I love this EP. It evokes nostalgia and that early, eerie BM feeling. Back when we didn't know who the artists were and their faces and identifies were as obscure as the music they created. A time of rebelling against "groovy" death metal, with droning blast beats that put you in a cold trance, meditative like state.
I know Im asking randomly but does any of you know a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb lost the login password. I love any tips you can offer me.
Just say black metal, that's all, not necessary always to say the dumb and foolish comment "old school", absolutely ridiculous, that's why the people from 80's and 90's despise the generation of idiots.
One thing that really sets early Enslaved, Burzum and Darkthrone apart is the repetitiveness and simplicity that runs through all the tracks. There is just something about how these bands, in particular on the early records, keep pounding the same riff into your ears over and over. No need to sprinkle in some variation or relief. This gives the music a sense of confidence and relentlessness, and the monotony makes it eerie and outerwordly. Hordanes Land is as pure black metal as it gets. I remember hearing this for the first time being 13 around 1993, and it changed my perception of music and what was possible within art forever. I am actually from the same city as Enslaved, and even used to rehearse in their studio when I was in a band myself back in the days.
Still my favorite Enslaved release. After so many years it stands out as one of the best pieces of black metal ever recorded. And it's not that the new Enslaved albums are bad - they are amazing. But this was a straight forward black metal, even though a little bit complex and I love it for what it is.
Yeap, their best recording. Harsh but "enjoyable". Don't get me wrong, "Eld" and "Blodhemn" are great albums too, but if I had to choose the best Enslaved record that would be this one.
Hell yeah! Brings me back to high school in MI in the mid 90's. This along with old school Emperor,Burzum, Graveland, "Live in Leipzig" era Mayhem and a few others I probably forgot will always be real black metal.
People can bitch all day if they want that Enslaved are no longer Black Metal. BUT you cannot say they suck, or are a bad band! They are some of, if not the best, musicians in the Extreme Metal world today, and that includes Emperor, to whom everyone thinks are the best musicians ever.
it always sounded like Trym was playing 1000x faster than the rest and I wouldn't be surprised if that's why he jumped over to Emperor. still, I love early Enslaved.
I had this on casette back in 93' I was at a Festival in NY C at a club that gave these away the split with Emperor. Still have it and it's a little worn down from playing it all the time. Even though I am from NY U S. I was heavily into Norwegian Black Metal from "1992" the first album I bought that year was Darkthrone then Immortal.
Non Believer yes I thought to myself I should make a band like this cause I had the voice and played Guitar like Tom G. Fisher who I idolized as a great riff player for Black Metal slow and Evil but they the rest of them thought this music was a joke so I told them to fuck off. Poser's wanted to sound like Type O Negative bloody kisses style.
Also my first contact with scandiblackmetal back in 1994(?). This enlighten for me the path leading out from early 90's metal miscellaneous thrash/death/doom/heavy/old black. The furiosity, mysticity, evilness, majesty, speed and whateverblackelse turns me on a endless path of B L A C K M E T A L.
Y yo lo escuché de "bonus track" en una grabación pirata (en cassette) de Satyricon Dark Medieval Times y nunca supe que era Enslaved sino hasta después de muchos años en UA-cam.
Like most black metal bands, Enslaved has a hard to read logo. "So you got a black metal battle jacket huh?" *study's jacket* "So your umm into..uhhhh.....errrm.....that one band...yea....that one band..." *The guy with the black metal battle jacket smiles and says* "Yea...that one band...heh"
Leave it be, for later generations.. Mail from Norway to Sweden was pretty fast back then(aside from dsp) so I got it early before the split with Emperor.

Everyone says every true black metal album is the best they've heard...And no one is wrong.
its actually insane how much talent was coming from a couple of norwegian kids during the 2nd wave. incredibly difficult to pick any favorites

I feel you... Its the same making the music, a kind of trance..
30 minutes of the best music that can be found in Metal.
This right here is what I heard in 1994 and awakened the dreadful black flame. I have never been the same since! This is Black Metal!
Battle ( metal ) = Panzer división Marduk, In battle Rage of the North men , Enthroned Armoured bestial hell... Enslaved Is pagan/ NBM...

I love it so much I ended up buying the original release on cassette from Candlelight records!
That's the one I originally heard when I was about 16. It made an impact that will be heard for centuries. Nice dudes too.
the reh is awesome too. love promo 94 as well. all after eld is crap
Yeap, their best recording. Harsh but "enjoyable". Don't get me wrong, "Eld" and "Blodhemn" are great albums too, but if I had to choose the best Enslaved record that would be this one.
Yeah, this and Vikingligr Veldi! :)
i always like to go to the comments section to like my fellow metal heads comments
Not quite the production of "Vikinglr Veldr"...but. such an awesome split with Emperor....!
Black metal masterpiece
Darkthrone, Burzum, Immortal, Enslaved
Emperor
Still one of the greatest BM releases of all time
this band is so unbelievably consistent, how can everything they do be amazing?
Hell yeah! Brings me back to high school in MI in the mid 90's. This along with old school Emperor,Burzum, Graveland, "Live in Leipzig" era Mayhem and a few others I probably forgot will always be real black metal.
I still have this EP on cassette. :D
The Speed of Slaget i Skogen Bortenfor is just insane.I never get tired of this Song
Wow, at last i have heard this record 30 Years ago. What a Materpiece!!!

Great music of the better times. Many shit nowadays.

This Frost and there first full length Ablum are untouchable. Masterpieces! Any who can't Appreciate these should be destroyed.
Their sound effects are pretty nice.
I think Enslaved are the real masters of Norwegian (black) metal. Only great albums, passion, creativity, and always true to the core. HAIL Enslaved.
Love the old days this is amazing ! No internet pure feelings within the black metal sense! In the early days
i still have this split - kept for all eternity in my treasure box
+apfelbrot2 hey i know emperor isnt good anymore but show some respect
my copy died the day I made friends with a tree when I plowed my truck into the woods.
excellent plan, poor execution?
"Hordanes Land" was a split? Ho-hum, didn't know that ...
TheKoderius same here, still have the fucking Emperor split cassette I got all those years ago, I was blown away by Black Metal!
This was the second black metal band I listened to as a teenager. The first was Emperor.
I need this- its utterly brilliant. Total work of art.
This EP together with the Emperor split EP are my two favorites releases in metal ever.
