  • In this video I removed my stock suspension and tires & installed 3.0 ICON remote reservoir coilovers with internal bump stops, billet aluminum upper control arm with Delta Joint, and new 37" BFG KM3's. I completed a body mount chop and a pinch weld modification. I unexpectedly had to remove and repair the axel and CV boot along the way. The new look and ride is unbelievable. Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.

    I have OME dakar leaf springs with firestone airbags along with daystar cradles to prevent sag. Look into the daystar cradles if you're deciding to keep your airbags. It'll prevent the bags from ripping when you're flexed out since its not attached. Love the setup!

      I have an 08 Tundra, firestone air bags in the rear, replaced the leaf springs with new leaf springs from KC Spring that gave me an extra 600lbs (estimate from the spring folks) of carrying power. I believe the spring pack has an extra leaf in it. The springs gave me an extra 3/4" of height in addition to stock and I put the adjustable Bilstein shocks up front ... I have a TRD sway bar in the rear. I still have the factory rake which I like. The upside, very limited body roll to the point where the nanny controls complain once and a while taking an exit too fast (must have a g-force meter) ..down side, it's a little stiff like a 3/4 ton truck but hauling is a breeze and I like the extra lift. I have 220k miles on the truck, it's in great shape, thought of converting it into an overland truck for fun with 35's or 37's.

    Such an awesome build you have, such a badass tundra. Running the same icon kit on my truck. I got the 3.0s upfront with the billet ucas. Out back im running thr rxt leaf pack set to option 1 and the rxt 2.5 resi shocks. They aren't the baller omega shocks since mine only offer compression adjustment. I'm also running firestone air bags with daystar cradles and trd sway bar. I have a bed cap with about 100 pounds of gear I keep in my truck. I'm also running 35s with some second gen tundra rock warrior wheels. Definitely a whole lot lighter than your rig but the icon shocks are awesome. Biggest thing I've noticed for me at least is the icons ride rougher than stock around town but they cruise amazing at highway speeds and big hits. Makes sense with the digressive valving icon uses.

    • @prospectoverland
      @prospectoverland  Рік тому

      Thank you! And thanks for the info about what you are running in the back. I’ve heard that digressive valve term but need to research what its about. I’m not to savvy with shock stuff like rebound/compression/valving etc. my big thing with the fronts were that the 3.0 came with internal bumps. And I made the jump to the omegas for the rear hoping the extra adjustment would help me manage the weight of my truck better the ones that aren’t as adjustable. But idk 🤷‍♂️ ha. We will see.

    • @jasonk2787
      @jasonk2787 Рік тому

      @@prospectoverland Basically the way digressive valving works is that the shocks are stiffer at lower speeds and gets smoother as piston speed builds up. Obviously the shock can only take so much speed then it reaches its limit. Progressive shocks like king/ fox etc are softer at slower speeds and will get stiffer as speed increases. There's soo much that goes into it all. You should be able to fine tune the rear setup as you out more miles on it and do some off-roading. Around town my rears are set to 4. I find that at the softer settings the rear end felt too loose. you might want to start with everything cranked to setting 5 all around. Im going on now almost 2 years with my icons. I'm thinking probably next year ill get them rebuilt as ive put close to 25k on the suspension already with towing and general driving.

    quality time and work done to it. Keep it coming!

    • @prospectoverland
      @prospectoverland  9 місяців тому

      It’s hard to say the exact amount of lift. It doesn’t have a actual lift kit. The icon shocks have the coils cranked down to the max amount which I think is about 2-3” of lift. But my truck is very heavy so 2” of lift on mine might be 3 or 4” on someone else’s rig.
      Sway bar had to come off because it was hitting the bottom of the shock where it mounts to the A arms.
      Still rides great without the sway bar. But tires hitting the sway bar was not the issue. +25 offset rims are the ticket for not rubbing a lot.

If I could do it again I would have went with deaver’s u748 pack. You should definitely get the day star cradles if you wanna keep your bags. Thanks for the leaf pack info. I would like to get rid of the bags completely…. so a custom leaf pack would be awesome. @@prospectoverland Gotcha! You may be able to use stock shackles but I’d upgrade to some that use poly bushings for best performance. You could look into Coachbuilder, he offers 3 different lift heights. Your new leaf springs will probably only be 2-2.5” of lift. So consider how much rake you want, if any. The real determining factor is how much lift those Icon 3.0s support. Also I’m curious about the big brake kit, looks like most require a 20” wheel :/ but sdhq makes one that you can use an 18” wheel? Are you running 18s currently?

      The brake kit….yes I have 18” and I’m going with power brake. Which are the ones that SDHQ sells. I’m just not getting from them…no particular reason. Just a different vendor. I can’t wait to get them on!

      That would probably be just fine, as long as the new leaf pack is compatible with stock shackles. Stock shackles use the factory bushings though which have to pressed out/in. Hey man I’m running almost the same setup minus the gfc on the back.. I can’t seem to get my truck level. It sags so much to the driver side. I’m already maxed out with shim spacers on the bumpstop as directed by icon. Did you have any issue? I’m thinking about just ditching the 600lb springs and sacrificing the travel to get a little more ground clearance.
    Also, for the rear when I have heavy loads I have sumo springs and even at high speeds over nasty ruts they do well with working with the suspension.

    I have the similar setup with ICON tubular UCA's, with leaf spring kit and fully adjustable dampening rears as well (I think essentially stage 9?). The shop that installed mine did not cut the bump stop, nor did they move the boot on the steering rods. I wonder how critical this is and if I should be worried? Also, I didn't hear you mention any diff drop kit or bump stop spacers (maybe I just didn't hear). I had Coachbuilder bump stops installed (with his outer tie rod) and the Icon diff drop kit. Your BMC is amazing. Wish I was close I'd pay you to do mine. 😁
    Also any issues with clearance on the way you did the pinch weld mod? How do you like the KM3's? I was thinking of Toyo AT3's but I think overall diameter is larger than your KM3's.

    • @prospectoverland
      @prospectoverland  Рік тому

      Hey Jake, I guess ill never know if trimming the edge of the bump was totally necessary. I've heard it specifically is needed for the 3.0 system due to the bigger coil size. The 2.5 shock has room to clear. Reference moving the boot, again I guess I won't totally know but the reasoning was that by sliding the small end of the boot closer to the center of the truck it allowed some extra slack in the boot to accommodate extra articulation. I've heard that the boot could tear from being stretched to the max when the suspension drops out. The reasoning makes sense in my head so I just did it.
      My truck already had a diff drop from a previous lift which I guess I failed to mention. And I did install Icons thick washer/bump stop spacer to limit the up travel and prevent any coil binding. I think I did this after the video once I spoke with them some more.
      No clearance issues on the front after my mod's seen in the video. Thanks, I am pretty happy with the BMC. Turned out pretty clean once all painted up. Check my most recent video, did some flexing tests. The rear tires rub some plastic on full tuck. Not a big deal. And yes the KM3's are amazing but I think are 36.5" when truly measured.
      I think i covered all the questions. let me know if i missed something.
