Gimnazija Kranj Great Christmas Concert 2015 - Slavic Night. Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra performed Antonín Dvořák Slavonic Dances op.46 and op.72:

Concert was sold out in record time of two days (1500 seats, Gallus Hall, Cankarjev dom, Slovenia). Our kids played stunningly and set a new standard of playing and performing. This is first real film based Slavonic Dances. Veliki simfonični orkester Gimnazije Kranj je vrhunsko izvedel delo Antonína Dvořáka: Slovanski plesi. Mladi glasbeniki so izvedli to skladbo v Gallusovi dvorani Cankarjevega doma v razprodani dvorani. S to interpretacijo se je orkester gotovo zapisal v zgodovino najboljših izvedb tega dela vseh časov. My paternal grandpa was from Warsaw but came to America in the late 1800’s. My mother played the Violin. One of my daughters plays the violin and her son (in Medical School) plays the bass.

Hoje, com 75 anos, lembro dos meus 15-16 anos quando integrei uma banda sinfônica em minha cidade aqui no Brasil como pistonista, mas nunca chegamos perto do nível dessa garotada eslovena.

Wonderful, devoted young faces and a really beutiful romantic music brought together by this wondeful maestro. I just love it. @Gyumri Barta. I completely understand! Something about this conductor and these young people. I look at them and they probably don’t realize how richly they are living. I wouldn’t have either at that age! But they are just so talented, there’s just a certain chemistry here. ❤️

One of my all-time favorites of Dvorak!
Dvorak was a master of composition and orchestration. The Slavonic Dances are an excellent introduction to his talent. One of the first composers to really grab my attention more than a a few decades ago, and it was from this batch of dances, instantly and irresistibly appealing.

@ 11.34 when they come into that little bit right there it`s sublime .. I recall when I was fairly new to classical music in the late 70`s hearing on my local station the announcer saying something to the effect that all music fans had a "favorite composer" but nonetheless everyone loved Dvorak .. 45 years later it still rings true in my head.....Thanks for sharing this !

Dvorak wrote these at the suggestion of his publisher, who wanted to get one over on Brahms following the success of that composer's 'Hungarian Dances'. Dvorak surely rose to the occasion!

I can see why this "student" performance is on par with all professional orchestras' I have ever heard. They sensed your love for them and they reciprocated it in terms of their hard practice and passionate performance! I did hear the "thickness" in the orchestra before. Now I know it was for a noble cause! You are a good man and an able conductor. Nonetheless, it is always cool to see saxophones in an orchestra!
I love this music! So full of the joy of living! So much beauty and melody! Music should be enjoyed! Then by all means ask why and study why! But first enjoy it!
