In Norway, we pile adults and kids into a truck with sleds, then get driven to the top of a huge hill, the driver drives back down and makes sure no cars head up and we sled down, it takes about 5-8 minutes. Then up again and for as long as we are not too wet or cold, we keep going on slide mattresses and sleds. The most fun ever! Thank you to our driver! ❤
So true. My mother took my sister and me (from the UK) on a skiing holiday in Austria, actually very close to where Philipe and Anna were, on the border of Austria and Italy, when I was seven years old in 1966. I’ve never forgotten it and it started a love of travel which eventually directed me into a career that took me around the world. I now live in south eastern France where I can see the Alpes from my kitchen window and I still often think about that first holiday up there in the snow.
@@Andrew-sy1lx how lovely, my parents took my sister & I all over Europe in the 70’s we were both very spoilt & didn’t realise at the time how lucky we were but we do now & have fabulous memories ❤️
@@paulakershaw5452We were very lucky. Foreign travel wasn’t so common back in those days. Another 60s holiday was a driving holiday through France and Spain which gave me my love of France.
Same here. My parents would go home once per year and sometimes two traveling from Indonesia, through Europe, and back to the mid-west USA. It was easier to go across the Pacific, but less eventful (stopping in Japan one time & Hawaii) ... but going through Europe even at 12 and 13 & 14 I realized I was so lucky. Absolutely wonderful!!! Such a multitude of culture. Trilingual girls. Sunshine on the snow. Vegan spare-ribs. I adore Philipp's humour. I have been living in Germany for over 40 years now and I find the humour (Schwiezer, Austrian, Süd Tirol, German) so good. So dry and understated. 🙂 A fabulous video. Made me laugh a lot. Thank you.
So special to be with family in a location where their Papa grew up, with his Oma, and the cousins. What a loving family you all are. Not forgetting the the delightful Ziggy as well. :::woof::: ❤️
We used to drive, to see my grandfather, from Wyoming to New Jersey. One year my father pulled the car over and told me if I sang "Yellow Submarine" one more time, I could get out and walk. Lol! It is a beautiful memory for everyone!
As half French and half German myself, I just understand the phrase "we can Eislaufen" too well :D My siblings and I only speak a mix of both languages, sometimes throwing some English in there because it just helps putting our point across! Teaching your daughters three languages is the best thing you can do! It has helped me so much in my life and makes learning new languages easier as our brains are just wired differently ;) I now live in Munich and the bavarian/austrian/south tirol cuisine is just one of the best after a good hike!!! Loved seeing you having fun in the snow and creating core family memories
Having lived my entire life in a Rocky Mountain State, I understand your longing to see your Mountains. I love our mountains, I call them Mothers arms.
That is how I feel about the Colorado Rockies too ...like busting into a John Denver song! We have land near Platoro, Co. I Wish I could get there in winter but it gets snowed in & you have to be prepared to stay all winter... and all the survival knowledge that entails!

Oh Philip and Ana, I love your vlogs but this one made my heart jump! I had the chance to worked in Val Gardena in 2000. I lived in Ortisei and work as a tour guide in the different ski- destinations as Wolkenstein, up to Merano, Reschen-Pass, Schnallstal, Sulden. Memories like this stick with you all your life! 62 years ago my dad made me a sledge, necessary because we had one of the worst winters of the 20th century, the winter of 62/63. Our house was snowed up and the drifts were level with my bedroom window. So dad spent all day on my sledge, he finished and said " come on" . He jumped over the wall into the field, and I followed him, but, because my legs were smaller I didn't jump as far and landed in the centre of a roll of barbed wire. I was covered in cuts, needless to say I didn't go sledging that night.😂
Their vacation was indeed magical. Also those Alps have history and architecture and traditions to match! We have land in Colorado that sadly we hardly ever get to anymore. It's an old abandoned mining claim and the cabin has long ago fallen to pieces ...but the memories of Platoro Reservoir and Lily Pond are still with me. We could only go in the summer, since the state doesn't plow up that far off the beaten track. But we went skiing at other places near Colorado Springs where my dad was born. His high school had skiing as a winter sport!
@@kindlydude food is soo good there too, most cabins on the slopes will have proper delicious meals often times local game/berries or herbs and regional specialties 😋

Lily definitely takes after her father 😂 And I agree Phillipp, the rainy winters are spirit breaking. Sincerely, someone from the Netherlands who cannot wait to go to the Alps next month.
How lovely - sledding is so much fun!! Living in Arizona we get the best of both worlds - sunshine and desert along with snowy 4200 meter mountains in the winter. I appreciate that so much
Your children may not have enjoyed climbing uphill this time, but I can guarantee that one day, they'll be back, and they''ll love ever second, just like you did. Happy New Year!

I felt so happy for you all watching this. 🥰 Happy New Year & all the best for 2024!
My heart stopped, when I read the name on the sign of the young man that died while picking Edelweiss. He had the same name as my father, Franz Obexer. My father was born in 1926, in Kastelruth. My extended family is from the Bolzano area. I however live on Vancouver Island Canada, and have visited Southern Tirol many times and walked in the footsteps of my fathers youth. It makes me very happy to watch, these videos, when you return to your homeland. I recognize so much of the area, and it makes me incrediblly homesick. Thanks for showing us this beautiful area.
So beautiful! My memories are of driving from Atlanta GA to South Fulton TN to be with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and sometimes we even got a little snow. The best days of my young life. The older I get, the more I treasure those days. One of our family sayings is “Making memories!” So happy for you all that you were able to have this special time in such an amazing place ❤
1:41 this reminded me of my mom saying her dad would sing in German when drunk. I remember ol’ Christmas tree story. I never got to meet my German grandfather. Born 2 decades after he passed away. My grandparents never taught us German or Portuguese, grandma was Portuguese. Thank you for sharing family traditions with us. Our traditions were lost when my grandparents “Americanized” themselves. Happy new years.
You can always join a German club where they teach the language and celebrate traditional holidays. That's what I do. My dad spoke Spanish to me when I was a child even though it was a second language for him. We have a German/Dutch last name ... no one can decide. Our known ancestors came from Rotterdam from one branch of the family and from Ireland and France from other branches.... so I feel like I have a connection to all these places in Europe.
Twice in the 1970's I was able to go w/ my Ambassador Fellowship singles group of 4th Presbyterian Chruch in Bethesda, MD on a ski trip to Austria. We went to Mittersill and stayed at Schloss Mittersill where we skied Pass Thurn (really good) and Kitzbuhel (where the people went to be seen). We even rented the Schloss van to travel to ski Kaprun glacier. What fun. Then we would go to St. Anton in the Arlbergs. Those were trips of a lifetime, although Colorado (where a brother lived) had sometimes better snow as it was colder.
I grew up in snow country like this in the north highlands of Scotland, it was amazing. All my winter memories were in the dark given the few hours of daylight we had each winter. In the summer we had almost no dark nights either. We used to dig trenches from one house to the other and mum would climb out of the window to shovel snow from the door ! We had no central heating, not much insulation, simple army blankets with a hot water bootle and one small fire where mum warmed up our clothes before we went off to school, after a big plate of porridge of course ! We sledded gloveless well into the night, it was a great childhood, I pity young kids today. Wonderful memories you are making ! xoxoxo
There's nothing like snow glistening in the sun like a field of diamonds! It's one of my favorite winter treasures living in Minnesota, USA. Have you guys ever gone tubing down a snow covered hill? Instead of a toboggan with blades, you sit on a huge tire innertube. My grandkids love it! Some Ski Resorts offer tubing and skiing choices in the US.
Holy moly! Driving on snowy, icy, winding roads in the Alps. I guarantee you that from here, at the first sign of ice on the roads, this city shuts down. Sledding looks like a lot of fun. Enjoy your vacation and safe travels to all!
Thank you for sharing. What wonderful memories the girls will have of your trip. Such beautiful scenery. I so want to go there and experience it for myself.
Wow what beautiful scenery! Would love to go there! And what an adventure for you and the girls!! And sledding down the hill looked like such an amazing experience!! Love you guys!!!❤

I almost cried when your family sang “O Tannenbaum,” because my grandfather used to sing that to us when we’d get together to sing (English) Christmas carols as a family.
This is such a wonderful video. Beautiful scenery, and every thing on video . A treasure in the making , for every one to look back on. Fun family times. ❤🙂

I would bet that you have so many great memories of this place Phillip. Nice that the girls will have memories too and of course, Ziggy! (from Sandi)
Beautiful winter landscape shots! Just love your getaways with the girls, their grandmother, and Ziggy (what a lucky dog!). In the Dutch/German tradition, we too celebrate Christmas on the eve! Great family! Love their candle-lit tree! Really, it all looks so wonderful! So nice that you spent the extended day in the winter mountain park!🤩❤🙏🏼
I LOVE Christmas trees like that were the branches are spaced out so beautifully. I enjoy being able to put ornaments on the interior of the tree. It looks so festive.
Very very beautiful, so glad you all got a chance to play in the snow during winter holiday! I, however, grew up on the eastern edge of thr Great Plains in the U.S., just where it goes from perfectly flat to quite hilly. Blizzards, snowdrifts up to your eyeballs, endless shoveling while your hands & toes froze, icy hills, icy winds. It was nice if you were warm & cozy inside, but going outside was often not so much fun. Where I live now, it snows only once or twice in the winter & generally melts w/in one or 2 days, except for the one winter where we had 18 inches & then 12 more in a day or 2 (roads not plowed b.c there are few snowplows) & my first winter here when there was a massive ice storm that was incredibly magical---partly b/c I'm retired & did not have to go out, though the loss of electricity for 2-1/2 days got a bit chilly! In any case, mant thanks for letting me enjoy the snow with your family from the comfort of my nice, warm living room!
That is almost my exact same experience having moved from Minnesota to Oklahoma! I LOVED their picture-perfect postcard snowy-Alpine Holiday from the comfort of my armchair!!
I loved this vlog! Such happy memories for your 2 daughters and their grandmother. When the scenery changed from green to white it became the wonderland I see every winter (minus the mountains) outside my home's windows. Being an El Nino year, there wasn't a whole lot of snow up until New Year's day - only a few inches and you could still see the pale green of the tips of yard grass above it. It only took 2 days afterwards to get a heavy snowfall that turned the landscape to one of winter wonderland. Now, at dusk, when the street lights turn on, there are tiny, sharp little diamonds winking up at you when you walk across the expanses of snow-lined sidewalks and roads. If it could have the temperature to twin with it, it would be ideal but we are in a deep freeze: -31C with windchill of -49C! One guarantee: it will eventually become Spring sometime in mid-April.....sigh....

What a magical vlog. Warms my heart to know that you value the memories over physical gifts. ❤
What a stunningly beautiful video. Forever family memories.
I almost cried when your family sang “O Tannenbaum,” because my grandfather used to sing that to us when we’d get together to sing (English) Christmas carols as a family.
What a special gift you gave the girls - precious memories! ❤ Thank you for sharing this joyful trip.

Oh, tobogganing! I miss those days! There were 7 children in my family, so my father bought a toboggan which sat 8. 😅 such fun!!

It's so beautiful there and I love that you all got to go and take some time with the girls. Have a wonderful week and thank you for sharing your video. I would bet that you have so many great memories of this place Phillip. Nice that the girls will have memories too and of course, Ziggy! (from Sandi)
H iAnna & Phillip, Nothing better than spending the holidays with family. And finally some snow! Mark & Scott
Love this style video! I felt like I was coming along on your family vacation☺️
I love seeing the alps taking my husband to Switzerland he’s only ever seen them on tv
I grew up loving this
Thank you for sharing your beautiful winter wonderland, I loved it! ❤
Wonderful trip that's what I call making memories ❤ beautiful litterly postcard views ❤ all the best ❤😊
What a beautiful video, thank you! Where I live we had our first snow of winter yesterday, and more is coming tomorrow! I love the snow ❄️
I miss this place. It is as stunning now as it was 50 years ago when we visited from Germany. I was raised in Schwabia Stadt.
Absolutely lovely! I love snow, and what better place than the Alps! So glad you took us along!
