I think Wallace was outright rude and Callas was wrong to tolerate these questions.
Wallace taught his son to be stupid also; he was HONOURED to have been in the presence of this gifted, wonderful woman; Diva Callas!
I used to feel the same!-- until I heard Callas. Although I had been exposed to "classical" music all my life, especially Vivaldi, Bach & Beethoven, I was a rock 'n' roller through and through. And not to be patronizing but, there's so much out there you could be missing out on & you don't know it just yet… Anyway, you've started in the right place to start with Callas. I hope you'll make time to give opera a fair chance. I was glad I did. :-)
Mike Wallace was impertinent at best!
I can't believe the questions he's asking her!! The fact that she didn't get up and walk out blows my mind. He asked about her money in such a tacky pushy and rude way. An awful man.
Mike Wallace was a very well oiled trash machine which the public liked. CBS NEWS, and 60 minutes was a voyeuristic look at people's personal lives and devoid of any kind of respect. They were a ratings hit every Sunday night and clearly why Maria agreed. CBS, a cheap station, should have paid CALLAS everything she asked for and more, but they shunned geniuses and anything closely resembling it, even though the greatest artists always gave in to them. Wallace here was worthy of a great bitch slap by CALLAS, but she did get the news about her tour and like. Maria CALLAS was and still is the greatest Diva in history and that is the truth and the truth is the truth whether you want to believe it or not it's still the truth. She unfortunately had bad taste in men and Onassis who was a pig was her worst poison of embarrassment. Thank God there is a Maria CALLAS, she made Opera better.
This fuller interview gives a better impression of both Maria and Wallace. The 2-part color interview floating around on UA-cam omitted so many additional responses! Wallace is still prick-like in both versions of the interview but a tad less so here.

Alot of ppl like to trash Wallace for this interview, i think he did quite well. He didnt yield to La Callas and asked her the tough questions, and she met him punch for punch. Very good interview.
Callas does know how to answer abbrassive question look at that " it would be shameful for the bottle you know"
Okay, there is a style of music I hate worse than RAP/HIP-HOP. And that's OPERA. Liking opera, is like liking liver or brussels sprouts: it may be good for you, but it's awful to the taste. No disrespect intended to opera fans, performers, promoters, etc. I'm just expressing my opinion. :)

Opera is not pop its a combination of acting and singing and also its more dark than death metal specially when callas sings it also those music that probably you listen wont exist without opera its the golden age of music

It's definitely not for everyone. Maria Callas is brilliant, an artist, regal, determined, and ahead of her time by centuries.
And you are who?? Hahahaha !! Opera needs ears, heart and brain! So maybe you can’t stand opera for certain reasons!
