    for those who don't know... it's a B-bender Tele... upper strap mount moves a lever to bend the B string - watch Page pushing against the strap to bend notes - the original Page version is on the Death Wish 2 OST and you can hear the edits to piece it together - this is a quite remarkable performance

    Jimmy Page is a maestro. All contemporary music was grounded out of classical music. So much of the early metal was sheer compositional genius. Everything Page has composed is original new sound that others followed. Page's Bolero now called Beck's Bolero can be heard on a Yardbirds cd when it was first played. Both musicians were in the Yardbirds. Not certain how or why Back called it his own. It is amazing either way. Nothing is comparable to these creations. So thankful to have them. Hope everyone can appreciate the mastery of all this. Hurray for Page being an amazing survivor. Unimaginable not to have him.

    Thank you so much for uploading this. I found on UA-cam videos of three different nights where he plays this song in that same event. Two of them are painful to watch. Jimmy is obviously far from his best shape. His eyes seem off. His bends are so inaccurate they hurt the ears. He fails to make a lot of notes sound properly. And then there is this version. It’s like a miracle. All the things that fall apart in the other two seems to come together - listen to the emotion in those bends, the subtlety in the way he changes from playing hard to softly, the hammers and pull offs that make the end of his sentences so palpable. Even the way he moves is deliciously quirky. It’s one of my favourite songs he ever played, it moves me in a special way, perhaps also because it shows that genius can survive and even feed on the darkest of times. To me, this is Jimmy’s swan song.

    When Led Zeppelin's debut album came out during my junior year at Kent State, we all listened to Dazed and Confused and wished we could be one of the cool kids, but they were in the dorm where all the 'heads' lived. Now, Jimmy Page unites the heads and the classical music lovers with this glorious piece. I'd be hard pressed to choose between Chopin's Prelude no. 4 and Page's version - it just rips my heart from my chest and then returns it safe and sound when finished.

I thank my father for raising me on this! It is one of the few good things, all of which I can count on one hand he ever did for me! Great music has no age limit, but I cannot help to agree that if more knew of his brilliance today the world may be far better! Then again, we might have a lot of youngsters try and distort, destroy and mangle it beyond comprehension into some trashy club mix! So maybe it is better to keep it and other such gems hidden!?!

    This was his opening part for the ARMS concert in England
    then they tore into a bunch of awesome songs Jeff Beck came out
    as someone said ..it was like everyone on the continent was there

    This is so freaking magnificent. Anyone who spends a lot of time listening to Jeff Beck should do themselves a favor and listen to Jimmy's versatility before assuming Jeff is the only player of that generation with virtuoso chops.

    • @marktulk4225

      Very OBVIOUS this little trick was inspired by Jeff Beck, who began to put most of his creativity into instrumentals, with damn- near IDENTICAL effects, several years previous.

    • @jrusovich
      @jrusovich 10 місяців тому +1

      @@marktulk4225 Jimmy himself tributes Jeff's virtuosity in interview after interview. My comment was geared more toward Jimmy's extraordinary compositional skill than his ability to "out play" Beck, which is pretty much impossible.

    I AM a Malmsteen fan, but wow! It was nice to listen to this to something 'Neo-classical' without a huge 16th note run every other bar! In fact I am really happy to hear Chopin played on an electric guitar and even more pleased it wasn't tacky and ridiculous like a lot of stuff, that's similar is! Time to listen to this another hundred times!

    Two things: 1) Jimmy’s tone here is so unique and FASCINATING. Not just another regular old guitar tone. 2) His playing here is VERY reminiscent of his good friend Jeff Beck - especially Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers, which came out in 1975. Can’t help but think there is some emulation going on there…

    Jimmy Page released NEW pitching-techniques and note-clusters which had never been; Many musicians were held to a standard-for-guitar. He captured the imagination of MUSIC(What could a guitar do).Before there was music, Sound was just sound till someone in time, gave the sound a value that made a sound desirable.Music is the study of how to make those desired sounds;It allowed for the development of new instruments;Jimmy made a NEWsound happen.Well studied people only hope to make such a sound.

    Not sure if anyone mentioned, that's his B-bender guitar. The top strap button pivots and pulls on the b string. You can see him use it right at @1:08 with a little pull on the strap. The back of the guitar is routed out and there is quite the contraption screwed in.
