    Green and yellow, just as green and white, red and white, red and yellow, are all excellent signal colour schemes that really stick out :)

      Back in the 80's I would also occasionally see bright fluorescent yellow fire trucks. I hated them back then but I was just a kid. I always loved the classic red although these days I appreciate the high visibility schemes and what they were trying to accomplish.

    Nice model. I’ve painted a couple of MKT units for my dad. He loved them.

    About 20some years ago I bought air brush gear for art experiments. The result was all of the kitchen cabinets covered in a brownish film of paint fumes that had drifted through the place and settled for one heck of a mess! So a year ago l looked for simple spray cans for priming with a fast pffft on the porch, and brushable paints for details.
    In my paint experiments over the last year, I found that Seymour "Fresh N Quick" Flat Black (11-10) spray paint makes a very good primer! It lays down thin and even, covers great, does not peel itself when applying a second layer (BOOOOHH to Rust Oleum!) and throws NO bubbles. Two layers are the most you need to cover the factory paint! (Bubbles, uneven coasts, and running puddles are real problems with Rust Oleum!) You can then either do a lazy job just using the black body with Penn Central decals, or hand paint for any other using Vallejo model paints!
    Vallejo looks like a small amount of paint, but it stretches a long way with amazing coverage, and thins with water! A set of 16 basic colours sells for about 30 bucks, and is worth every penny. It is really formulated to brush on like magic, with brush strokes getting stretched flat while drying, and when dry, looks smooth like a spray coat! Forget about other paints for small scale models, this experience came through a whole year of just putzing around with paints on old tosser shells (many used, and many eventually dissolved with aggressive paints or solvents), two of which finally became my Great Northern E7A pair in the simplified Empire Builder scheme :)
    ONE exception is for anything with a red coat, like Canadian Pacific. Use the Seymour flat black as a prime coat, then apply a thin coat of "PintyPlus" traffic red spray paint. It is water based, easily strips with iso-propanol alcohol, but is permanent! With a light coat in that black primer, it shows fine detail and the locos have a wee bit gritty, dirty look, so "aged" without all the stupid ugly stuff people do, and the tint is a just a wee bit to orange, so perfect for a slightly used and faded look. Add a second coat, you get a glowing traffic red new factory look. Add decals and stripes, voila!
    BTW: DO NOT waste money on clear coat sprays, gloss or flat, because we are back to puddling! A brushable clear coat, like Tamiya, does better! ONE spray clear coat I found that works well is Mod Podge Matte.
    I bought the basic Vallejo set and Seymour spray can at Amazon, and the Mod Podge at Walmart.

      I have used the good ol Testors "Dullcote" aerosol cans a BUNCH over the years and love it. Wish I could still get my hands on it. But these days I don't do much, if any, painting. I did pick up a cheapy spray booth off of Amazon. I need to set it up and actually try it out.

      @@Trains-With-Shane - too bad the old Revell and Testors paints are not sold anywhere anymore. GONE! The little glasses sold in hobby stores everywhere were TINY, but also cheap, and I never needed much to cover an area. They were about the right size for one or maybe three Airfix or Revell model kits (needed more for full base coats, less of course for details), so given a low price of 99 cents or less on a sale, they were OK, and the store shelf had dozens of shades!

    That MKT does not have Dynamic Brakes

      @Trains-With-Shane  8 місяців тому

      I don't recall saying that it did. Although it was late when I recorded so I may have, although I shouldn't have because it obviously doesn't have them. Neither did the prototype, but honestly the prototype was also a GP7 not a GP9, lol. 🤣 Oh well it's my railroad. Historically, most of MKT's GP's didn't have dynamic brakes. Even the GP38's and GP40's.

    Have you considered a TCS CN or CN-GP DCC decoders? One of them should be compatible with your old style split frame Atlas locomotive. I have installed many, and then work very well. Just an idea.

      If you look around on my channel I have a "cheap" decoder install in a similar GP7/9 in KCS colors using an old MRC sound decoder. I'd probably use those if switching these to DCC/Sound. I tend to prefer sound over control only. But... not opposed to doing control only because it's far less noticeable when it hiccups, lol.

      New video will be dropping this coming monday. Money has been tight and spending $400/month on locomotives just to do videos isn't sustainable so had to scale it down.
