  • I made this video for anyone looking to get the best bang for their buck when starting out in traditional archery. If you're looking for your first recurve bow I highly recommend the Fleetwood ILF riser and a set of DAS bamboo core limbs. I show the prices, some up close pictures, and take some shots with this bow.
    please subscribe to my channel if you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching

    This was an excellent practical approach to a solid ILF bow. I have shot the DAS bamboo cores and they are a super value. Personally I think ILF's are great bows but for a first bow, I still think a bolt down may have some advantages in simplicity and a slight edge in lower cost. That said this was a great video and certainly one way to skin a cat. Thanks for sharing.

    Great video yet again, crazy how your equipment is almost exactly the same as mine and how you feel about it. I have the Osk Ridge 19” hunter riser which looks exactly like this one which I bought in Spain for 95€, I match them with a pair of medium Cartel Fantom limbs giving me a 60” bow. I also find the grip slightly ‘fat’ but still comfortable. I used this very successfully as my main hunting bow until I got my black wolf. Both are set at 45lb at 29” draw and I love them both. I completely agree with you that this is an excellent bow for beginner recurve hunting or 3D! 🏆

    The Tbow is about 200 bucks riser and limbs ilf system also. You could get 50 limbs with the bow then order a set of 30 lbs to start with. You also have all your mounting holes just like a compound bow so quivers are cheaper and put a adjustable rest and side plate. All about 350 bucks

      @hooversoutdoors I prefer a bolt on quiver. But I have used strap on quivers before. I see that 3 Rivers Archery offers a 17" ILF wood riser with inserts for $269.00
      For the price difference I can buy a good strap on quiver which makes more sense.

    Thank you for the video! Really thinking about picking up an ILF system and this setup looks like a good place to start. Are you able to adjust the tiller with this setup? And if you are, did you have to mess with the tiller at all for shooting 3 under? Thanks again!

    Good little video. Especially for 3Rivers and TTT. I love my o5' Bowtech Diamond Liberty. Bought it on sale in o6". I have recently started getting into recurve and long bows. I have bought 2 black hunter bows this month. They shoot ok. I'm learning to sight in the arrow tip while drawn back. HOLDING it there is the problem. Compound lets me have 80% let off. Recurve... NOT so much.😂😐. I want better accuracy with my $100 black hunters. If I'm already at these bows ability... What would I go to next without going to $500 for a bow ? I don't see that your bow (looks very similar to the black hunter or all the $100 models out there) is that much better. It very well could be. You gave no indication that you compared them. Just got new arrows from my bowsmith and that helped a bunch but, not close enough for my desire past 20 yards. There is just something about shooting TRAD that has captured my interest. I want to get better with what I got and then buy something special in a few years. Keep shooting. I liked & subed to your channel. 👊✌

    • @hooversoutdoors
      @hooversoutdoors  2 роки тому

      If it was me, I would keep shooting the black hunter. There's no real NEED to upgrade usually, but it's so much fun to get a new bow! There are a LOT of older BEAR recurves on the market. Just be careful the limbs are in good shape before you buy. That's probably the route I would go if I wanted another bow and didn't want to get too expensive.

    • @donaldbailey8483
      @donaldbailey8483 2 роки тому

      @@hooversoutdoors No sir. I have not. I am not sure what to do with the results if I do. Think I may need more up front or a stronger bow. I wanted to ask you if there is a recurve or hybrid bow worth $300 ? The ones I have seen all match the $100 bows in performance.

    • @donaldbailey8483
      @donaldbailey8483 2 роки тому +1

      @@hooversoutdoors Didn't see this til after I asked my other question about a $300 bow. I would prefer to buy new. There is no real bow shops around with used recurves. The bear line up starts at $420 +. 🤷

    • @hooversoutdoors
      @hooversoutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      There's a lot to unpack here. From what I've read in your replies if you're looking for better accuracy (without seeing you shoot) I would first suggest making sure your arrows are tuned perfectly. That makes a HUGE difference in consistent arrow flight. Upgrading things like your string, nocks fitment, what rest you're using can also make small improvements. If I was in your shoes I wouldn't buy another bow. You have two black hunter longbows which are great! However, if you're looking to buy a bow the one in my video will allow you to tune a little more, upgrade limbs, and shoots great set up like it is. I don't have any experience with any other bow under 400$.

    I hit subscribe you owe me a nickel😉 All bows are at least 10 lbs heavier for me because I have a 32" draw. I shoot a PMA IRONWOOD Black Widow that I bought new 22 years ago. It's 52 lbs @ 32" draw. The only arrows I could find that are long enough and tough enough, are the black eagle deep impact 400 spine. Best arrows I've ever shot

    • @hooversoutdoors
      @hooversoutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      That's incredible, I see a ton of folks that hang on to their black widows for life. That's why I bought one! Glad you're here, I'm sure there's a lot everyone can learn from you.

      U have a nice setup. I just tuned some Black Eagle X-Impact's in a 400 spine for my ILF. Had to upgrade limbs that shot 50 lbs. cuz the bareshaft shot a little weak. But what 45 couldn't do 50 is giving me excellent arrow flight. But when I don't shoot enough I have a 40 lb. set of limbs that I practice with to build up my shooting form. Had to retire my 25 yr old custom Bighorn I used to shoot which was designed by Fred Asbell since it was a 63 lb bow.

      Hi there. It is a great bow generally. Just as he says the grip on the riser is ever so slightly fat so having larger hands would be better for this riser than if you had quite small hands. Then it would be tricker to hold and aim IMO. I have almost the exact same set up and really like this bow a lot!
