- Samick Sage or Black Hunter. Which to chose? It seems the questions is always should I choose the Samick Sage or Black Hunter Recurve for my first bow. It really depends on what you want to spend, what features you are looking for in a traditional bow, and what you are willing to sacrifice. Both are good bows with a few negatives. With a little research and testing you can find the right bow for your needs.

As a new archer I was really torn between the black hunter and the sage as a first bow, in the end, the quality control issues of the black hunter sealed the deal, and I bought myself a sage.
Obviously I can’t measure it against a black hunter, but I absolutely love the sage, it’s a great bow for me, I took your advice and resisted the urge to go heavy on draw weight in the name of masculinity, and went in at 30lb, which has really helped me nail down my form.

That's awesome that you opted to get the fundamentals in order first! The best thing about takedown bows is that you can always increase the weight as you get grow into it. I really enjoy my sage as well, and would be hard pressed to part with it. I also appreciate your feedback about my content. It's comments like yours that keep me going. These cheap samicks has also lots of quality issues. Limbs can be wrong weight than they should be, not even close and the riser is glued badly it can crack.

I don't know about the other one I'm not sure about the hunter but the Fleetwood Edge is solid reliable make an old jacket you put on a thousand times

That was actually a great, and informative review. I have wondered many times what people like yourself who have both bows thought about them in respect to one another. I may eventually get the Red Lingyun Black Hunter simply because I think it's a really good looking bow, but I am waiting for my new Lwano upgraded bow I ordered on Sept. 18th to come in ... it's 40 lbs at 28" and 62" in length.
And I agree with you that everyone in the youTube Archery community has been a great group of guys just having some fun sharing their experiences!

Hello from England Scott. I've recently found and subscribed to your channel and love it.
You post really good information and tips on shooting. I loved the one about releasing too quickly. I do that and am working on stopping it and taking a second or two to settle before releasing the arrow.
I liked your reviews of the Black Hunter too. I have the longbow version and although it is not necessarily the best bow in the world I would have to say that it probably the best value for money bow and anyone just starting out could do a hell of a lot worse. I find that it shoots just as well as a couple of more expensive bows that I own.

You have some very informative videos I myself have a Galaxy sage at 35 lb I love that bowl and I'm looking to get 45 lb limbs for hunting next year just started shooting here recently doing shoulder rehab
Hopefully the rehab goes well for you. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment! I would have a hard time parting with mine, it has been a good one for me. I've thought about changing my limbs out from time to time but I'm comfortable with it at 40. Where I live there are no weight restrictions, but it's always good to be sensible and ethical about it when hunting.

Thanks boss was good vid Fleetwood Edge in 55 lb and I absolutely love it I used to have a 60 lb version as well and it was absolutely wonderful now I have the one with the hand twist knobs instead of the bolts like your Samick sage and I really like it looking forward to more videos

It is!!! Replace the string in the near future. Brace height over 7,5 inches and with good arrows you ll have a great bow.
Nice brother well said. I might add a lot of folks are looking for a miracle bow for minimal money when they buy these and I just haven't seen that bow in all my years at traditional , both are good for the cost... but save your money a while longer if you really want that miracle bow. I always enjoy your content man.

Great video!! I have one of each and both are awesome bows!! I'm at a 30 inch draw and never noticed much stacking on either one.
I think some folks that think a bow stacks a lot just aren't ready for that extra weight, but don't want to accept it.

Agreed my friend. What I tested didn't produce any stacking other than the normal increase in weight past 28 inches. I think starting with the right draw weight is gets overlooked a good bit of the time, and my be what some consider a stacking issue. I really appreciate you watching and taking the time comment. I was actually worried I wouldn’t be able to own these bows as I am also a 30 inch draw length. I don’t care about the extra weight
You should be good with this bow my friend. Really past 28 inches you are only adding about 2 to 3 pounds extra, but it's really not that noticeable in small increments like that. I appreciate your time and the comment my friend. Have a great day. Best regards

Good review, lot of info here. I got a Black Hunter and returned it due to the quality control on it, it said it would come with a stringer but it didn't so I never got to shoot it. I like how the Samick Sage has fixtures for accessories, gives the bow some extra longevity since you can outfit it to work for your needs. Maybe I'll get that one.

Great information… I’ve come to the party quite late in life at 53 .. but just started shooting a bow at a casual Sunday shoot a couple of months ago. But in the new year I am looking to take things up a notch and complete a beginners course, join a club and buy a bow .. all very exciting .. so I’m in research phase at the moment trying to learn everything I can good and bad so I can make a good choice. Not sure how available everything will be as I’m in the UK. But thanks for your insights .. I have subscribed so I can check out your other videos. Looking forward to shooting a few arrows

As actual hunting is not legal in the UK 🇬🇧 so that will inform my choices. I prefer bare bow at the moment rather than Olympic style .. but I know nothing yet so who knows.

I’ve been lucky with my black hunter recurve and have taken several stalked pigs and a nice muley from 32 yards. It is Light and shoots really well. Fits my hand better than any bow ever had. But I shoot my samick sage better 3D target shooting. Just seems more stable and it seems hide slip ups in form much better and don’t get as much drift on small misfires. Great video
I've had my Sage for probably around 11 years, and still delighted with her. I've taken her hunting, in target tournaments, 3-D, and general flinging. I've never had an issue, the weight is comfortable, the grip is very comfortable, and I have relatively large hands. I make a Flemish twist B55 for the string, and I have about a 29" draw with no noticeable stacking.

I've been keen on the Sage since watching Survival Lily's video on the Sage. The tool less takedown and reassembly is a big selling point for me.
And the multiple limb poundages including 25 lb as I would like to get that weight for my wife.
I will probably start with 35 lb

I use the Samik sage for my survival needs and it's a great idea for preppers on a budget me not being able to own firearms this bow has made a huge difference in my survival needs and skills plus I keep a slingshot and pepper with body armor I got the 60 pound Samik sage and it works great for me I started at 50 with just a cheap 75 dollar Amazon bow to get me started then when I was ready for 60 thats when I bought my Samik sage for my permanent bow amd I'm glad I did

Great video. Thank you. I have paused my hunt for a traditional bow to find my draw length. I’m a tall guy so I figure maybe a longer draw. I had a fiberglass recurve bow when I was in middle school. I went through a time when I shot it a lot. I have my own kids now and I want to shoot a traditional bow again and maybe teach them. I have a SAS Maverick in my cart. My friend it’s great that you are getting back into it. Taller archers tend to have longer draw lengths for sure. I’ve tried to get my boys into the sport. They did for a while but have since found their own passions to pursue. I remember trying to pull my fathers 50 lbs recurve and struggled like crazy, but the arrow released, lol. I’ll remember that always.

@@ScottWinters thank you for the encouragement. My kids got to go behind the scenes at a Las Vegas show featuring archery. They both got to shoot a kid size recurve bow and a compressed air arrow shooter. It was fun for them. My daughter really liked it. My son kind of likes the BB gun. I ordered them a little Kainokai bow set to see how it goes. Meanwhile I will get back into it myself.

Hi Scott! Keep the vids coming, you do a great job. I just wanted to add some info on the Black Hunter topic. I believe the original was the one sold as an Obert Black Hunter. These were made by Junxing. Junxing called them the F171. Junxing also makes a 58" version - F178, SinoArt sells that one. Mandarin Duck and others have marketed the F171 as a Black hunter. All of these have the different limb shape for top and bottom. I purchased the SinoArt version in 60#'s and later got a pair of 40# limbs (unknown marketer-Ebay used) they both have the unique top and bottom limb profiles. Both test out accurately for draw weight. I think the ones with squared off and interchangeable top to bottom limbs are made by someone other than Junxing. I say this because Junxing has none on their website. I could be wrong, but I think most of the QC issues are with bows made by some other Chinese entity. It's kind of hard to say that Black Hunter has QC issues when the name Black Hunter does not refer to one specific company. There could be several different factories making them and using the same name. Unfortunately, there is no real control of intellectual property in China.
Ron, thanks for taking the time to make a great comment, and share some really good info. Agreed there are many different entities selling the "black hunter" . Someone stated in a previous comment that the majority of these offerings may be seconds. Hard to tell with the market being flooded the way it is. I wondered about squared limb ends as well, but didn't ponder over it too much. How do you like the Sino Art version? I think unless you go directly to the manufacturer there is no way to know what you are actually getting. I have read many reviews about these and it always seems there is mention of the draw weight issues. I wonder why that is so prevalent these aftermarket offerings. Maybe I was a bit broad stroked with the QC issues statement, i have said many dumb things in my 50 plus years on this spinning rock, LOL.

@@ScottWinters I've got a couple of decades, saying dumb things, on you. It's unlikely that you will catch up but keep at it! I got the Sino Art BH on ebay (new open box return) for 70 bucks. It uses the same riser as the 60" version, just shorter arms. I would not recommend the shorter version for someone my size (6') unless the poundage is 40 or less. Mine is great with longer 40# limbs I got off Ebay later. It was a real beast with the 60# limbs! I didn't have too much trouble drawing it but stringing it gave me a hernia!

Scott totaly agree with your assesment with black hunter limb delamination issue. Light arrows with heavier poundage limbs dont dissipate enough energy . My bow is setup for hunting so I shoot slightly heavier arrow so delamination hasnt been a issue. I ordered 55lb limbs and I have a short draw length 27" so I was expecting to be closer to 50lb draw at my draw length. I dont have a quality draw scale but my scale reads 52ish pounds at my draw length. So for me the black hunter is right at what I expected. Very pleased with it.
Appreciate the comment. I've taken some flack for that stance, but I stick by it. I went with heavier arrows myself, not taking chances. It took a minute , but I warmed up the BH finally so I'll keep.for as long as it works for me. It's always good to hear that others have a good one that suits their needs. I bought a sage for bowfishing, good shooter. I did not like the blockiness of the riser so I did some sanding and refinishing.

Lancaster also offers the black hunter offered as the galaxy ember it is more expensive but have had great luck with quality control at our shop

I purchased a PSE Nighthawk and from watching your video apparently it's a rebranded Sammick Sage because the look identical
I've seen those and thought the looked very similar as well.. it would not surprise me if it were. I think a lot of manufacturers either lift elements or outright copy what's on the market.

Good summarization Scott. I have a Black Hunter with 50# longbow limbs for tree stand deer hunting. Yes it is very agile from a tree stand and one of the quietest bows I've owned.
I have SWA Spider recurve which I am just getting acquainted with. Some call it a Samick Sage 2. It is 62" and 55#. I suspect the heavier draw weight will smooth out in a longer bow unlike the 60" Black Hunter.
I'd like to hear you speak on draw weights relative to different bow lengths? I don't hear that discussed much on UA-cam.

While I like the BH the shorter length and smaller sight window does feel a bit cramped when I shoot it. All shorter risers are prone to this though. I just watched your arrow weight and spine video. I am tweaking my Black Hunter arrows now. I'm running a 545 grain arrow with 135 gain Zwickey broadheads at 50# draw. They shoot well on level ground, even better from my 18' tree stand. Perhaps another topic as well. Tuning for tree stand hunting?
The negated gravity from a tree stand enhances my bows shootability a lot!
Love my Sage! Got some 55lb SWA limbs for it, though, because the stock ones aren't that great. They delaminated on me because it wasn't strung correctly (my fault). I notice stacking with my 28" draw, too. I do wish I had a 66" version. It's not bad, though, especially for hunting. It's only kinda annoying after hundreds of shots per day.
The riser is awesome and I plan on getting more to try some mods like slight contouring and putting stain and Tung oil on it. I put a $10 12 oz. x spot weight on it and a limbsaver rubber dampener thingy that fits on, and it's so perfectly balanced, I noticed immediate and dramatic improvements in my arrow groupings. The SWA spyder riser I have is prettier but not as well balanced Also upgraded to fast flight based on it being an overwhelmingly recommended upgrade. Never even shot the stock one. Definitely recommend the Sage. For beginners I suggest 30lb stock limbs and also buying SWA 50-60lb limbs to work up to.

I find with most of the bows I have bought with bamboo core limbs they start off at higher poundages than stated and eventually settle in around the weight ordered, a little over or under I'm guessing it's due to the nature of the material and we expect everything to be exact, my Korean horse bows were the same but took longer to settle to the desired weight, so much so that by the time the limbs reached the ordered weight they felt under powered, something to keep in mind if your ordering bamboo.

This is exactly what I have found, with one addition: the black hunter longbow vatriant definitely starts its exponential stack at 29-29.5 inches. I have a 30.5 inch draw length, and the recurve version feels just fine, while the longbow feels really tough in the same draw weight. Makes sense though because the recurve can "unwind" and keep slower string angle than the longbow.
That's interesting my friend. I have read A long bow will start stacking sooner depending on how far you have to draw because of the starting string angle. @@ScottWinters Your Ghost should be really good with stacking since is a 64" bow overall. In my experience, I have found the max draw length for a modern mild reflex/delfex longbow without severe stacking is:
29" for 60 inch bow
30" for 62 inch bow
31" for a 64 inch bow
Etc...
Again, this is a general rule, and bow design plays a huge role. An extreme reflex deflex design will stack later, while a straight flat bow will stack sooner. Personally, for my shorter bows I prefer the recurve for the smoother draw for that bow size. Nothing ruins the experience more than hitting that stack. That said, my 68 inch longbow is 65 lb, and draws smoother than my 40 lb 60 inch recurve.... it's just the 65lb draw weight limits how much I can shoot it effectivelt.
My personal recommendation to anyone starting out is:
1. Get the longest bow that you can manage/handle.
2. Get a Traditional or hybrid longbow; they are geberally much more forgiving of mistakes while working on form
3. If you are a hunter, get the lowest legal draw weight you can, you can always upgrade from there and still take the bow out within your first 2 years of shooting.

I had both and gave the Black Hunter
away. Not a thing wrong with it I just prefer the Samick Sage. I shoot the 55lb limbs because I have a hobbits 26.25 inch draw length. Though a budget bow I had no problem harvesting my Alberta elk (635g arrow) with the Sage. Nice upload. Subscribing was an easy decision.
Both are good for recreational backyard shooting, both can be used for hunting, but if you want to go into Olympic target shooting, the Sage is your entryway into that
I own a Black Hunter recurve (and one in longbow form as well) and a Samick Sage. I prefer the black hunters but if you take a sander to the Sage's riser you can round off all those ugly square edges, adjust the ergonomics on the grip and lose some weight and vibration in the process. Having done that to it, the Sage still comes in a close second but it's a lot better now than in it's original form!

I’ve always really liked and pondered on Matisyahu’s lyric “I'm the arrow, you're my bow, shoot me forth and I will go” when it comes to fathering children. You can only sculpt the arrow so much before you just have to shoot it and have faith they’ll fly straight. I’m very blessed to have the boys I do. Even if they don’t like archery I’m going to continue to practice. It’s a great skill to have, especially if shit hits the fan and we go back to the Stone Age! I just got a PSE Nighthawk which I hear is a relabled Samick Sage.
To me stacking is when your bow starts behaving like a fishing cane, only thing is that fishing canes won't break because they are designed to behave like that, they bend a lot at the tip until the breaking force becomes a pulling force. the pulling force transfers to the cane handle which is very very thick so it will not break.

My recommendation would be the Southwest Archery Spyder or Spyder XL. It’s one of my favorite recurves that I own. You can use a fast flight string with this bow. Shoots good and is easy on the wallet. There is a sizing difference between the two, but the bows are identical in form and function. Just check the descriptions of each to pick the right one for your needs.

I noticed this is a couple years old when I found it, I am looking at these two bows , wonder if the quality issues with the black hunter have been resolved? I like the look of it better .
The Samick is really loud because of the limb pockets I would recommend the Black Hunter over the Samick any day...

It's easy to silence the Sage. Put that thin white foam paper that people use for shipping in the pocket before putting limbs on.
The designers from Sammic that designed the sage went to Southwest archery and made the spider has a thinner riser with a much more comfortable handle but it's essentially the same thing

I like them both they shoot great after you get the brace hieght and nock point right the samick sage offers more options/add on's but mine started to stack after 28.5" so i give the edge to the black hunter and it also can be interchangeable with longbow limbs. Always shoot heavier arrows a minimum of 9 grains per pound. Fast flight bow string not recommended

After putting 1000 -1200 shots through it, the Black Hunter Recurve will settle into about 44.9-46.3lbs @28". that's been my experience anyhow. I originally bought the Black Hunter Long Bow
and bought a set of 45# Recurve Limbs for it as the risers for both are nearly identical other than a slight difference in shape on the mount point for the lower limb of the long bow, which is squared of whereas the Recurve Riser is cut to the same angel as the top right (on the belly side) of the lower Recurve Limb
Also both sets of limbs like heavier arrows, say between 12-14 grains per pound of draw weight. Also you're right about it not being a beginners bow, I would recommend it for an advanced beginner to an intermediate shooter, however it does lend itself well to track and stalk hunting because of how compact it is, so there is that too :)

Awesome video Scott, Im brand new to sport,I have not used a bow yet Im 54 yrs old and would like to start ,Im right handed,what are you suggestions to me on a bow and what one left or right,I hunt with a rifle and a use my right eye to sight the gun.
R D, I appreciate your time! Great question. Being right-handed I would definitely go with a right-hand bow. Also, consider what draw weight you would like to start with. I would start with a take-down recurve or longbow. The reason for this logic is that you want to start with a lower draw weight and build up to your ideal draw weight. Lower weight will allow you to work on the fundamentals like your form and your anchor. The last thing you want is to struggle to hold too much weight trying to get those consistent. Once you determine what weight you are comfortable with you can move on to whatever brand of bow you are partial to in your preferred draw weight.
Which bow to buy. There are a lot of great choices on the market. I am partial to Southwest Archery bows, I own the Ghost and the Spyder XL. both are takedown bows and both are great shooters. The advantage to them is you can start with low draw weight and purchase heavier weight limbs as you progress and get stronger. Again, there are a lot of choices on the market.
I am right eye dominant, but actually, shoot with both eyes open. Hard to explain that part of it. It tends to be a more instinctive style of shooting, instead of actually aiming as you would with a rifle.
No matter how you end up aiming I would start within 5 to 10 yards of the target to get comfortable with it and then progressively move further back from the target.

Hey Scott, I own a Samick Sage too, and I have seen some videos where people have used a dremel and reshaped the Sage to take away that blocky feel/look, and have made it more rounded at certain spots. I'm thinking about doing it to my Sage, and think you should check it out

@@ScottWinters I've had a ton of sages,and finally decided to rework the grip to fit me better.
Went slow,taking away a little at a time till I got what I wanted. Been almost a year and no issues at all. The key is because your cutting into that dymondwood,is to seal it when you get it where u want it,to prevent expanding and cracking. I used minwax polyurethane,and it's been great,hunted all season in all weather,and target shoot all year and no issues.

The sage is a smaller bow , so it won't stack as easily as a shorter bow . I often buy mint vintage bows , but I wanted to try a long bow , so I purchased the black hunter long bow 40lb MIne was right on

Ordered a Sage and returned it. Lower limb was loose in pocket and would not properly tighten down. Limb was undersized or pocket oversized.

My compound bow is set at 80lbs and it’s not hard to pull back I would assume to go to the 60lbs draw back on the sage?
I have the 40 lb black hunter I absolutely love this little bow it is my first however other than a PSE snake which doesn't count sage is hideous there's a guy at my range that uses one and I feel like it looks like 1973 not like the late '60s for later in the 70s like you want 😂

Own 2 bows, three sets of limbs 2 longbow(35lbs and 55lbs) 1 recurve (20lbs), no quality issues regarding delams, not setup to test weight.
D97 (from Krammar) string improved the bows comfort and speed over the supplied string.
Biggest complaint about the Black Hunter so far is from my wife, not able to add any thing to the bow, she wants to fish.
Have never used a Sage but would love too!
The Black hunter is not a bad bow, some issues with QC, but after further research I think it's mainly due to so many offerings by different companies that let the issues come in. I have heard a lot of great reviews on the longbow version. Yes you cannot add anything to them, so that is a deal breaker for some. The small sight window was a bit different than anything I have shot before so it always felt cramped to me.
I still love you shoot my sage and have owned it for years with no issues.

Can I put Black Hunter limbs on a Sage riser? I know that Black Hunter limbs have small holes to fit the index pin, but the Sage uses pockets, so there is no need for that. As long as the width and the bolt fit, I might make a franken bow out of them.
I’m not sure if you can just based on the ends of the limbs. Would definitely be a great experiment to see if it works. Let me know what you find out. Thanks for the detailed info!! I am currently a compound shooter, and am looking to maybe pick up recurve too. I watched quite some videos about Black Hunter, and yours only confirms it more: it is a pretty good bow for a good price. Definitely want to buy that one.
But, you said it's probably not best for beginners. Did you mean "beginners to archery in general" or "beginners to recurve archery specifically"?
And a last question (if you ever shot compound bows too, otherwise ignore this...) are there, besides the letoff that compound has, other things that I have to take into account? I shoot currently with fingers (3 under), does that give me an advantage to using recurve? Or would I basically have to learn from scratch, because the differences are so big?
Thank you for the comment and questions. The Black Hunter is a good bow. There are so many vendors offering this bow the QC can be hit or miss. I was speaking specifically to new archers due to the draw weight variances. Anyone with experience would already have experienced quirks with bows,compound or traditional.
I used to shoot compound exclusively. Last compound I owned was a Mission Riot. Great shooter. Once I started traditional it presented new challenges and re-energized my passion for archery. There are few things to take into account. Draw weight being the most important. Holding 40 lbs until you’re ready to release the arrow is more challenging than it seems. Just takes some getting used to because the muscle groups get a workout.
Most recurves are not center cut and finding that right combination of spine and foc weight to get the arrow to fly straight is the fun part.
I tried three under shooting for the longest time. Finally decided it was not for me. Once I switched to split finger it made a world of difference. I admire those that can shoot three under. I think it’s a matter of finding our own way of things and enjoying the journey.

I own the black hunter 30# recurve limbs and I purchased additional 40 lb longbow limbs. I love this bow. I have many bows and I always gravitate to this one. I know the hammock gets great reviews but that is the clumsiest looking riser ive ever seen
the weight issue is major. it may mess your form as you struggle. for me it's a deal breaker. I own a samick and i ll say this. the limbs are tanks! slapped them by accident on door twice. the slap was after full draw release and it was hard. they are perfectly fine! many other bows would surely break after this. for the price, it may be the best bow under 200-300 usd. with a couple changes( perfecting the riser, better string in the package etc) they could sell it 300-350 easily.
Absolutely agree with you on the weight. I still enjoy shooting my Sage. Just restrung it and took it out for a spin yesterday. I have put mine through its paces and have not had one single issue in the years that I have owned it. I think they sorta refined it with the release of the Spyder by Soutwest Archery. The same designers that made the Sage are now under SA. I have the Syder XL and it is an excellent shooter as well.

Liked your videos. I have both a black hunter and a samick sage at 35 # but both of them perform differently with different arrow spines. Could you recommend the best arrow spine for my bows? My draw length is 27 inches.
At 35 pounds you could go with a 600 spined arrow. Maybe even a 500 spine arrow full length. You might have to tune the 500s to get the dynamic spine right by adding weight up front. That's best guess though. I would start with the 600 full length they should give you good performance. What brand you use would be a preference thing and depending on which brand you go with make sure you check their spine chart to see what is suggested for 35 draw weight. My friend I think it all comes down to preference. I've looked at ilfs before and have been on the fence with the idea. Honestly I can't justify making the investment. Could be a simple matter of options available for limbs and riser combinations. Thats a big positive. But cost to get quality is going to be an issue for some. As a hunter I'd never consider the Sammick Sage. Bigger and heavier riser, less sleek and more protrusions for brush to get caught on, and slower velocity. The black hunter is super sleek and light weight, shoots great off the shelf, and is honest just a perfect hunting bow.

The Samick does stack real bad It is a really hard bow to shoot if you have a draw over 28 inches
I have two of the samick sage bows and 40 to 60 lbs limbs they were under a hundred bucks at the time the draw weight was on the money I did immediately put the Flemish twist fast flight string on them I found it took a lot of tunning to finally get them to shoot fair. The black hunters change strings padded the limbs where string slap occurred silencers and vertualy silent out classed the sage bows hands down hardly any tunning at all shooting robin hoods at 20 yards not intentional just that tight of group you're dead right about the weight good comparison, I'll be watching 👍

I just got my first Obert Black Hunter Archery Takedown Recurve Bow , I got the 60 lb and I'm very new at using a bow one thing I noticed about the black Hunter there no places to put sight or anything on it so do I use the arrow to use for my sight?
Bobby, you are correct. It's a process to get it right. Basically you are pointing your arrow in the direction you want aim at and release the shot. While you can't look directly down the arrow shaft you will get a sense of instinctive aiming, based on how high or low the tip of the arrow is in relation to your target. Its the same for righy and left. It's kinda hard to explain, but after you start shooting a lot your brain will start making calculations based on what you are seeing in your field of view. From there you make slight adjustments based on where the arrow impacts the target. What's more crucial in the beginning is to work on and make sure your form, a consistent anchor point, and a clean release are good. Practice those three religiously and it will make a world of difference in the long run. If u can help in any way let me know. Have a great day. Best regards.

@@ScottWinters Yes, my draw length is 32". I've just ordered a Black Sheep Nova, which as far as I'm aware is an updated version of the Samick Sage with longer limbs to make a 64" bow, apparently it's identical to the SWA Spyder XL, which was designed by the same people as the original sage.
ive had a theory that the batches of glue the bow makers get have good and bad shipments and effects the end product and you get unlucky with your purchase time

Which method do you find the best to measure your draw length?
What I found works best is measuring the arrow at full draw. Have someone assist you with this. Draw an arrow back to your anchor point and have someone mark the arrow in front of the riser. A marker or paint pen works best for this. Measure the length from the throat of the nock to the mark and that’s your draw length. Draw a few times to ensure your anchor is consistent.

If you wanna go into instinctive or traditional archery go for the black hunter. If you are getting your foot into olympic style archery then go for the samick sage as it's a similar form factor and you can attach any olympic-style gadgets you want to it.
Samick sage is more like a purpose-built entry level training tool but the black hunter is a true hunting bow that shoots and feels just like any top-tier hunting recurve/longbow.

Either one will do well. My Sage has lasted me for years and hasn’t failed me yet. It’s consistent every time I shoot. Also, the way you care for the bow will factor into that as well. Do they make a left handed bow which a shorter draw length (25-26)?
I believe any bow will accommodate that draw length. 28 is just the standard for draw weight measurement. What draw weight at that length might be 2 to 3 lbs lower than stated draw weight.
Left hand bows I can't speak to. Being a right hand shooter I haven't looked for any.

I have a Sage, it shoots no better, no worse than my $500 semi-custom nor my $1,500 custom.
But I shoot my custom mostly. Not because it shoots better, but I love the feel and look. Anyone tell you differently, they are pulling your leg.
