    only issue I have is when I make multiple paintjobs in a single mod. the mod image shown is visible only for the main (first) paintjob I did, the other added, show the rectangle with the sizes, but that's not a big issue.
    EDIT: I managed to fix that, just needed to create another file in the material-ui folder (that I did forgot to)

      I don't support paid mods in Paint Job Packer or my template pack because I believe paid mods are harmful to the community. I'm afraid you'll have to use templates provided by the mod authors, and you'll have to either make the paint jobs manually, or use custom XMLs with Mods Studio.

    • @Carsmaniac
      @Carsmaniac  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, this is unfortunately a known issue. I made Paint Job Packer using Python, and in order to package it all up into a .exe file that anyone can run I used a program called PyInstaller, which has a known issue where the files it creates are flagged as false positives. I've submitted builds of PJP to Microsoft multiple times so they can scan them in-depth, and each time fixes one false positive, but another shows up eventually.
      If you're comfortable using Python, you can have a look at the GitHub page (where the full source code is available) and run the .py files directly, or even build the .exe files yourself if you download PyInstaller.
      Unfortunately there's not much else I can do about it for now, until I find a better solution for packaging PJP up into an app. Sorry!

    This Video is great!!! The best what i ever seen. :) Since you are so good at explaining, could you please make a tutorial on how to integrate skins directly into the game? So not as a mod but as an internal modification? Unfortunately, the SCS Multiplayer does not yet support any mods. But I was told that mods can be rewritten in such a way that only I can see them. Unfortunately I miss a good tutorial that deals with skins and these "offline" mods. :-/

    So, i have a skin that looks really great, but when i apply it to the truck, the sideskirts look totally weird (mod). I have templates for the sideskirts, but i cant seem to figure out how to get the skin to apply to them. Is it possibly to skin sideskirts that are a mod, through a paintjob?
    I CAN skin them, but thats inside the mod folder for the sideskirts, so they will always look like that. I just want the color, stripes and so on, to follow the paintjob, so that i can use the same sideskirts on another truck, but not in the same color.
    Also, super epic and greatly detailed guide here! Thumbs up! Paintjob Packer made it so easy to get started! Thank you!

    • @Carsmaniac
      @Carsmaniac  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks :) You can make a paintjob with changeable colours using Mods Studio 2, but not using Paintjob Packer unfortunately. That kind of mod is a bit more complicated, and it involves making parts of your texture (the parts you want to be changeable) bright red, green or blue. You then tell the game which colour it needs to be by default by converting it to the SCS colour space (divide by 255 then square) and popping it in one of the .sii files, in the correct fields (mask_r_color etc). I personally don't have any experience making them myself, but there might be good tutorials somewhere on the web that could help you!

    • @Carsmaniac
      @Carsmaniac  Рік тому

      Is it a blank white square as well? In that case, it's because that file doesn't have a template in your generated mod. If you didn't tick the "use templates" box (3:22), or if you didn't download the "Windows with included templates" version of PJP, all of your DDS files will be like that. Or, if you did download templates and you are using them, some of the DDS files will still be like that - the files for minor parts like mirrors and sideskirts.
      If a DDS file is a small white square, and you just want to recolour it, you can just change the colour of the image and keep it at 16x16. If you want to put designs on it, you can change its size in your image editor, optionally drop a template on top, and make your design.

    hi! thank you so much for your work. i am having some trouble getting started tho. I'm sorry if this may sound like a stupid question.
    how do I "install" the truck templates?
    when I generate a paintjob pack using the packer tool, the .dds files I get are a measly 1 kb. I'm suspecting i need to place the downloaded template files somewhere so the tool can pack them properly when generating.

    • @Carsmaniac
      @Carsmaniac  3 роки тому

      At the moment, you can only install the templates when you first install Paintjob Packer - if you download the installer version (i.e. windows-installer, not windows-portable or the source code), you can choose to install the templates in the installer.
      The template pack you can download separately, with PNG and PSD files, is a completely separate thing, but if you wanted to use it without reinstalling Paintjob Packer, you can just resize one of the 1 KB files to 4096x4096, then pop one of the templates from the template pack on top.
      Hope this helps!

    First of all thanks for this tutorial!
    One question though...
    Do I have to overwrite the existing templates in the Paintjob Packer folder if I use your customized templates or do I just have to save them as they are named?
    I'm wondering because they're named differently than the ones inside Paintjob Packer and theoretically they probably won't get recognized by the game.
    It's my first time trying to create a Paint Job this way and I didn't notice any information about this in the video.
    I would appreciate your help!

    • @Carsmaniac
      @Carsmaniac  9 місяців тому +1

      @@Carsmaniac
      Thanks for the quick reply!
      Okay, at least I was able to create a paint for the cabin.
      So is it irrelevant e.g. which of your chassis templates I'll use as long as I overwrite the chassis template within the Paintjob Packer folder?
      Edit:
      After re-reading my question, I have realized that it's probably very difficult to understand. I will therefore try to explain my request in more detail.
      Let`s say I try to create a skin for the Scania S. Within the accessories folder of your templates there a multiple versions for each part - e.g. Chassis Cover (4x), Chassis Cover (6x Short) and Chassis Cover (6x Long) - where as in the created Paintjob folder there's only one template for the chassis. So how to I know which chassis template I have to use?

    • @Carsmaniac
      @Carsmaniac  9 місяців тому +1

      @@manollobango Ah gotcha, sorry for misunderstanding before!
      Short answer: If you want an intricate design (like a logo or pattern) on the chassis cover and you're going to use a specific one yourself (e.g. you always drive a 4x truck), use that template. If you just want to set the chassis cover to a solid colour, you don't need to use any template and you can just make the DDS a solid colour. If you want an intricate design that is different for each one, so that you can make the logo fit on each chassis cover individually for example, it gets a bit tricky...
      Long answer: You're right that for parts like that, there are multiple templates in the template pack but only one DDS. In this case for example, the Scania S has 3 different chassis covers (one for each axle configuration), but Paint Job Packer only generates a single Chassis Cover.dds file. In mods generated by PJP, every chassis cover will use whatever texture is in that single DDS file. There are similar stories with many of the other accessories, like sun visors, sideskirts, etc.
      The reason why I've done things that way is so that I can hopefully strike a balance between letting people paint all the different parts the way they want to, and not overwhelming people by making every truck have over 100 DDSes that need to be edited. I'm sure you can imagine how painful it'd be if you needed to edit 19 different sideskirt files, and 12 different rear fenders, etc etc.
      In my experience, most of the little fiddly accessories like that just need to be a solid colour, e.g. everything below the bottom of the cabin is black, or everything behind the front wheel is red, or something like that, and in that case each of those DDSes can just be made a solid colour, they don't even need a template.
      If you do want to make separate textures for each part, you'll need to do some fiddly file editing, making a new accessory group and moving the parts you want (e.g. the 6x Long chassis cover) out of the existing group and into the new one. You'll need to edit some SII files with a text editor, and a TOBJ file with a hex editor (like HxD). I recorded a quick clip separating the main mirrors from the "Mirrors" accessory on the Scania S, you can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/kBzFCfVl0vk/v-deo.html If you try it yourself, make sure to change the filepath length in the TOBJ as well, it's explained at 16:19 in this video, and I change it at about 0:28 in the linked video.
      Ideally there'd be some nice way to group together or break up the accessory parts in Paint Job Packer itself, but since PJP was a pandemic project of mine the code is all a spaghetti nightmare, so I'll leave that feature to the 2.0 rewrite that I'm (slowly) working on :)
      Sorry for the long rambling answer, I hope it helps...? Let me know if you need anything explained in more detail!

      @@Carsmaniac
      Thanks for the detailed reply!
      Okay wow, that's a lot of information I've to process first 😅
      Well, I'm trying to paint an intricate design e.g. onto the Scania S (maybe I've to paint it also on another trucks for my mates) and also on trailers etc. later on.
      Just the background of the design alone already has a color gradient and multiple stripes with different widths, which at the end should perfectly match all the way from the front of the truck to the end of the trailer.
      I've already noticed that this project will be very time consuming and it'll be very fiddly to match everything up nicely - I guess it would be a lot easier if most of the accessories would just use one UV map? - but however, it definitely would be much harder to achieve without your helpful tool and your tutorials, so I really appreciate your work and help!
      I'll let you know if I need more help!

    This is a very useful and easy to follow tutorial, I have my paint job in game but am having issues with the actual colour of the vehicle. The paint code on the DDS file has come out as a more faded colour in gmae?

    • @Carsmaniac
      @Carsmaniac  Рік тому

      That would be because the game uses a gamma colour space, whereas most image editors like Photoshop use a linear colour space. The technical differences don't matter too much, but the result is that certain colours will look a little off when you put them in-game, I've noticed it happens most obviously with certain shades of red and yellow. There are ways to convert your colours to the SCS colour space, or preview what they will look like, but the easiest thing to do is just trial and error - tweak your colours until they look correct. It's not ideal, but it's one of the side effects of the somewhat odd way mods work in SCS games :)

      I make most of my logos in Adobe Illustrator, but you could also use a free tool like Inkscape, or you could even make logos in Photoshop/GIMP/Paint.net.
      More important than the software that you use is your personal skillset - making logos/stickers is graphic design - which comes down to practice mostly. If you just make a bunch of logos while learning the software, you'll get better. You could also take an online course on Skillshare or LinkedIn Learning or something, or in my case I studied it at uni.

      Yes! Trailer paintjobs work the exact same as truck paintjobs, just replace all of the DDSes that are generated.

    The western star 49x now has a power hood option, which seems to cause anything you put on the doors to "bleed over" onto it. :-\ Trying to find a solution

    thanks for the amazing tutorial, although i have one more question: can you re-skin existing parts like the "globetrotter" signs on top of your windshield on the volvo trucks? if so, how can i?

    • @Carsmaniac
      @Carsmaniac  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes! The FH Tuning Pack DLC lets you swap out that part for a paintable one, and the DLC parts are already included on the templates.
      In general you can't re-skin other parts like that though, only parts that are paintable. Any part of the truck that is affected by a standard paint colour can be re-skinned, anything else would probably involve custom truck parts, which are more complicated to make.

    It s not working:( Whatever I do thise black lines remain on the truck

    • @Carsmaniac
      @Carsmaniac  2 роки тому +1

      Do the black lines remain on top of your paint job, or does your paint job not show up at all and the truck is just black and white?
      If they show up on top, make sure you hide the template layer before exporting your paint job to a .dds
      If your paint job isn't showing up at all, it could be a few things.
      - Double check that you're previewing it on the correct truck & cabin.
      - If you've already bought the paint job, it won't update in-game. Try exiting to your profile and loading back in. If it starts working then, then that's what your problem is, try selling the paint job on all of your owned trucks.
      - If you copied the mod files from Paintjob Packer Output to your mod folder instead of moving them, are you actually saving over the files in the mod folder, or are you accidentally saving over the copies that are sitting on your desktop/wherever?
      Good luck!

    Hello, how is this setup for ets2 ? Any suggesties ?
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
    GPU: GTX 1650 Super 4 gb
    RAM: 16 GB 3200 mhz
    SSD: 512 gb

      @Carsmaniac  2 роки тому

      That should be fine for ETS 2! I used to run it on a 1060 with a less powerful CPU and 8 GB of RAM, and I could get a solid 60 fps at 1080p, and even run the VR version at low-med settings.
