Now you're talking, keep it up panny! I've just bought the S5iiX, may well get this GH7 and...the S1H II/S2H next? 😎👍
Finally panasonic listened to their customers ,have a ton a load of lenses for the micro 4/3 in my inventory ,glad they fixed the AF ,will upgrade from the GH5
Thanks for the great review. I'd like to know how is Arri log working in GH7, look forward to your next review.
To use ARRI Log with the Panasonic Lumix GH7 Mirrorless Digital Camera, you would have to purchase the *Panasonic DMW-SFU3A Lumix ARRI LogC3 Upgrade Software Key* _(B&H # PADMWSFU3)_ as a separate purchase. This would give you the ability to shoot in ARRI LogC3 and have a base ISO of 320. For more information, you may view the following link on our website: bhpho.to/4celMcm
One thing which appears to be missing is pre-record of stills as used to be a feature of the GH5. Olympus and many other cameras provide this feature which is becoming more standard for photographers who want to catch action prior to pressing the shutter button.
The GH7 has the pre-capture feature like the G9II.
@@santcain thanks for that I’d missed it.
YAH YAH YAH! Here goes my GAS again $3298 AUD (Camera body only) might wait till the price comes down. Thanks for yet again a comprehensive review. I am still happy with both my GH5 & GH5II. I was keen on the S5IIX but I have invested a lot of money in my PRO MF3 lens collection I don't want to move to the L mount system. I did not like the GH6 enough to upgrade, Now here we are with a much better MF3 Camera.... there will be a lot of older Lumix cameras going cheap (maybe including mine) to be able to upgrade to the LUCKY GH7. We shall see.
I sure wish my S1H had phase detect auto focus and 32 bit float audio.
Is there a coms cable to be able to effectively move the hotshoe somewhere else?
Yes, Lanpart makes one but its discontinued. I think B&H might have some left tho.
Minute 2:37, bottom left corner, still the light streak issue. Is this video shot with GH7?
I've seen other reviews claiming that this has been fixed; wonder if this wasn't shot with the 7. Check out Gerald Undone's review for more info.
Thanks for the video! Just so I understand, the GH7 can shoot 5.7K 60fps in ProRes, OR, 5.7K 60fps only in 10-bit? Thanks :)
According to the Panasonic website, 5.7K 30p ProRes RAW HQ footage can be recorded on the camera body itself. It also can recored 5.7K in 4:2:2 10-Bit up to 30fps.
Can you still use the original XLR module with the GH7?
And perhaps more importantly, can you use the NEW xlr module with the GH6? How about 5/5S?
Does it record BRAW via HDMI like GH6? Not listed so far on compatibility list on blackmagic video assist page :(
The Specifications page on Panasonic's website for the Panasonic LUMIX GH7 does list under [HDMI RAW DATA OUTPUT] that compatible external devices are the Blackmagic Video Assist 5" 12G HDR and the Blackmagic Video Assist 7" 12G HDR. It also states that DaVinci Resolve or DaVinci Resolve Studio is required to play back and DaVinci Resolve Studio to edit Blackmagic RAW data, and to please refer to the Blackmagic Design website for the information on the corresponding firmware version of Blackmagic Video Assist 5” 12G HDR and Blackmagic Video Assist 7” 12G HDR.
@@BandH Thx. I just checked again BMD Video Assist 7" 12G home page, and GH7 is still not listed as compatible.
You need to poke them :D
I have the G9II. I will probably not use Pro Res Raw. But if Lumix will offer the $500 extra trade in like they did on the G9II I might get the GH7
I’ll buy one of them 🎉
I'm waiting for a compact gh5. Or a g100 ii.
GM5? Which will be called GM6 :D
We want BRAW, leave prores for theApple fanattics
Internal of course. External is to cumbersome.
At 9:50 battery life is at 2h35m and battery symbol is half empty. What kind of battery do you use?
The camera uses the DMW-BLK22 battery.
@@BandH so the battery provides power for around 4h?
Can someone tell me if I should get this or the S5iix and why?
Both the Panasonic LUMIX GH7 Mirrorless Digital Camera and the Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX Mirrorless Camera would be great camera options. The benefits of the Panasonic LUMIX GH7 Mirrorless Digital Camera would be its ability to capture 4K video at 120p frame rate for slow-motion video usage needs, its much reduced rolling shutter performance, the ability to internally record ProRes RAW video quality, and its optional 32-bit float audio would all be compelling reasons that the smaller sensor size of the GH7 can still deliver in areas over the Panasonic LUMIX S5 IIx. That being said, the Panasonic LUMIX S5 IIx's full-frame sensor size will have an advantage in capturing both video and still images in low-lighting, has Dual Native ISO (ISO 640 and ISO 4000)will have better dynamic range performance, and you will notice a difference in depth-of-field when photographing at large aperture settings for shallow depth-of-field. If you are shooting moving items and would benefit from better rolling shutter performance and the faster 120p frame rate when shooting 4K footage would be beneficial for your shooting needs, the GH7 would be worth considering. If you instead shoot at night or in low-lighting or in clubs, or you shoot scenes with wide changes in light levels, the S5 IIx may work better for your usage needs.
kinda feels like it is a bit to late for them to introduce phase detect autofocus into mft. those who needed it years ago has already left the system and it’ll be costly to “go back”.
I’d buy it for half the price though.
Another video about this GH7. All of them pops up.
This is how press embargos work
what are native iso of gh7 ?
The native base ISO for the Panasonic LUMIX GH7 Mirrorless Digital Camera is ISO 100 for standard color modes and ISO 500 for V-Log. When using Hybrid Log Gamma, the base ISO is ISO 250. If you place a separate purchase for the Panasonic DMW-SFU3A Lumix ARRI LogC3 Upgrade Software Key (B&H # PADMWSFU3), when shooting in ARRI LogC3, the base ISO is ISO 320 (as the LogC3 curve was designed to be used with cameras that have a higher dynamic range).
Does it really come with a dummy battery or was that just something sent to reviewers?
can someone please clarify what 50fps 4:3 Open Gate modes this camera supports?
Proxies at the least? any improvements over the Gh6? or is it just 4.4k with a significant crop?
All of this mentioned in the video
Watch it 😊
Waiting for s1r ii so that i can buy s1r at low price xD
How so that only 2 years after launch of GH6 comes GH7? Isn't it too fast?
Yes, it's way too fast. This isn't good. I miss the days when they took over 5 years to release a new model. /s
We couldn’t take anymore the light streaking issue 🫣
@@HokKan Also from the specs of it looks more like GH6 MK. II than a brand-new camera.
Pro res raw is too heavy...braw has options
In my opinion, the actual image quality didn't improve much after gh5 and gh5s. They were and still are cutting-edge cameras. Of course gh7 is better, but there is no difference like between gh1 and gh3 or gh3 and gh5
No UFO detection mode? ...pass
This was a fail for GH7. No future proofing for high frame rates. 4K 200 fps or 240 fps should've been a feafure. Icing on the cake would've been good quality 1080P or 2K 960 fps.even if limited to 2 second recording end trigger mode.
Just rent a superspeed camera for those special tasks. No one cares about that on a regular basis. If you do tho, there are other cameras. Get a cheap used Sony FS700 and a external recorder for your low budget super slow motion. This cam is packet with features you won't find on that price point.
@@simon_sky the point I’m trying to make is that Panasonic could’ve been
more bold in being the first to offer these frame rates in a mirrorless format. They have the advantage because it’s easier to do these frame rates in a smaller sensor. We’ve already seen the high frame tech in Sony one inch cameras (albeit lower quality) back in 2015. M43 isn’t that much bigger than one inch.
@@chinitopinoy1726 I guess the user group is just too small, I am very happy they included Arri Log instead of spending money on higher framerate development. Also I guess this isn't the right platform for high speed video anyway. 120p with downsampled sensor is already pretty amazing. So I wouldn't call this camera a fail just because of that one specific feature.
@@simon_sky okay maybe I went too far calling it a fail. But I’m hoping the next GH8 will bring these higher frame rates to the table. 👍
Think about the lens you already have before buying another new camera.
only dips do auto-focus
This better than Sony A9III?
A9III is a specialized sports camera that will generally be used to shoot stills of sports, and to a lesser degree, wildlife. It shoots 24MP stills at 120 frames per second. The GH7 is video-centric. It shoots 4k 120 frames per second, which is about 8 or 9 MP. The Sony has state of the art focus tracking for fast moving subjects. The GH7 does not. It's autofocus, while greatly improved over previous models, is nowhere near what Sony's autofocus is capable of.
It sounds like a very good choice for video. But stills, not so much.
