9:10 It's unofficially confirmed if he "Did" had sex with the doll but this is part of the dialogue from Gherman when speaking to him and I quote
"This was once a safe haven for hunters. A workshop where hunters used blood to enhance their weapons and flesh. We don't have as many tools as we once did, but... You're welcome to use whatever you find. (Whispers) ...Even the doll, should it please you..." - Gherman.

As crazy as MaxOr makes the lore appear, I guarantee, it’s even crazier when you dig into it. If anything, he’s under-exaggerating.
If weird, creepy, lovecraftian style games are you’re thing, with intense difficulty, then this game is perfect. If not, than it’s still absolutely amazing

Oh, he's under-exaggerating. Look up the story of Queen Yharnam(hope I spelled that right), the story is the actual representation of what women were treated like back then. Its... a brutal and painful story.

I’d argue Elieen the crow is the closest you’ll get to a “Good person.” When the hunters eventually fell to their bloodlust, Eileen, a crow hunter, will be dispatched to kill them before they can hurt others. They do so not because they love it (unlike average hunters), but because they have to for the greater good.

@@wirliet A fair point, but I ague that Elieen makes more tangible difference and does harder, more dangerous jobs for the greater good. So, for the most part, Max0r actually got the lore summarized pretty well. Gehrman even legitimately made that doll, which due to interdimensional shenanigans does in fact gain sentience. She's the one that levels you up in this game.
The only part that's really debatable is the Moon Presence's (the one that trapped Gehrman) motives. And that's a rabbit hole too vast for comment sections to go over.
And finally, as per request, I am among those that finished this game. I loved it so much that I tracked down every trophy/achievement and played through even the dlc on new game+. I adore it to bits!

So, getting into the Lore of Bloodborne would take a very, *very* long time, and some parts are vague because the history is only conveyed through item descriptions and environmental storytelling, but here's the basic gist:
    [Spoilers ahead]
A long time ago there was a civilization known as the Pthumerians, ruled over by a Queen named Yharnam. The Pthumerians venerated the Old Ones as gods and communed with them regularly, with Yharnam being especially blessed and eventually being impregnated by one of them. However, *something* happened, the pregnancy went wrong (or perhaps her child was taken from her before it was born), and things started to go bad for the Pthumerians so they locked themselves in massive catacombs to try to wait things out.
Ages pass, and eventually people resettle the area once ruled by the Pthumerians. These settlers eventually poke around and find the catacombs where the Pthumerians were locked away, but instead of turning around and locking them up again like sensible people, these settlers (located in the town of Yharnam, named after the Queen) decide to experiment with what they found, creating the Academy of Byrgenwerth with the assistance of an offshoot of the Old Ones named Ebrietas. By mixing alien humours with human blood, they are able to concoct a substance known as the Old Blood, which allows them to do everything from heal injuries and cure illnesses, to give people superpowers, to making contact with the Old Ones.
While the guy in charge of the Academy, Wilhelm, thinks that continuing to experiment with the Old Blood is a bad idea, his protegee Lawrence thinks it's awesome and forms the Healing Church to help spread the use of the Old Blood far and wide. They get especially popular after helping to cure a plague in Yharnam, which may or may not have been intentionally caused by the Healing Church to help popularize their "blood ministrations." Regardless, the Healing Church gets super popular and the town of Yharnam grows into a sprawling metropolis based on the "miracles" of the Healing Church.
Things are going great until people start turning into monsters, which it turns out is caused by the use of the Old Blood. Since they can't exactly use the Old Blood to cure a problem caused by the Old Blood, a bunch of people (such as Gehrman, Ludwig and Lady Maria, among others) decide to start hunting down these monsters. This becomes a semi-regular occurrence, to the point where the people of Yharnam basically just come to accept it as another part of their life- and they just learn to never go outside on the night of the Hunt.
The caveat to all this is that the people transforming into monsters isn't random- it's a sign that the Old Ones are trying to sire new children. The problem is that the Old Ones cannot reproduce on their own; they need a surrogate. Humans, for better are worse, are ideal surrogates for the Old Ones, but the Old Ones have trouble just asking people because the last time they tried humans murdered one of them (which, in turn, gave birth to the Hunter's Nightmare in the Old Hunters DLC). So instead, they just wait until the time is right and select certain compatible individuals to bear the "blessing" of carrying their children.
But this is a problem, because if a new Old One is born, that could very well mean the end of humanity. So your job as a hunter is not just to kill all the monsters, but also to slay the newborn Old One. Or, if you choose to pursue the secret alternate ending, you can consume the umbilical cords of dead Old Ones and become an Old One yourself.

He does well to convey to overall concepts with accuracy. Only skewing the choice of wording to it for entertainment of course. It was the first "Soulsborne" game I have played fully, and a wonderful introduction into the games with a more quick start. On his mention of how "everything overlaps", this is actually a common unique quality to Fromsoft games where the map interconnectivity is often a feature where the start of the game is rarely just the start of a game, but it is more comparable to a secluded piece to a puzzle. Once accepting that fact, the matter in question often becomes "when is it relevant?" instead of "when am I done with it?" A lot of the fun of it is experiencing it for the first time, but unlike other titles, this one approaches with more of an eldritch horror element and a feature of health recovering by attacking enemies, immediately, after taking damage. The last real noteworthy detail, besides anything already said, is that the weapons are really cool and fun. All the weapons have a "Trick form" where they offer something very different from before when attacking. Fashion in Bloodborne is mainly cosmetic along with build up resistance to consider, but most people will simply dress how they want to.

Bloodborne is probably my favorite game ever. I did a drunk playthrough live on my channel where I only leveled up the “Skill” stat.
Which basically meant that I did crazy damage, but died if I got hit. So I decided to double down and use a consumable that made it so that the more aggressive I was, the more my attack went up and my defense went down. Ended up killing the final boss in about 11 seconds.

Bloodborne is my favorite fromsoftware game, the lore is some complicated stuff like max0r says but heres a quick version without going on too many nuances:
There are the Great Ones, beings beyond human comprehension and they exist in this universe, some people mess around with stuff they shouldnt and discover that blood can heal you, but they get cursed and turn into beasts, then there are the hunters, who hunt such beasts.
Thats the absolute base line of the lore, there are so many parallel stories, theres gherman whos trapped inside a dream after a contract with the Great One called Moon Presence, theres Kos, who was killed while pregnant and then threw a curse on the hunters which then became the Hunters Nightmare, so much stuff man, i recommend one of Vaati Vidya's video on bloodborne if you want a in depth explanation of the lore
Also yes, Gherman having sex with the doll is true.

There is a less time consuming (but unfortunately less funny) way to bully Micolash. You can control where he goes and cut out the first section of running by chasing him until he has to go left, then turn around and run at him from his right, forcing him into the room. The second part is also simple, just chase him through the first mirror then find the drop down area. Drop down BEHIND HIM and he'll run into the room. For killing him, get Beast Roar, beat him into a corner, and whenever you're almost out of stamina, use Beast Roar. He will never be able to attack and your stamina will recover while he flails around trying to get up.

as a big fan of both bloodborne and max0r, pretty much everything he says about the lore is somewhat true, just sometimes just worded differently to focus more on being funny (like for example at the start where he says you trick women into being impregnated by gods and then consume their children, while technically the truth is that you consume the umbilical cords, not the children themselves ( but you do have to kill the children to be able to eat the umbilical cord :) )
God I love this game, it's BY FAR my favourite game ever made. I play it about 4 times a year and yes indeed the boss Max0r was talking about with the poison knives is absolute hell if you don't use that or any other trick.

Bloodborne is a really fun game. Easily one of the best on the PS4 in my opinion. The combat, the exploration, the bosses, the lore, and the nightmares. *Especially* the nightmares. Also since you may not be able to play the game yourself, there is one playthrough I can recommend watching, which is EpicNameBro, as he goes over some of the lore too. Maybe not as in depth as Vaati Vidya, but still enjoyable.
Side note, he also does a good playthrough of Dark Souls 1.

  • @LordRaine
    @LordRaine Рік тому +1

Maxor isn't exaggerating. The basic gist of it is that the Great Old Ones, basically Cthulhu god monsters, long for children, but cannot have any themselves. So they're always trying to 'adopt' lesser beings and make them into their children. This causes innumerable problems. There are two endings to the game. Fight the old man at the end and kill him, or let him mercy kill you so you wake up from the 'dream' that is this nightmare dimension everyone is trapped in. If you fight him and win, the ending basically sees a Great Old One come come down from the moon and 'adopt' you. Non-consensually. But there are all these crazy mad-science crossbreeding experiments the people in-universe are doing to try and ascend to a higher plane of existence by taking in the power or blood of Great Ones and dead gods, and as a result of that, there are hybrid Great Ones that have been, for lack of a better term, concieved. You can find the umbilical cords of these stillborn gods hidden throughout the game. There are four in total. If you consume three of them, it makes you "immune" to the adoption, so when the Moon Presence comes to try and claim you as it's child, you can tell it to piss off and fight it. This Moon Presence is the real, secret final boss of the game. Defeating it reveals a third, secret ending.
Now, I'm not entirely sure why eating the umbilical cords makes you immune to Great One adoption. I don't have an answer to that question. But it does.
What Maxor is referring to is the fact that one of the umbilical cords you can get does, in fact, require you to follow through with a question chain that eventually results in a crazy woman who is kidnapping and experimenting on children going insane and babbling about having attained some kind of apotheosis, claiming that she is ascending. If you kill her after that, she drops an umbilical cord, which implies that her experiments had resulted in her concieving a hybrid Old One child inside of her. It's possible to mess up this quest, which is, presumably, why the game gives you four "One Third of An Umblical Cord" items, so you can still fight the Moon Presence even if you screw this up.
So no. He's not exaggerating. The lore of Bloodborn is Lovecraft Old Testament Greek Mythology.

I actually defeated the watchdog boss first try severely under-levelled, it took literally 10-15 minutes to kill it, and every attack is a 1 hit kill apparently, but I didn't get hit.
I did the same in Dark Souls II with the sentinel fight, I seem to have a knack for defeating problematic bosses first time and under levelled, but then I have trouble with the "easy" bosses 😿.
I good tip for the game is not rushing in and attacking things, dodge in and out and learn what the attacks are first, spend the first 2 minutes of a boss fight learning the moves. Makes the game a lot easier if you can dodge all the attacks, except Rom... you just get hit by fucking spiders coming at you from behind dive bombing you.

Bloodborne is incredible, easily in my top 3 games. It's just a shame that it's only for PS4. The atmosphere of the game is seriously the best done eldritch horror I've ever seen, like the game starts off fairly innocuous with beastmen monsters and gradually spirals down into the nastiest slimiest abominations the devs could imagine as you dig deeper and deeper into the horrible history of the city of Yharnam.
Apart from the lore, the combat is definitely the best part of the game. It's tight, fluid, extremely precise, and it really does turn into a sort of intricate dance with whatever you're fighting as you learn their attack patterns and movements.
Okay I'm editing this because I gotta talk about how when my wife beat Bloodborne, for the Orphan of Kos fight, she summoned a player to help, and this guy with the username batman123456789 showed up and gave the Orphan of Kos an absolutely BRUTAL curbstomping, just completely annihilated it like he was specifically built for that, I don't think he even got hit once by it. MONTHS LATER, I played through the game, and when I got to Orphan of Kos, the SAME GUY showed up to beat ass again. Anyway, shoutout to batman123456789, a real legend and the Orphan of Kos' worst nightmare.

Kit saying people related to royalty are inbred... ignores the fact that people up until 100-200 years ago lived in their rural villages and rarely ever strayed outside of their town in their entire lives. EVERYONE was inbred and marrying each other's cousins. It wasn't just a royal thing. Everyone alive is the product of inbreeding.

I played this game way too much, even the chalice dungeons and for some wild reason they hid a boss so deep in the shared chalice dungeons that you have to pass the 1 shot bosses to get to her, and said boss is the mother of the invisible infant, "Queen Yharnam" who it goes without saying, is the queen of Yharnam where most of the game is set. She comes complete with bulging pregnant stomach and bloody maternity dress. There is actually an achievement in the game to kill this boss too so if you want to 100% complete all the achievements in the game, you have to go through all of these shared chalice dungeons.
I also want to add, he is 100% right about the DLC, despite there being Ludwig, Maria and the orphan of Kos, 3 of the most difficult bosses I've fought in gaming, I had an easier time killing them than Lawrance. So there is actually 4 of the hardest bosses, just 3 of them are fair and one is just praying you don't get toasted in lava.
Overall, this is one of my favourite games and it would be awesome if they ported it to PC purely for the fact that it might have a more stable net code and allow me to play it a load more with my friends. When we used to play it, we'd hit points where we disconnect more and more until we gave up trying to play through it together.

The game's lore is intentionally confusing due to the Lovecraftian nature of the story, but the are some basic facts generally accepted as true, and Max0r pretty much nails them. My only nitpick is when he said the player is "Tricking women into being impregnated by gods". That does happen, but your character isn't involved.
EDIT: Forgot another nitpick. Max0r calls Rom, the big spider creature, "him". Rom is female.
