    I was bleaching and toning my own hair platinum blonde for 3 years. Decided to start growing my hair out a few months ago, but I hate the harsh transition between the platinum and 2-3 inch brown roots I have. I didn't know what to do and I didn't want to spend a fortune at the salon for color corrections. I still have some lightener and developer. I think this is what I should do!

    Thank you so much for posting this. Everywhere decent around me charges $200+ for baby lights on my fine, thin, shoulder length hair and it never ends up turning out exactly how I want :( I have experience doing my hair at home and I’ve really been wanting to try touching my roots up myself, so I’m grateful you made this tutorial! You make it look easy. I might have to try it this week.

It's wonderful to have someone who is such a fantastic expert at every aspect, cut, colour, curl and style who can show me exactly how to do everything myself and save a small fortune! So glad to find your gem of a channel, thanks for posting and for such fantastic instructions.

    Thanks. I always do mine and it turns out pretty much like this. I haven’t done a lot in about 8yrs now so this helped me refresh my memory. I might make a video for beginners w no professional training. An old friend I had taught me how to do foils. I can’t pay people to do my hair they alway make it yellow they mess it up and make look stupid. Ugh so frustrating to have to my own waist long hair.

  • @BrookieMonster1313
    @BrookieMonster1313 3 роки тому +1

    YES!! Last time I did mine, I painted FORWARD for the back sections and it was SO much easier. I also have a mirror on my back wall - so like that picture behind you in my bathroom, is another mirror I hung... it takes some getting used to because everything is flipped, but it makes it easier to see back there. I'm doing my hair again sometime this week and I'm going to try going side to side like you did. I also prefer more blonde in the front so I'm going to try that technique you did at the very front/bang area (thicker in the front and more fine in the back).

    AH! I just have to comment again - I have been doing my own foil highlights for about 2 years now with the Loreal Frost and Design stuff (I know I know) because it comes with the bleach AND the toner (I've just always been too afraid to go buy the toner, developer and lightener myself from Sally's or Amazon)... I have been watching videos for the same amount of time - about two years and after watching THIS, I finally feel comfortable and will pick up the same products you've mentioned...(my natural color is same as yours and similar-ish texture). I've heard really good things about the Lange products, so will be picking that up too. THANK YOU!!!!

    This turned out beautiful! I love L’ange’s tools, I can’t live without their straightening brush, but I’m not sold when it comes to their products and the ingredients, especially the ones that really count. For example the repairing conditioner, the first 4 ingredients are water, alcohol, mineral oil and fragrance and the very last two ingredients are the ones that repair the hair...I’d have to say there are better salon quality products out there.🤷🏼‍♀️

    I'm glad I came across this! I recently allowed my red hair to fully fade so that I can start going to a blonder shade...I went to the salon and let them know that I have grey hair and to eliminate the biweekly coloring, I would like to go blonde so that I can stretch it out a couple more weeks...well...somehow I ended up with a very dark brown 'shadow root' -ugh- with beautifull dimensional blonde hair everywhere else. I NEED to blend this out a bit since it counteracts my end goal of lower maintenance and enjoying a new blonde look. :) Plus, I just feel very awkward with this dark brown root area....Your video is GREAT!

    • @JamiSwanBeauty
      @JamiSwanBeauty  4 роки тому

      Lorrie Hess hmm wonder why they decided to go with a dark shadow root and not just highlight???
      Your idea is definitely the way to go for lower maintenance I just always tell people to do it gradual and with good reconstructing products as you go to maintain the health of your hair as you go through the process of lightening your hair. I’d definitely suggest a good purple shampoo too to cut any warmth or brass between highlighting 😁Good luck with the process change us always fun! 👍🏼

    I love this video so much, thank you! I am a bit confused though as your finished highlights look much lighter than a level 7, they look more like a 9-10. I looked up the color chart for the Matrix Socolor you used and 7A also looked like a much darker blonde. Can you explain why yours is so much lighter? Thank you so much!

    • @JamiSwanBeauty
      @JamiSwanBeauty  4 роки тому +1

      Ashley Haddock sorry I didn’t see this sooner. It looks much lighter because I lift it passed a 7 then only leave it on long enough for it to deposit enough color to cancel the warmth. If I left it on for the full time it would deposit fully and look more like a 7

    Omg! You are sooo good.. I love your hair!! I've been contemplating doing a shadow root on my blonde hair since Rona made its appearance during Spring Break. I have soooo many different hair colors, she's, toners, you name it, I got it! About 5 years ago I did my hair with no problems or hesitation, but for some reason I've lost all my confidence in my skills for getting my hair to look exactly how I wanted it and I enjoyed doing it, even though a couple times I had to make an ER appt with my hair girl... :( I'm so sick of feeling ugly and I know if I could just get my hair to look similiar to your end result here, I would feel a helluva lot better about myself and be back on top of the world again ;) thank you love for this video! Could I purchase a 10AV or 11A toner to keep it light? Or does it need to be the 7A? Thanks!

      Sorry missed this you could yup I just prefer a 7a on myself because the lower the level the more ash tones in the color to counter the warmth

    When you add the volume developer 20 and 40 to the matrix you dont specify oz's, measurement of the volume developer. Please let me know I have porous hair too what do you recommend?

    Hi Jami, I love your color my hair used to be light as yours but I decided to dye it to medium brown. Now I really miss my blonde. I want to balayage my hair which developer percentage would you recommend for someone who is a level 6?

    How do you touch up roots on highlights? Wouldn't you have to very carefully pick out the pieces you last highlighted and only do the roots on those pieces?

    Fantastic guide for diy highlights! Must say Iwas a little shocked w/the 7A toner but after you added the face framers it became such a pretty shimmerlicious champagne blonde🤍Awesome to find a responsible, talented colorist sharing an easy diy taking the integrity of the hair into consideration! Ashy blonde highlights without the glossy just looks witchity wickedy whack-lol!

      Thank you!! My natural color matches 6-1 in Schwartzkoff or 6A in matrix. I’m not familiar with wella but try a level 6 ash in their line

    Do you think this would work if you have root... and then another redish brown color from a previous balayage type look and then the blonde? I’m not sure how the redish brown will lighten compared to the root
