I was bleaching and toning my own hair platinum blonde for 3 years. Decided to start growing my hair out a few months ago, but I hate the harsh transition between the platinum and 2-3 inch brown roots I have. I didn't know what to do and I didn't want to spend a fortune at the salon for color corrections. I still have some lightener and developer. I think this is what I should do!
Thank you so much for posting this. Everywhere decent around me charges $200+ for baby lights on my fine, thin, shoulder length hair and it never ends up turning out exactly how I want :( I have experience doing my hair at home and I’ve really been wanting to try touching my roots up myself, so I’m grateful you made this tutorial! You make it look easy. I might have to try it this week.
I am so lucky, you have my exact hair type!! It's wonderful to have someone who is such a fantastic expert at every aspect, cut, colour, curl and style who can show me exactly how to do everything myself and save a small fortune! So glad to find your gem of a channel, thanks for posting and for such fantastic instructions.
Love it, so pretty! Coming from a hairstylist myself, I’m always doing my hair myself at home too. Between Clients all day then running home to kids. No time for myself in the salon chair! Love the back area weave tip. Hardest part! You rock!
hey! Just followed this last night and did my hair. came out AMAZING!! it was definitely hard to see what I was doing on myself but it came out great for the circumstances. thank you!
Thank you! This is the easiest tutorial I have found so far. I have spent over $1000 trying to get my hair the way I want it by professionals and am going to try myself to save money and learn how to get it how I really want.
Thanks. I always do mine and it turns out pretty much like this. I haven’t done a lot in about 8yrs now so this helped me refresh my memory. I might make a video for beginners w no professional training. An old friend I had taught me how to do foils. I can’t pay people to do my hair they alway make it yellow they mess it up and make look stupid. Ugh so frustrating to have to my own waist long hair.
Thats it Im going in with the bleach again 🤣🤣 I have about 7 inches of growth now so Im a little terriffied Im gonna mess up but the back forward technique has me sOlD ! Thank you for this inspiration lovely!! 💙
Love this icy blonde, this would go great with my salt & pepper hair I'm trying to grow out but in my area its hard to find a good colorist 😢. Luv, Luv it so much, very beautiful!
YES!! Last time I did mine, I painted FORWARD for the back sections and it was SO much easier. I also have a mirror on my back wall - so like that picture behind you in my bathroom, is another mirror I hung... it takes some getting used to because everything is flipped, but it makes it easier to see back there. I'm doing my hair again sometime this week and I'm going to try going side to side like you did. I also prefer more blonde in the front so I'm going to try that technique you did at the very front/bang area (thicker in the front and more fine in the back).
AH! I just have to comment again - I have been doing my own foil highlights for about 2 years now with the Loreal Frost and Design stuff (I know I know) because it comes with the bleach AND the toner (I've just always been too afraid to go buy the toner, developer and lightener myself from Sally's or Amazon)... I have been watching videos for the same amount of time - about two years and after watching THIS, I finally feel comfortable and will pick up the same products you've mentioned...(my natural color is same as yours and similar-ish texture). I've heard really good things about the Lange products, so will be picking that up too. THANK YOU!!!!
You make it look so easy and I love your hair!! I can't wait to try this technique. I did my own foils for the other day, not bad for a first attempt and will know what to do for next time :)
Jen Wright aw thanks so much for the kind words and good work on doing your own foils!! Always fun to switch up the foil pattern especially if you’re like me and don’t stray to far from blonde hahaha it’s nice to get subtle change from how to place the foils in your hair each time ☺️
Love the lighter coloring technique in front. Perfect tutorial, so easy to follow. Including where you messed up last time was so helpful so I didn't make same mistake! Hair turned out great with little effort! Thank you!!
Absolutely Love your tutorial ! Im going to try it. I cant get the hair salon to be consistent with my haircolor ughhh Can you please write the recipe afraid to get it wrong, Please ❤. Also Love your makeup so natural and beautiful what is the eyeshadow color and the lipstick color? I'm so excited!!🎉
This turned out beautiful! I love L’ange’s tools, I can’t live without their straightening brush, but I’m not sold when it comes to their products and the ingredients, especially the ones that really count. For example the repairing conditioner, the first 4 ingredients are water, alcohol, mineral oil and fragrance and the very last two ingredients are the ones that repair the hair...I’d have to say there are better salon quality products out there.🤷🏼♀️
@@Izzywizzy74 I have them as well- I don't care for them after spending a LOT of money on them... I bought them long before I saw this video and when I saw her using them I wanted to curse! Thank you also for posting. I'm glad I came across this! I recently allowed my red hair to fully fade so that I can start going to a blonder shade...I went to the salon and let them know that I have grey hair and to eliminate the biweekly coloring, I would like to go blonde so that I can stretch it out a couple more weeks...well...somehow I ended up with a very dark brown 'shadow root' -ugh- with beautifull dimensional blonde hair everywhere else. I NEED to blend this out a bit since it counteracts my end goal of lower maintenance and enjoying a new blonde look. :) Plus, I just feel very awkward with this dark brown root area....Your video is GREAT!
Lorrie Hess hmm wonder why they decided to go with a dark shadow root and not just highlight??? Your idea is definitely the way to go for lower maintenance I just always tell people to do it gradual and with good reconstructing products as you go to maintain the health of your hair as you go through the process of lightening your hair. I love this video so much, thank you! I am a bit confused though as your finished highlights look much lighter than a level 7, they look more like a 9-10. I looked up the color chart for the Matrix Socolor you used and 7A also looked like a much darker blonde. Can you explain why yours is so much lighter? Thank you so much!
Ashley Haddock sorry I didn’t see this sooner. It looks much lighter because I lift it passed a 7 then only leave it on long enough for it to deposit enough color to cancel the warmth. If I left it on for the full time it would deposit fully and look more like a 7

Jami I love love your hair! Do you have a video from start , the technique that you have is it a balayage and do you have a video I've looked and looked? I really need to know it's absolutely stunning!
Hi- I ended up purchasing the Matrix light master as you show in your video. I noticed that the instructions say to never process more than 10 mins which seems crazy considering it takes far longer than 10 mins for a professional stylist to apply highlights. Did yours stay in longer than 10 mins??
Hey Jamie😘 love your tutorial! I’m really looking for a change!! With covid as bad as it’s been, I now have hair down past my bra strap. I have a lot of hair but is fine and have 10 inches of roots”YUCK” love your color, style & cut😍 we roughly have the same skin tone and natural color. What do you recommend? I don’t expect miracles LOL!! I catch on pretty well and actually groom dogs for a living so I have tons of patience.
When you add the volume developer 20 and 40 to the matrix you dont specify oz's, measurement of the volume developer. Please let me know I have porous hair too what do you recommend?
Move over X Mondo!!! You made this look too stinking easy and it's literally the color I've been after for two years now. I'm putting in a Sally's order now to pick up tomorrow so let's see how it goes!
Hi Jami, I love your color my hair used to be light as yours but I decided to dye it to medium brown. Now I really miss my blonde. I want to balayage my hair which developer percentage would you recommend for someone who is a level 6?
How do you touch up roots on highlights? Wouldn't you have to very carefully pick out the pieces you last highlighted and only do the roots on those pieces?
Fantastic guide for diy highlights! Must say Iwas a little shocked w/the 7A toner but after you added the face framers it became such a pretty shimmerlicious champagne blonde🤍Awesome to find a responsible, talented colorist sharing an easy diy taking the integrity of the hair into consideration! Ashy blonde highlights without the glossy just looks witchity wickedy whack-lol!
I would like to darken my roots similar to yours (shadow root & back of my hair).. I am between a level 8-10 with a little orangish pigment.. What wella demiperminet colors coould I use? You have it gorgeous.. I absolutely love it.. PLEASE HELP WITH SUGGESTIONS FOR I DONT WANT IT TO COME OUT RED BUT LOVE THE DARK ROOTS WITH THE BLONDE~ THANK YOU ❤️
Do you think this would work if you have root... and then another redish brown color from a previous balayage type look and then the blonde? I’m not sure how the redish brown will lighten compared to the root

YEAH!!! I love your ash and I also love L'Ange and have been wanting to try their toning shampoo out!!! My new favorite sub!!!!!
Aw thanks so much!! You will love the toning shampoo it’s so good!
@@JamiSwanBeauty So are you mixing the L'Ange Creme Brulee Keratin Conditioner and L'Ange Violet shampoo together??
What toner is on the blonde? It's gorgeous
Can i found those products at Sallys?
What are the equivalents?
TIA
When you add the volume developer 20 and 40 to the matrix you dont specify oz's, measurement of the volume developer. Please let me know I have porous hair too what do you recommend?
Super stunning - wow! Thank you!
Move over X Mondo!!! You made this look too stinking easy and it's literally the color I've been after for two years now. I'm putting in a Sally's order now to pick up tomorrow so let's see how it goes!
Ooooo 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Good luck!! 😃
You're D best seriously
Aw thanks so much!!! Glad you liked it!!
Hi Jami, I love your color my hair used to be light as yours but I decided to dye it to medium brown. Now I really miss my blonde. I want to balayage my hair which developer percentage would you recommend for someone who is a level 6?
How do you touch up roots on highlights? Wouldn't you have to very carefully pick out the pieces you last highlighted and only do the roots on those pieces?
beautiful colour
I absolutely love this, this saved me
Lavender Hamilton oh yay I’m glad it was helpful!
Fantastic tutorial
Thank you!
Patricia
I would like to darken my roots similar to yours (shadow root & back of my hair).. I am between a level 8-10 with a little orangish pigment.. What wella demiperminet colors coould I use? You have it gorgeous.. I absolutely love it.. PLEASE HELP WITH SUGGESTIONS FOR I DONT WANT IT TO COME OUT RED BUT LOVE THE DARK ROOTS WITH THE BLONDE~ THANK YOU ❤️
Thank you!! My natural color matches 6-1 in Schwartzkoff or 6A in matrix. I’m not familiar with wella but try a level 6 ash in their line
Yey! I loved your past video similar to this this is sooo good!!
It came out really nice. Why did you use 20 and 40 developer, at the beginning?
20+40 mixed in equal parts makes 30vol
Hiii Jami !! Your hair is super gorgeous
What country are you in?
Do you think this would work if you have root... and then another redish brown color from a previous balayage type look and then the blonde? I’m not sure how the redish brown will lighten compared to the root
