I just finished up one with the double barn doors too, I made it with salvaged plywood and poor mans fiberglass, for windows etc, I salvaged them from an old camper shell...love your build!
Awesome! Curious what "poor mans fiberglass" is? Sounds like a material I need in my tool kit! Haha. Also, salvaging windows from old campers is the way to go! Thanks for checking out the build!
@@dirtbagdopamine7964 hi poor man's fiberglass is a heavy canvas like duck cloth or a painters drop cloth glueded down on the surface with titebond 2. Dude, LOVED the tours. Loved calling out the 2x4 overkill. I had a mini truck back in the 80s with a camper shell and carpet kit. I miss it. I'm going to build one for my 2003 Taco-ma very similar to yours. Thank you for sharing the weight of your shell as well. People need to know these don't need to weigh 3000 pounds.
Right on, Adam! Sounds like your 80s mini truck was a rad rig! Glad you appreciated the frame/weight aspects. I think people assume most homemade campers are framed with 2x4, and thus think they're heavy. But Max goes to show, you can do it light and still have it be strong! I'll dive into the frame and construction in the next video. Thanks for following!
I Have a 2000 toyota sienna and a 2004 ford ranger. I have been going back-n- forth in my mind witch one to build for a few months. After viewing hundreds of UA-cam videos try to get ideas on builds for minivans and pick-up trucks I have never found anything thing that really interests me until I just saw your videos. You did an awesome job! I really dig your build! So I have decided to build something like yours for my ranger. Many thanks for posting.
So stoked to hear this, Paul! I went through a similar process. Saw so many builds on youtube that looked unpractical to me, then decided just to design my own. This one came out light, strong, and totally competent, so I hope you use some of the techniques! Next video will cover frame and basic construction. Good luck with the ranger build!
Love it! Looking forward to future build videos. My teenage daughter and I are just starting a large camper build on our '73 F100. Unfortunately, we're in a huge hurry and don't have time to document it. Hope to share any knowledge we gain through the build with anyone that could benefit from what learn along the way though.
Awesome, D'Andra! Would love to see your build when it's finished. a '73 ford sounds SO COOL! Keep that engine in good condition! Next video coming soon, please comment with any questions or to share your build!

Great Work 👍….looking forward to the next video regarding the build. Just returned from a 2 month cross country trip in my 1st gen RAV4. I have a 1987 Suzuki Samurai that I’m considering for my next trip to Alaska . I like your build and might do something like this to the Samurai. Great Build 👍👍😎 PS got a laugh out of the TP😂😂😂
Thanks Jack! Stoked to hear from you. Sounds like an amazing trip in the RAV4! Also, Samurais are so rad, would love to see what you come up with for the build! Hahaha the tp... Putting out another vid for the camper series next week. For now, here's the interior tour:ua-cam.com/video/HImjW2mP4O8/v-deo.html Cheers
Curious how cold your winters are? I want to do a similar build, but I live in Canada where winter temperatures dip below -40. I'd be installing a heater or stove of some sort, but thinking i'd need more insulation.
Thanks Dag! The 2x4 footer at the base of the camper frame sits on top of the bed walls, and it's bolted straight through the rails of the truck. So I did have to drill holes in the top of the bed rails, but they're covered by the camper. It's an old work truck anyway, so I'm not too worried about the damage, and like knowing my camper ain't going anywhere I don't want it to, haha.
To clarify-it's a joke that was given to me as a gift. Simply utilitarian, could care less who's photo is on the paper! Wish you nothing but the best, Randy, sorry you're gonna miss out!
I use a small propane heater called the Mr. Buddy. Some people frown upon propane heaters because they tend to create moisture, but I've never had an issue. Doesn't take much to insulate, and with the 1" polyiso it stays pretty warm. Important to ventilate while using the heater though, so I crack a window and the vent fan to get some circulation. Works like a charm! Here's a link to the heater: amzn.to/3gSivrb If you end up buying one, please use that link and I'll get kicked down a little comish at no added cost to you. Cheers!
I thought about it, but don't need it at this point. The Mr. Buddy propane heater does the trick for me. There is some concern about the moisture it creates, but I ventilate while using it and haven't had any issues. I've heard diesel heaters are the way to go though if you need something beefier.

Right!? I forget who (because I’ve watched so many) but someone did a build and said they regret doing 2x4. They wish they’d done 2x2
That was the simplest most creative built I saw in recent times
You have no idea how much stoke this brings me. I'm glad you appreciate it! Simple is the key!
Just bought my truck first vehicle upgrade in 8 years!😅 going to be building soon, that go pro would definitely help document the experience!

Top of bed wall to ceiling is 34". Ceiling to bed floor is 50". Plenty of head room for me sitting on the bed. Hope that helps!

Do u charge work tools in it. They have a deal they use your drill battery to power 12 volt lights and different 12 volt stuff
I have charged tool batteries on it, but tend not to. This is a 600 watt DC-AC converter and it's a little weak. I'd recommend going 1000 watt +.

Nice build, and although I don't mind it on the interior, the exterior wood is impractical, unnecessary, heavy, costly, but most of all ... ugly.
Nice
