if you use a hard rubber flotat right after you put on the stucco to compact it, then use your green float, you won't have that separation. also, if you apply the bonding agent directly to the existing stucco instead of mixing it with your mud, you'll get a much better bond. I'm guessing that has already formed a crack.

Love it! I plan to DIY patch my stucco near the corner of my 1966 Oakland hills home, due to settlement over the decades. I believe I stopped the main cause of the settlement - downspout dumping massive amounts of water directly into the foundation at that corner of the house - so assuming that there's not too much movement between the dry and rainy seasons going forward, I'm hoping my patch will not re-crack for ~10 years. This area get's almost no traffic so an amateur job, which is how every first DIY job ends up looking, won't be a big problem.

    Another great job!
Thats a good stucco recipe but that rapid set is over priced but at the same time cant do without it .
I wonder what man would use a two foot pool trowel to do a patch 😂😁👍

question.. i have to do this for my dad and there is not an existing chicken wire there already what should i do?

Do you have solid backing or is it open? Is there existing paper there?? You have to cut the new wire in two, shove it in the hole as far back behind the existing stucco on both sides of the repair, then tie wire the two sections back together in the middle. Let me know if you need anything else

Oops, I watched to the ens - you did show the prep. Question. Does the mesh you used require fastening on small repairs?

    • @AbersonPlastering

Hi. Oh wow you did see the metal going on. Okay here is the thing. You don’t ever have to use fasteners as long as you tie the new wire in with the old wire.

So i would just rapid set to the stucco mix? I need to repair the stucco on my house because husband attempted to fix the cracks, but looks like he just threw a bunch of caulking on the wall😡🤬

Well he did the right thing. When it comes to cracks. Small cracks anyway caulking is the way to go because it expands. But if your finger isn’t bleeding after caulking several cracks you probably didn’t do it right.

Dont be nasty Ken, pool trowel guy wouldnt be happy with that comment.
But then he would be talking so much he probably wouldnt have picked up on that any way lol
Anyway there are lots of different materials out there today then when i was involved.
But they are just some type of an excellerator mixed in with the portland cement.
For interior patching we would put a small amount of portland cement in with the structo lite brown coat.
And it would set up just like the stuff your using and allowed for a follow up with a high gauged white coat on the same day.
Good when we were replacing old wood lath ceilings and didnt want to involve waiting for it to set and dry out.

Yes and I never really had the opportunity to do gauge lime and plaster. I’ve used diamond wall over blue board, and over expanded metal lath. That was done by the old timers in hospitals and prisons, government buildings airports etcetera right? That is usually done by union plasterers right? Much of that was done before my time. State of the art high end plaster on commercial businesses, Luxury homes, hotels and even in the most humble mobile homes are going with Italian veneers. It’s kind of casual work but it is stressful. I like a more casual environment outdoors that pays better. The interior plaster finishes are priced high and often make tons of money, but it takes time and money to earn it. If you are an interior guru then you have a niche in say cities like San Francisco. Ugh the traffic and fuel costs. Sitting at 30 stoplights throughout the day
