I use both. The Stucco MIX has more coarse aggregate and is a MIX of scratch coat and brown coat used to do quick wall repairs where the metal lath is exposed and more strength is needed. The Stucco PATCH has much finer aggregate and more Portland cement and is meant for PATCHING spalled or surface-damaged stucco. It is more of a finish type mortar and is also formulated to hold better on vertical applications, hence the name PATCH.

Sounds like there's a trade off of strength (mix) vs adhering ability (patch).

Is this the brand whose Stucco Mix sets really really fast in warm weather ? I don't remember the brand, but I did use some random big big box store 'Stucco Mix' that was light beige and mixed it in a wheel barrow in late summer, and oh boy, I did mix it like a thin soup and went to get sand to mix in so that it wouldn't be so thin and by the time I came back (less than 5 min) the thing was very stiff and getting rock hard, but I don't remember the brand as the bag was badly damaged.

It is not as easy to use as a finish coat. It looks too stiff. you got short work time..Also wet the wall, or prime it. But it works well. Maybe add a bit of cement to make it stickier...or mix about 1/4 of the Stucco Patch. You should JUST MIST it. Watch a few Kirk Giordano videos ;-)

I’m having the same problem right now. It’s ending up like it was wet sand. Throw it at someone and it breaks into chunks. It’s not sticking. Feel like I have to double the water the instructions say but then it’s too thin.

You over did it when you started adding more mix I understand you probably like it a bit dry but that product is also a rapid set so it’s suppose to be slapped on and dry and cure quickly so the more you add the shorter the application time it’s like using 5 minute mud it hardens in no time

I think people need to read the directions on the package. I use the Rapid set(CTS) products all the time and they are great! In this case no misting on the patch is only for 70 degrees F and below with no wind.....Above 70F you need to mist it for an hour or so because these products get really hot and will crack without misting to keep cool. and, of course get the surface damp before applying.
Also: Rapid set has no portland cement in it nor should you ad Portland. This is calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) cement. Rapid set also makes small additive packages to slow the setting time of their products if it is too warm outside and you need extra time. They also make flow control packets that are like magic for pouring into forms using their other products.

I might suggest using a bonding agent when mixing with the CTS yellow 45

is there a difference between rapidest mortar mix and rapidest stucco mix? perhap the sand or appearance? our home depot is running low on stucco mix and i'm considering using mortar mix. i'm wondering if it might have more of a rough sandy appearance.

Yes Big difference. If you want more detail I am sure Rapidset has a tech. support line.

@@KenTraining no one answers. i take it the stucco patch is much finer than the mortar mix.

Your trying to trowel the Stucco Mix or Patch to a wet wall. The wall should be SSD ( Saturated Surface Dry ) , Should look like it rained an hour ago, NO water sheen. Should trowel on very easily then. I've done a lot of these using both of these products and also Cement All, it also works great. I retired from CTS Cement , the people who make Rapid Set.

17:34 Troweling downward causes the squeegeed material to fall on the ground =waste. Troweling upward catches/pushes the material ahead of the trowel for a more complete application.
    20:09 FINALLY!

The instruction tell you how much water to how much stucco patch.

Stucco Mix and the patch are 2 totally different products. If you watch Kirk Gerodiono, I probably spelled the last name wrong. He goes very in-depth on all sorts of products. Know what your products are to fit your application.
You said you get what you pay for, which is not totally correct in this application. you are comparing oranges to apples. They both have their application and uses. It seems you are trying to use them in the same way. Which is not working.

I see what your saying. In my case, I was trying to skim coat an existing wall. the Rapidset Stucco Mix just does not stick to the wall like the patch in this case. If I had a chicken wire new install or a was applying to a scratch coat with the grooves for the mix to catch, the stucco mix may have worked.

Over analyzed the shit out if it
Get a scoop fir one, trowel in exposed block wall complete, wait a bit and feather in the joint with sponge....that is a really simple patch....use 1 material and keep it simple.......could have used spec mix and been fine....by time you filled everything the beginning would be ready to float

I can't believe you.. your obviously super novice and do not follow directions. You made this look way harder than it is. And stop pulling down the mix. Go up and to the right. And the mix is way to heavy. It's supposed to be soupy. 😊I hope you learned from this
