In 1984 at only 21 yrs old, I worked as a live-in nanny with a very wealthy family and my fashion style was set for life. A few other critical pieces: classic leather handbags, gold hoop earrings, bangle bracelets, and manicured nails. Quality fabrics that are properly maintained are critical, and always quality over quantity. I always feel my best when I follow these style guidelines.
Agree with you - it does not really matter if you have all the 'old money' looking clothes - it will not pass if the material is not good quality, no marks/stains, no loose threads or missing buttons, and also people need to examine the seams. No quality garment is badly seamed, and are cut well so there are no incorrectly cut pieces in the garment. From your post you know exactly what I mean.
@@user-rz9rq7pp2b What reasoning are you using to deduce that because a person is careful over the quality of the garments they buy that that person has been denied creativity?

Blazer 11. Trench coat 12. Loafers or ballet flats 13. Low sandal or slide 14. Classic jewelry 15. Red lipstick 16. Classic belt Thank you! Great advice. God bless you!
Isn't it the best choice if we can wear clothes for 10 months of the year? I like the basic design that doesn't go out of fashion to suit any situation!
A grey blazer is an alternative for those who don't like black. It's very classic and it goes well with black, white, navy, blue, army green, brown and probably many other colours. A well cut blazer in the colour army green that does not contain to much yellow, can give a very elegant effect, that darker army green colour is a neutral and goes very well with black, grey, cream, and any shade of beige, khaki or taupe.
Definitely, good leather footwear, belts and handbags are a must for this look. Silk scarves, too. I love this look because it’s classic and timeless. My inspiration is Ralph Lauren in the late 70s and early 80s. A good windbreaker, I like white, and boating shoes or clean white sneakers, are essential for boating. I’m always ready with these if I get offered a day’s sailing on chilly San Francisco Bay!
Thank you Anna. I have a capsule classic wardrobe. I wish I would have known all this information when I was younger because I had a hard time when I got to my 40s on what to wear I had gained a little menopausal weight and was about 20 pounds heavier than I am now, these UA-cam videos have really helped me, get that classic old money look. I am not old money I’m old and have money. Ha ha ha😊
I wanted to transition into my 40’s with grace (I’m now 44) when I was in my late 30’s (same reason) and have been adding classic pieces to my wardrobe ever since. I was going for 1930’s rich woman on holiday in Italy or Rome. I’m not old money either but it’s fun (and comfortable) to pretend.
No, it’s not. Preppy style is a particular style, with colorful prints and is prevalent in places like Connecticut or Palm Beach. It’s often quirky and colorful. What people are calling “old money” is often muted in colors and relies heavily on neutrals. In reality, rich people are diverse and have distinct styles, and these trends are amusing to the extent they presume there’s a dominant aesthetic based on people’s wealth. Wealthy people often don’t care, can indulge in loud luxury (I consider Birkins to be conspicuous consumption), and don’t necessarily have superior style to other people. In fact, fashionistas who thrift and dress in colors other than nudes, are often more fashionable. There’s also classic pieces, which again aren’t necessarily old money. These fashion labels really are just marketing.
The Ralph Lauren cable knit sweaters I love , I've got a few of them . But anyone thinking of buying them , then definitely size up , they run somewhat small . Just an Fyi 😊
Two Anna videos close together..love it. Loved all your styles but thought of my mom ( she died at the age of forty nine) she always told us girls if you don’t wear any thing else wear lipstick. She had black hair, was Italian and only had red lipstick and it looked fabulous on her. I used to not buy button downs but since losing a little weight they don’t gap in the bust and I have enjoyed buying some new ones, especially a gauzy white long sleeve shirt I really like. Thanks Anna.
Rita, I have never NOT worn a button down long sleeved shirt/blouse even when I was carrying more weight. The trick is get one that is a size larger than than the one you think you "should" wear. That will prevent the bust gap without the safety pin 🧷 trick. Then tailor the side seams. I am familiar with your issue having been over 200 lbs at my heaviest. Now at 125 +/- 5 lbs, I no longer have to deal with this.
I have a larger bust too since becoming a mom 30 some yrs ago and it’s a pain when the buttons gap. I like the ones with the concealed placket hiding the buttons.
I would add: white jeans and a white knit, collared “polo” top. The collar elevates the style from a t-shirt, but is just as comfortable. We have cool, foggy mornings and sometimes evenings in the summer, so I continue wearing blazers, but unlined cotton or linen ones, or those with cotton or rayon linings, not poly. I always feel good in a blazer, they add structure to my straight shape and help me fake a waist.
Hello Anna! Love your content & tips. As we are entering the sweltering heat & humidity of the South for 2023, can you do a video on style in extreme heat? It is a challenge to find daily wear items that keep you cool that are not crop tops/ beach attire etc and are fashionable. Transitioning from outdoor heat, to freezing cold AC (especially restaurants) is also a concern here in Florida. Thank you in advance.
I love your presentation, always kind and fun and practical. I was very much preppy back in high school and college in the early 80’s. Polo shirt, Guess jeans, boat shoes, leather ballet flats, tennis sweater, wool blazer were staples.
Thank you, this is my everyday style as well. These are the pieces I need: pure wool cable knit sweater, tailored shorts, white dress and nude sandals.
I agree with all the things you listed. I think for me, the old money style is also all about the materials. Wool, cashmere, silk, leather... Well coordinated colours with a colourpop sometimes, but nothing that's screaming in your face.
Very useful video, I like the tip at the end about taking everything out of your closet and only put the relevant pieces for the look back in the closet, very helpful and less confusing when getting dressed
I always look forward to your videos. They are always informative along with the extra perk of your refreshing and entertaining personality. Keep them coming!
I just adore trenchcoats! Had my first one when I was 12 attending school in London and lost it the first week on a bus 🥹now I have about 5 of them so chic lol
For not-super-heavy cabled sweaters, in warmer seasons linen may be a good choice. Brooks Brothers has one in ecru and one in a pale blue that I've seen in person and they are gorgeous.
The colors I love to wear are black, white, gray, navy, and a little red. Normally, I don’t choose patterns. This spring I broadened my horizons. I just ordered a few pieces of Lilly Pulitzer. They look fun and summery. We’ll see how it looks!
I finally invested in a platform wedge sandal to replace my flip flops. Not only do I look better but they are 100 times more comfortable than flip flops!
Just started watching your channel & have learned so much already - thank you! Would love a video that goes over the different styles of bottoms & what shoes work best 👟👠
Thank you Anna, this video came at a time when I need it the most. A perfect capsule to star afresh after life altering circumstances that led to weigh gain. Regardless, I ‘m always appreciative of your content ❤
I think to add navy little dress, its even more fits these aesthetics than black, or could be both. I have way too many LBD , so i am adding navy one😜 i am thinking to add shorts. I havent worn shorts for quite awhile. I was watching new RL collection. They have nice ones, not too short and not too long, but quite expensive right now, i might going to get them later, when they go on sale or end up on some second hand websites. Its just i dont know if shorts are my thing anymore , so dont feel like to invest all that money at full price🤔 Have a blessed day🙏💗
I went to a women in academia conference as a grad student and the first speaker told us never to apologize for our work before someone hears it and that has stayed with me my whole career.
This really is just a classic preppy style to me. Maybe at certain price points it may get into old money. I love it.. definitely will be wearable for many years
I have mostly button up collared shirts they are my favorite! Linen, cotton and polyester ones. Im not a trend follower at all. I shop everywhere I look at the quality of the fabric
Another essential to the look is accessories, like scarves. A scarf can beneficial for numerous reasons like, color, outfit elevation, warmth and comfort.
Excellent list! You really helped me to define what's missing from my wardrobe. I truly appreciate your authenticity. Unlike one of your competitors, who shows beautiful outfits but very high priced ($400 for a blouse?)which makes me feel discouraged, your suggestions are very reasonably acquired. For the budget concious like me, I suggest (as you did) thredUp, Poshmark, and similar sites where top brands can be had very affordably. Thank you, you're my classic clothing guru now!
This is by far my most favorite video ❤ Someone just called me white trash at Target when my son was crying. It has bothered me ever since and it must have been because I had on my daily yoga pants and tshirt. My husband and I work hard and are wealthy, this definitely would be a style I want to wear. This gives me great ideas to purchase some pieces, as well as is making me want to start wearing real clothes everyday and not just when we are going out.
Omg… calling you names - very uncalled for! We have allll been at Target with a screaming child. Don’t let that kind of thing get to you you’re doing great ❤️❤️❤️
Mean people …don’t get it. Our priest Sunday said he did not mind children crying, dancing or laughing during service because he said he loves children and he said Jesus loved children . Don’t pay attention to jean people. ❤❤❤❤
Excellent list, I would also add oversized sunglasses, slides in neutral colours and last but not least, quality structured handbags in neutral colours ( camel, beige, brown, black... preferably leather)
Thanks Anna for sharing. I would say not "old money" but classy timeless fashion over trendy fashion. We may save lot of money not just been too trendy. ❤❤
Don't forget a polo shirt or two, a quality leather bag, small to med hoop earrings, pearl earrings and a nice gold bracelet. No flip flops for street wear, only on the beach.
I actually think ‘old money’ aesthetic is just another way of saying ‘class’ or ‘good taste’. The brilliance of classic pieces that fit, and suit your body is that they all match each other so perfectly t gives you an entire - lasting - wardrobe.
Many of my clothes are now out of style which is so frustrating. I now want to make sure I mostly get classic timeless pieces that will make me look and feel classy.
I'm a red lipstick person! I may not always wear a full-blown red lip but I'd dab it on my lips and blend it to give the lips a red hue which looks very beautiful!
I would think hunter style boots, sweater vests or tailored vests can compliment this old money style as well. I’m thinking Nautica, Polo or Gap fits this aesthetic well. I’m imagining a unisex type of perfume may go well with this style.
Great video! Could you give tips about how to style or wear sweaters or blouses that are not cinched at the waist? I am broad shouldered and 6' tall, and always feel like they make me look bulky, even if I tuck the blouse into my trousers.
Agree with most items in the video, and I feel “ naked” or at least at a loss when one I have to get rid of or don’t fit in one or two of my classy pieces. Like a light colored blazer (always have a navy blue one) , my forever white linen trousers, my linen tailored shorts ( usually in white, linen and khaki) . I feel the white dress was cute but doesn’t cute cut it for classy piece here. Another cut perhaps would work better.
Your look today is one of your best, you look so pretty and love your top. I always think of Jennifer Anniston and I’ve never seen her wearing a red lip. To me it just doesn’t work for everyone. Love all your other ideas tho! 💙
For those of us who live in colder countries, a good quality ‘camel’ coat in cashmere or wool that drapes well, is an essential piece to create this look. (I’m in the UK).
Maybe it’s called “old money” aesthetic because old money buys “classics” (what this style is) so they aren’t blowing money on trends every year or, worse, seasonally! They tend to buy quality items that last years if not decades.
This video popped up and what a great one👍its odd how it’s now a trend when it’s just been classic style for us oldies -60s. Yes to everything except the red lipstick or shorts. Id never wear red lipstick, neither did my mother or relatives, or shorts. A nice straight leg cigarette pant yes. Today is different for you young gals wanting classic or “old money” aesthetic. Living in a hot climate, guess shorts are ok if yr under 25. Love all the looks you show Anna👍

Your look today is one of your best, you look so pretty and love your top. I always think of Jennifer Anniston and I’ve never seen her wearing a red lip. To me it just doesn’t work for everyone. Love all your other ideas tho! 💙
Old money is definitely up my alley, however, I’m in sneakers 99% of the time as I need comfort whenever I leave the house
For those of us who live in colder countries, a good quality ‘camel’ coat in cashmere or wool that drapes well, is an essential piece to create this look. (I’m in the UK).
I would add the classic denim shirt. Collared and tailored, not oversized, not worn, not faded.
OMG! I had old money style when Iwent to Monaco Nice 13 years ago ...
I just love your videos Anna
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰🥰
I don’t miss a day a week #LVGUCI This show..😂😂😂😂
I feel like “old money aesthetic” is just the classic aesthetic with new marketing🤷🏽♀️
Yes, I would call it classic style. "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Another name might be "ladylike". 😉😊
Maybe it’s called “old money” aesthetic because old money buys “classics” (what this style is) so they aren’t blowing money on trends every year or, worse, seasonally! They tend to buy quality items that last years if not decades.
Class is ageless🔮
I guess that my natural own style is this one. I already have all of these pieces in my wardrobe
Hermosos Outfits clásicos me encanta ❤
Stripes are my jam these days..
the aesthetic is quiet luxury. old money is a lifestyle.
Thank you! Much appreciated video! :)

I love it. Thank you.
Great looks, but no skirts? I love classic styling and seem to be gravitating towards them this season. Thank you for a great video!
