    If you think of how much a tripe contain in for example a moose, you see that prepared greens are good for your dog. Were I live, the tripe and its contents is one of the first things a wolf eat of their prey. So cooked or fermented and then purreed veggies seem to be good in bigger quantities than most people thinks. My dogs do plunder my vegetable garden and looks for fruit under the trees all the time. And I don't think its because they are hungry. Ive got herding dogs and live on a farm by the way... 😊

    My dog loves his steamed veggies and it definently helps with his digestion so I try to add some veggies to his meal everyday

    I add one fruit and two veggies into my prep each week, rotating it weekly. I mix the purée with ground beef to disguise it for my picky eater. This is a relatively new step to my weekly prep, but I think it’s good to do.

    My dog eats grass whenever she gets the chance, which makes me see her as a carnivore-plus-grass :) So I do blend up leafy greens with blueberries etc and add it to her food.

    commercial dog food puts veggies in food because they are cheaper as well, right? the nutrients look good on paper but have low bioavailability but i think if we looked at the veggie vs meat cost we would see how they can state high nutrient content and still retain a high profit margin

    Hi! I just discovered your channel and binge watched a lot of videos. They’re so well made and super informative! I’m considering feeding my dog raw but I would like to know if it’s still ok for her to kiss me if feeding raw? I found mixed opinions online so I would like to hear your thoughts. Sorry to ask an irrelevant question under this video. Thank you!

    Feed your dog unsalted seaweed.. The Nori sheets they use for sushi. My dogs will just munch it up dry they love it. Or you can crumble it into their food or wet it and incorporate it into their food. Long list of benefits

    To me it's pretty easy. Dogs are omnivores. Cats are carnivores. Enough said. This is why I choose to feed my dogs a small amount of vegetables several times a month. And absolutely no decision should be made based on what the big brand dry dog food companies want you to think.

    • @jj_hoolio
      @jj_hoolio 2 роки тому +7

      But dogs arent omnivores, lol. As she said, veg needs cooking, pureeing, or both to make nutrients bioavailable, thus, dogs cannot digest them as is, thus, they are not omnivores. Omnivores can get what they needs out of 100% raw food (bears dont build campfires; probably why smokey the bear is the anti-forest fire mascot 😉). Dogs are absolutely carnivorous and a balanced prey model raw will provide them with all they need. Adding plants is (and dont take this personally, yall, its not an attack, its just a statement) an easier way to provide certain nutrients than learning to balance prey model. When it comes to critters, im of the general opinion that easier tends to be worse for them, from their diets to training and behavior, to grooming, socializing, even treating illness and injuries. The easy way is rarely questioned bc why make more work for yourself? But our animals (who cannot resist or ask for better) tend to catch the short end of the stick.

      @@jj_hoolio dogs are omnivores in my opinion. They are descendants of wolves and wolves eat fruits and vegetables and the stomach contents of their prey which also includes digested or partially digested grass weeds etc. They may get minimal nutrition from it but they still eat it. So to me it means that they are omnivore but that they do not need a great deal of vegetation in their diet. But they would benefit from some.

      Dogs need meat but certain vegetables and fruits help and have benefits. If you believe dogs should only live on fruit and veg then feed them some onions and grapes.....(don't actually do this) and I rest my case dogs need a mainly meat diet, dogs can eat any animal on the planet but certain fruit and veg will kill your dog......

      @@nogames8982 dogs also voluntarily eat poop, shoes, diapers, dirt, sticks...it doesnt make it a heapthy part of their diet. Also, when wolves eat things like berries, they pass through them completely undigested. They also dont eat the stomach contents of their herbivorous prey; they open it, dump it out, and eat the meat of the stomach itself.

    When doing research I read that vegetables feed good bacteria in the gut and that can give them a superior immune-system, healthier cells and a longer life. I feed my 11 year old dog a variety of vegetables and after a blood test the vet told me he has the blood of a 4 year old, So there might be something to it!

    Hey I just want to ask is it okay to feed my dog freeze dried raw dog food from the pet stores my dog is a picky eater and the only thing she has eaten before this is royal canine gastrointestinal wet food and in order to get that you need to order it from the vet and it is expensive I have just recently tried primal freeze dried nuggets with a little instinct raw boost mixers gut heath and she is eating it better than the royal canine and I can get that in the pet stores without going though the vet I am by no means feeling raw in that I am making it myself but she seems to prefer the freeze dried raw pet store food to other pet food like hills or perinea

    I've gone from feeding vegetables and fruit, transitioned him slowly to "prey model" with no plant meterial. For whatever reason it caused him pretty severe dysbiosis,, weight loss and he now has IBD. I don't know if the diet itself caused it, or if he was genetically predisposed and something about the diet change triggered it, or if it was just bad timing and he got it independent of the diet (that seems a little too coincidental to me). But he did NOT do well on raw prey model. I have since reintroduced plant matter and his stools have gotten better, he has gained some weight but the damage seems to be done, I have to manage the IBD. Again it could have been independent of the prey model diet but I feel like it certainly didn't help him. Maybe removing all plant matter killed off some gut bacteria that he needed to have.
    I know a lot of dogs do well on raw and prey model type diets, mine sadly did not. I think that while plant matter doesn't have much value in terms of vitamins and minerals for the dogs themselves, a lot of beneficial bacteria strains in the gut (who are not US, but more like passangers inside us) DO seem to like having some plant matter. The bacteria then go on to make bioactive compounds that confer some benefits to the host. I think nutrition goes beyond JUST vitamins and minerals.
    We've bred dogs to be so incredibly different from a chihuahua to a great dane, who knows what different needs and genetic predispositions/microbiome interactions each breed has. There's even difference between individuals of the same breed. Nutrition is complicated and every dog is different, just thought I'd share my experience with it.

    Bears and mongoose, the animals above and below on that chart she showed, are both technically omnivores. Even wolves supplement with other foods. Plus, dogs primarily eat herbivores, which means that they eat meats that got their nutrients from plants. The problem is that in our toxic world, plant nutrients are lower than ever right now since our souls are toxic and depleted of nutrients. My dog loves fruits and vegetables in addition to her meals and she hasn’t had any problems.
