I had a question about the protein variety aspect of this diet. It’s only been a few weeks but my cat only seems to like poultry organs. Can the protein variety come just from muscle meat? Or does it have to be varied with organs as well?
I tried giving him pork liver and beef kidney (both of which were very very smelly when prepping lol) and he turned his nose on the whole batch even after trying to give it to him 3 times. Not sure if these specific organs or maybe they were spoiled :/

    • @PawsofPrey

It not AS crucial, but still beneficial to not only rotate proteins but organ itself (spleen, brain, thymus, pancreas, testicle, etc) maybe you would have better luck with one of these organs from another animal? I understand the need to vary the proteins my cat ingests, but I still have a question!
If I’m feeding different muscle meats every day (pork, fresh mackerel, chicken, quail) can I continue to give him the same type of liver meat for a month or so? I have trouble finding organ meat in smaller quantities so I currently have 500 grams of chicken liver I’m slowly feeding my cat. Tomorrow I will be getting some kidney as a second secreting organ, but I want to know if I need to vary the organ meat species often if I’m already changing up the muscle meats and raw meaty bones daily.

Blood is part of what makes the entire prey animal balanced, so adding a little to the diet if you can get some is great to do! Tendons aren't nutrient dense but fine to feed. As long you are taking a methodical approach and ensuring you are meeting those RDA you will be ok regardless of sources you choose.
For example my biggest concern with feeding myself and my family (yes my dog) is that I can do so sustainable. I have found that whole rabbit and duck eggs is the easiest, most sustainable simply way to feed my dog (English/Bullmastiff) that meets all her requirements set forth by the NRC and AAFCO.
