2 years ago I decided to treat myself to a meal at Applebees. The host (if you can call the skinny kid with stringy hair wearing a knit cap) a host. I am a senior and use a walker. He told me it would be a 15 minute wait. When I asked if I could sit in the waiting area, he said NO, you have to wait outside. So rude, and it was only because one waitress says I can sit in her section that I stayed. Still every time I pass an Applebees, I think of the employee who treated me poorly, and keep on driving. I am so lucky I live in a state with so many diners. Good food and plenty of it, friendly staff, and prices that are comparable to fast food.
Good! You gouge the customers long enough, they'll stop coming into your stores. Just because a company "can" raise prices, doesn't mean they "should".
Since 2021 restaurant pricing has gone insane. I simply stopped going and so have most of my friends. Maybe once a mth we go for the local fullbreakfast for 6.50 and its a local place and we support them as best we can. Cook at home!!!
Bruh, I purchased two original chicken sandwiches and a small side order of mashed @ Popeyes the other day. It was like $15 and that didn't even fill me up. I could've easily whipped up some healthy meals not just one, with that $$$.
I think that is the goal lol to have people go back to cooking at home and overall re-thinking the food they consume for better health as well as slow down the bored eating habit America has..You are not actually supposed to eat until full.If you fancy fried chicken, you can easily buy tenders, flower, eggs, oil and potatoes for a month for the price of 4 single outings to a fast-food restaurant.

Less fast food is a good thing and no restaurants at all would be better so people would need to eat at home and cook their own meals. People might even lose a few pounds, which would also be a good thing. I stopped going out over a year ago.
Not surprised to see Steak and Shake on this list. Last time I went to one, you were expected to order your food from a kiosk ( no other option at this particular one, don't know if they are all like that ) and seat yourself. Not going to do the employees jobs for them and then pay too high prices. We left.
Dozens of small restaurants closed left and right due to the plandemic. Nevertheless these franchises aren't inmuned eithe,r plus the amounts of saturated fats in these foods contribute to people preparing home cooked meals or switching to more healthy and less expensive choices.

Fast food no longer means inexpensive. The McDonald's where I live charges $3.50 for small fries (about $4 when including tax). I can go to the local grocery store and pick up a ten pound bag of potatoes for the same price.
That is basic economics. People demand a higher wage, then the company raises prices of the product to accommodate the higher wage, and people either pay the price or choose to go somewhere else to get a product. Then the company makes hard choices.

The pricing is out of control. For example. Just a couple years ago, Burger King sold a choice of 2 whoppers, 2 chicken sandwiches, or 2 'impossible' whoppers for $5. Then $6. Then $7.50. OK, fair play, inflation. The next time I went, no 2 fer sale anymore, and 1 Whopper is $9. More than double what 2 used to be. Same with the Chicken. Karls Jr/Hardees had 2 for $5.50 big star, or turkey burger or chicken. Gone. Then it was 2 doubles (jalapeno/Cali classic) for $5, then $6, Now $8, but only double burgers, no chicken, no fish sandwich, no turkey burger. McDonald former Dollar menu McDouble and McChicken keep going up, to the point they don't even advertise the actual price, just advertising that If you buy 1 for some undisclosed price, the second one is a Dollar. I drove past KFC the other day and their advertised big sale is 8 pieces of DARK meat for $20. The problem is, I can go to a dozen mom and pop restaurants in town, or even applebees and Tj Mcsmileys or whatever, and get a 12-$14 lunch special. Not long ago, that was $12 for restaurant lunch, vs $5-6 lunch fast food, but if fast food is only a couple bucks cheaper, they aren't gonna make it.
These fast food restaurants came into existance by offering fast , reliable, friendly service with affordable prices. The tastes were consistant and each had their own stamp. Now the service is slow ,the employees mostly seem to not want to be there and some unable to even speak english .Many menu items are out or discontinued or served cold, portions size has gone way down and quality is an after thought.

Chick Fila is always packed in Colorado and Georgia too. They even have a special method for moving customers through the drive through. Chick Fila is better quality than most other fast food. When I lived in Colorado the town I lived in did not have any nearby Chick Fila. People would bring it from Denver and sell it to people, not even kidding. Every time I was in Denver and it was not a Sunday, I would go. They are very popular there. People in my town would always talk about wanting one in town. I live in Georgia now and there are plenty of Chick Filas. They are all busy. People will pay more for Chick Fila because they usually have great food and service.
Americans are exhausted with war, and whatever happens in Ukraine isn’t really going to have an effect on us like it will on European nations, so we do have a logical breaking point with endless support
But you are not exhausted giving Israel billions every year? They have free basic health insurance. While we don't. Many of you cry about Ukraine but not Israel. 😂 and Israel been happening for ages now. Either way Thanks for your continued support of Ukraine! 😂
You are foolish if you think the outcome of Ukraine won't affect the US. Besides, we signed the Budapest Memorandum, stating that if Ukraine gave up it's nukes, we would defend them against foreign aggression. Throwing money and half baked weaponry isn't even holding up our end of the bargain FFS. If Ukraine still had nukes, it is doubtful that Russia would occupy half of thier territory.
@@rightsdontcomewithpermits7073 the Budapest memorandum has not been ratified by congress so it is not binding. Congress controls the purse and declarations of war. That was a geopolitical deal leaders made without citizens support. I don’t believe Ukraine shouldn’t get any aid, but it should be approved by Congress, not just declared by the president.
@@rightsdontcomewithpermits7073 I think funding for Israel and Ukraine are unrelated. Justifying support for Ukraine shouldn’t be watered down to “but Israel”. The issues should be evaluated independently. I’m not anti aid to either one, the funding process just needs to be followed. It’s things like the Europeans saying the us is holding up funding, it’s the sense of entitlement to do whatever they please, and the disdain that there is a system in place that requires them to get approval.

Good news. Obesity rates in those cities are reportedly decreasing without those 3,000 calorie plates of grease cleverly disguised as grand slam breakfasts.
I agree with the last comment that was on here about lousy service and prices on food. When you pull up to the drive-thru at a location in Garden Grove California and you order a superstar with cheese and a small fry and it's $10.85 and the company wonders why their sales are lousy. Their franchisees and the company can keep their prices low. How many decades has Carl's jr. Been in California where they've made millions possibly billions of dollars. The company can keep prices low they made enough profit over the decades. Cut back on all these CEOs and corporate salaries and then you can pass the savings on to your customers. This goes also to every other major business in this country that's been around for decades and is made millions to billions. Until greedy shareholders and CEOs stop with this madness it'll never get better.
The Chick-Fil-A here in Winston-Salem just closed down to expand the store. I don't know about the other ones but that store does a booming business and has since day one. The place is always clean and the workers all have a smile and the food is good.

First: Thank you for yet another well done and interesting video. As for Inspire Brands 'sister' brands of Dunkin' Doughnuts and Baskin-Robbins, with the former doing much better, it does not take a business major to understand why. Quite simply: Dunkin' Doughnuts can sell product year round. Ice cream, (mainly being a seasonal offering) puts it in a position which makes me wonder how they even got this far. Most owners of locally owned ice cream shops here in Illinois, temporarily close for the fall/winter and, take up residence at their 'snow-bird' homes in Florida or Arizona.
They went from high school students taking jobs that gave them responsibility, to employing adults who DEMANDED higher pay. Be careful what you ask for, because now everyone will suffer.
Raising Canes': Finally tried their food a few months ago in Woodfield, IL. Was very underwhelmed, especially in comparison to Popeye's and Chic-Fil-A. Surprised they even got as big as they did.
The ones in South Louisiana are usually wrapped around the building and out onto the highway I tried it once when I moved to Louisiana back in 2003 at their original location in Baton Rouge near LSU it was overrated then and 20 years later it's probably still as overrated or even worse my daughter said the tenders have shrunk but the prices are higher than a kite
I never understood the Papa Murphy gimmick. Like if I wanted to bake a pizza at home, I would just get it from the store. Why would I go to a restaurant to buy an uncooked pizza?
Chick Fila is probably shutting down some locations because they built new ones. They recently closed the oldest location in my town and built a new one. We have 3. They did not need the old location because it does not have room for all the customers in the drive through. The new one has much more space.
Basking Robbins still has a good chance. Since summers are longer and hotter. They need to downsize their stores such as little Caesars. Just carry out.

I tried a meal at the last two and it was $15-$25 each. And how much is gas again? OMG! Even getting snacks at the regular store there were double and triple priced. It's highway robbery! But if you're upscale, you can bring your laptop inside and spend a few hours inside lounging around. The ventilation is updated for COVID reduction.

Most of these failures are no surprise really. The market is saturated with burger and sub restaurants so some will have to go. KFC has also gotten a lot of competition recently with lees and Popeyes putting out a quality “as quality as fast food can be” product. Throw in the current economy you get a hostile environment.
2013 B&G foods in Louisiana had KFC and Taco Bell combined stores as well as had stand alone KFC stores and got rid of every single 1 of their KFC locations and focused strictly only on Taco Bell

Bojangles is still mostly in the South so it is essentially a regional chain. Raising Cane’s is all over the country (with international locations too), but it has large holes in the US where it doesn’t exist. Firehouse Subs for a long time seemed to open only next to Walmarts and has been branching out for the last 15 years or so.
At a time when people are being squeezed to death by over-taxation and hyperinflation, our Canadian fast food restaurant response is that they have jacked their prices through the roof. And so there you have it, at a time when people are more poor than ever, fast food restaurant prices are higher than ever. Is anyone surprised that business isn't so good anymore. If fast food actually was cheap now those chains might have more of a chance to survive but they're just becoming one more thing that people have to give up in order to survive. We can't afford fast food but we know how to cook and that's what we do. I make better food than any fast food joint anyway and we save enough money to pay our utility bills so we eat good and pay our bills with the money we save. It's sad things have got to this point, but I will do anything I have to do to survive.
Well as far as KFC goes in Louisiana I'm sure the Cajun folks would rather support their "local" brand, Popeyes. Personally I haven't eaten at KFC since I discovered Popeyes. All fast food restaurants prices have gotten way too high for many. Somehow paying around $12 for a burger, fries and drink is prohibitive for many. One thing I find driving me away from most FF restaurants is the looks of the food. Only Wendy's burgers look like the pictures on the menu or in ads. Those gorgeous burgers most others use look like an employee stood on them before serving to customers. Sonic is probably the worst offender.
Companies are also laying off employees and making the remaining staff take up the slack. Greed goes unchecked again. And you can't blame COVID for everything!!!
Burger King is tanking!! An estimate from FORBES stated that cost over a TRILLION dollars to bring restaurants that haven’t been renovated since the 1980’s!!
Restaurants are a very hard business. And think of all the chains not mentioned. Some just might be managed better than others. I was surprised Pizza Hut wasn't on the list, they never seem to be very busy, and pizza has a bad reputation healthwise.
All of the restaurants and fast food chains need to close. Sad but it will leave more food for the masses. Not trying to be negative. But the food chain has to put people before profit at some point.☹️
It’s the price increasing every other month that’s driving customers to stop going… Can’t believe Chick-fil-a is on the list there is a line 10-20 cars deep every time we go by one nobody has that kind of traffic…..
Id like to.know what's up with Ralph's stores. A few months ago all Ralphs stores started completely redoing their entire stores , as if they are preparing for something. I am so lucky I live in a state with so many diners. Good food and plenty of it, friendly staff, and prices that are comparable to fast food.
Yes because the company doesn't pay them enough to care.
Good! You gouge the customers long enough, they'll stop coming into your stores. Just because a company "can" raise prices, doesn't mean they "should".
It's nice to see these companies get smaller.
Since 2021 restaurant pricing has gone insane. I simply stopped going and so have most of my friends. Maybe once a mth we go for the local fullbreakfast for 6.50 and its a local place and we support them as best we can. Cook at home!!!
I have almost completely stopped going. I used to go multiple times per week. Fast food is heading toward extinction in Calif.
Who can afford to
Bidenomics is working😂
Fast food is corporate factory food.
I love KFC, but I can not longer afford it, or Popeyes. 🙁
Grocery store fried chicken is 1/3 the price of national brand fast food places and tastes just as good if not better
Ya kfc cost $30 for ten tenters and 4 sides for one person
Bruh, I purchased two original chicken sandwiches and a small side order of mashed @ Popeyes the other day. It was like $15 and that didn't even fill me up. I could've easily whipped up some healthy meals not just one, with that $$$.
KFC really isn't good for you.
It all boils down to the horrendous cost of their rent.
It's property taxes that is hurting small businesses.
There should be pressure to the parent companies to pay up, rather than pressure from the parent companies to cut operation costs!

Less fast food is a good thing and no restaurants at all would be better so people would need to eat at home and cook their own meals. People might even lose a few pounds, which would also be a good thing. I stopped going out over a year ago.
I stopped eating out 35 years ago, I cook myself , eat fresh and you will not be sick
Not surprised to see Steak and Shake on this list. Last time I went to one, you were expected to order your food from a kiosk ( no other option at this particular one, don't know if they are all like that ) and seat yourself. Not going to do the employees jobs for them and then pay too high prices. We left.
Our steak and shake closed over a year ago.
Dozens of small restaurants closed left and right due to the plandemic. Nevertheless these franchises aren't inmuned eithe,r plus the amounts of saturated fats in these foods contribute to people preparing home cooked meals or switching to more healthy and less expensive choices.
😂PLANdemic!?

We all should FIGHT BACK against these high prices at fast food places. I'm getting to where I won't eat out unless I have a get a discount. Because it is much cheaper to cook at home. My Teaching Salary isn't going up just because these kids are paid big wages. Actually, my living standard is going down with all of this inflation. We are barely making ends meet, so I'm not going to help them pay employees like $15 to $20 / hour.
That is the result of needing to pay the employees $15.00 -$ 20.00 per hour.
@@gordonbone3689 Well, that's not my problem. My Teaching Salary isn't going up just because these kids are paid big wages. Actually, my living standard is going down with all of this inflation. We are barely making ends meet, so I'm not going to help them pay employees like $15 to $20 / hour.
Fast food no longer means inexpensive. The McDonald's where I live charges $3.50 for small fries (about $4 when including tax). I can go to the local grocery store and pick up a ten pound bag of potatoes for the same price.
Already did the same 2 months ago.
That is basic economics. People demand a higher wage, then the company raises prices of the product to accommodate the higher wage, and people either pay the price or choose to go somewhere else to get a product. Then the company makes hard choices.
$24 for a burger, fries, and a drink at Five Guys. Outrageous.

Baskin Robbins should not sell their ice cream in grocery stores. Keep it in-store. Make the customers come to you, don't go to them.
People are still going to Grocery stores - but they do not go to Baskin Robbins for a lot of the year. When the weather gets cold - BR needs money to survive the winter.
@@Thommadura Yeah, and then, out of habit, people will continue to buy B&R ice cream in the stores once the weather warms up , brick and mortar B&R stores will lose sales, go out of business then everyone will ask, "How'd this happen?".
Pure Nonsense - There is not a single "GROCERY" store that depends on ONLY the profits of Ice cream to survive. Grocery stores sell LOTS of things that you can buy at other venues such as restaurants and diners, fast food places, and even soda shops - and they manage to survive quite nicely. Add in the fact that there are dozens of brands of ice cream and B&R certainly has no major share of the product category I suppose the next thing you are going to say is that Grocery stores will go out of business because of lack of sales of Frozen Waffles when Vacation season rolls around and people go to IHOP on the road.@@jediknightjairinaiki560
Thank God for the mom and pop restaurants. Better foods!
Around here Chick Fil-A is certainly not hurting for business!! Cars lined up about any time you go, and they move them through fast!!
They run that place like a well oiled machine! They have never made a mistake with my food and the staff is excellent.
The Chick-fil-A located 2 miles from us is always packed. They just opened another one about 5 miles away to meet the demand. I don't eat fast food restaurants, but Chick- fil-A does have good chocolate milkshake, but make sure you run for miles after consuming it. 😊
The only Fast food I will eat. I'm in NC and they are always packed! They are not going anywhere.
Paced in Pleasanton California too. Just opened another one a few miles away
Americans are exhausted with war, and whatever happens in Ukraine isn’t really going to have an effect on us like it will on European nations, so we do have a logical breaking point with endless support
USA is paying wages for thousands in Ukraine.
But you are not exhausted giving Israel billions every year? They have free basic health insurance. While we don't. Many of you cry about Ukraine but not Israel. 😂 and Israel been happening for ages now. Either way
Thanks for your continued support of Ukraine!

Fear not people we still have Baskin Robbins .... with all the crap going on we need ICE CREAM
Agreed🥶😋
Most of (if not all of) fast food joints will turn into restaurants or just go out of business. Current fast food prices are unsustainable.

Chick Fila is probably shutting down some locations because they built new ones. They recently closed the oldest location in my town and built a new one. We have 3. They did not need the old location because it does not have room for all the customers in the drive through. The new one has much more space.

Bojangles, Raising Cane's, Firehouse Subs...
I've never even heard of these brands.
Firehouse is one step above subway
True words of wisdom.
Most of these Ive never had.. 🤷🏾♂️
