I'm 60 years old now ... grew up with Bowie music... Bravo ... see you soon David ... my end is near also ... see you on the other side. Thanks for the music.
I was at Radio City that night. The TV taping was painful. One artist, one song - then 15 minutes of waiting while they change everything for the next performer. During the "breaks" they played commercials from Citibank. It sucked. Then finally David Bowie came out... with no backing band, just a piano. And he did this. It was bloody awesome. And it made the entire boring, strung out, painful event worthwhile. I don't remember one other performance from that night. Just this. And that's more than enough.
I've recently become addicted to Bowie and this almost made me cry after watching videos of him when he was younger - I just admire him so much for still singing even after a heart attack. Labyrinth was amazing and he's probably one of my top heroes - GO BOWIE!!!!!!
About this from Rolling Stone magazine 9/8/05: The world first saw Bowie perform post-heart attack at Fashion Rocks, taped at Radio City Music Hall. Accompanied only by keyboardist Mike Garson, he played a spine-tingling version of "Life on Mars." Bizarrely, he's sported a black eye and a bandaged arm during the performance. It looked like he just got into a fight. "He was out of practice, almost a little scared," Paul Trynka wrote in his wonderful Bowie biography Starman. "Tonight, even in the low key, the glorious octave leap up to 'Mars' that had launched a career was no longer effortless and transcendent; it spoke of pain."
Two geniuses together. David Bowie and Mike Garson on piano. You'll always be the greatest their ever was David. "Everyone says Hi" and miss you terribly!!
There never will be a singer/actor/artist as grand and unique as Bowie - he is/was a Icon, Hero. Nobody has or will ever be as great as David Bowie. We all lost a Hero, Rock Icon, unique gracious Man, what a loss it is to all. RIP David xoxo
in my life the love of music is only second to that of my family. within my love of music I had decided some time ago that David Bowie reigned supreme. transcending music - the consummate artist - a true icon of my time. truly missed never forgotten. RIP David Bowie see you on the other side.
Versione splendida, sofferta e incantevole. Degno di Molière...
Oh, all of you over-produced so-called artists who can't perform live.....watch this man!! He will show you how it's done!! REAL talent. One of the greatest. 80 years from now people will still be listening to his songs. All the current Top 40 people will be forgotten.
He was the first voice I remember! My mother recorded it on one of the first Philips K7 recorder! ...and 13 years later I was hearing him on the radio! I was on his concert in Paris 1987 the day before my Baccalaureat! I've got the best grades ever!! and I do remember him w/ my old aunt in a concert 1983 in Phoenix/AZ! My first music love... he was/is the best!
Superb as always. My favorite of him singing Life on Mars was on Parkinson interview, he does a great imitation of Mick Jagger before performing Life on Mars. Tom Hanks was also a guest & he was just speechless after David’s performance. It’s on UA-cam & well worth watching the whole interview, such a gifted humble gentleman, intelligent & eloquent 💚👏💜
hey people, i know this is the GREAT BOWIE and maybe some of you would expect more of him, but he is more than 60 years old and had a heart surgery a while ago. This is bowie today, don't live in the past, and he is great for his age. And altough this is not a concert from the 70s, is still powerful in its own way. I felt touched by this performance, david i love you.
He was the first voice I remmber! My mother recorded it on one of the first Philips K7 recorde4r! ...and 13 years laters I was hearing him on the radio! I was on his concert in Parid 1987 the dqay before my Baccalaureat! I've got the best grades ever!! and I do remember him w/ my old aunt in a concert 1983 in Phoenix/AZ!
as a person who grew up on bowie, i cant believe the amount of comments relating to the way he looks, as apposed to the outstanding performance he gave.....
Vedo un Bowie maturo e consapevole. Quasi goffo nei movimenti rallentati. Certamente diverso dai suoi precedenti filmati. Si, può avere una parrucca. Oggi ci sentiamo grandi, inattaccabili. Un domani ci accorgiamo di essere semplici uomini come tutti. Grazie Dawid per le belle canzoni che ci hai lasciato
"Life on Mars?" just starts off so sweetly and mournfully. At least, there have been a coupla versions performed by the master within which he delivered with such a plaintive croon, it took your breath away.
Bowie, the everlasting fashion icon, wore cropped tailored suit pants five years before GQ and all fashionistas adopted them as a look of their own. Long live the king.
I just had to come back to this after seeing marc almond butcher this song in the bbc proms tribute to bowie. Poor marc, nerves must have got the best of him. I miss bowie terribly, theres a hole in my heart that will never heal. I love the way he's sending messages through his clothing and makeup. Genius, legend, can't say enough about this performance, sad, touching, one of the best.
He's up there with an injured wrist and a black eye and still performing like this.... the rest of us can only hope to someday touch this kind of greatness. RIP

Chi ha avuto la fortuna di essere stato tuo fan sa quanto è stato fortunato . Grazie David

+Ikarus Fly -----------------------Now that you mention it, yes, cannot think of anyone that compares

Great call. Garson's a beast. Cheers.
Rick Wakeman played the keys on the album.
Bowie is like a fine wine: he gets better and better the older he gets
is this only me, or this is so very beautiful. i even cant control my tears...

Unbelievable, he looks tired and sick, but he sings so great. He shows us his pain and still stay a leading man. It almost makes cry. Thanks Sir.
0:12-0:14 when he walks through the smoke and bows is eerie now. Great trailblazing artist and man! Goodbye David!
This version really got me. R.I.P. David Bowie, you will always be the greatest

This for me has to be the best live performance of life on mars. Wouldn't it be great if we did find life on Mars and his name was David.
I HOPE SO
Paul Stratford David didn't die, he left after is long stay on earth to return to mars
Simply the most beautiful and haunting final version saying goodbye to all! Always will be with us!
The world lost something special, we'll never be able to replace that loss. Thanks for a lifetime of memories. See you soon, sir.

Il est tellement charmant comme ça, je craque et je retiens aussi mes larmes en voyant son visage déjà marqué par la maladie

So talented, so cool, so classy and so handsome! unfair, isn't it? :)
I've never seen such a wonderful performance. David Bowie is the only one.
My favorite song by far!
What makes this more amazing is the fact he'd not long recovered from a heart attack
Among Many Great Songs, Arguably His Greatest Soul-Stirring One. You Will Be Missed David.
I was at this one. Beyond great. Thanks for putting up.
Did you know he would be performing?! Or was it a surprise?
Beautiful, White duke, you'll be always in our hearts!
I love it! I love the speculation between whether his injuries are real or not! No they aren't! It's great how he does it. He pulls it off great.
as a person who grew up on bowie, i cant believe the amount of comments relating to the way he looks, as apposed to the outstanding performance he gave.....
OMG, that was sad, so bloody sad, I have tears rolling down my face. Long Live David Bowie

This version made me cry. He seemed very emotional from about 2/3rds in 🥲
its so sad we did not get to see any more of these performances between 2005 and 2015
just a few years before he absolutely looked so healthy.... just goes to show how important each day of our lives are.
We miss You!
Gorgeous rendition of his original song! Quite hauntingly beautiful! Thanks for posting this special video!
