About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

Kids today can't understand how shocking this was back in the early 70s. The old boys who fought in the war were just middle-aged and upon seeing this they believed society had fallen apart.
I'm 14 and I can I love this kind of music and I thank my uncle and dad for geting me to listen to this old music cause it is in of my fave ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂
Even just reading what you just wrote, I still just think "That's Bowie being Bowie!", cause you're right, we'll never know hpw shocking this was
QwWW@@thekirbs8976
@@thekirbs8976I think what he means is the vets didn’t appreciate him wearing make up.
And now people are getting shocked at androgyny all over again haha
David Bowie in 4K is perfection !
I agree. 😊
Yes, but he is perfection in any resolution
David Bowie IS perfection :)
A lot clearer than the original. Great song/artist/legend.
Fantastic!!😻
I'm 13 and nobody told me about David before, thanks internet!
it hurts me the fact I will never see David Bowie live !!!!!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭
seen him twice xx amazing , never forget.
I was tow
Yeah, me too
Did you feel the same way about the Beatles X
Well I look at it this way recently, if in the afterlife if there is no time then maybe I can see a Bowie concert or Bob Segar from back when I was too young. Just a thought, and a beautiful one for sure
I love the fact that just after 2 hours the video has been posted, there's already almost 4,000 views. Great songs - and great artists - are never forgotten.
@@DD_Domenik- Certainly, and I'm sure that the video will have reached at least 100,000 views by the end of the year, and that's me being pessimistic
@@kevinmichael9482 Don't wory, I am from the new era and I am sure like me many others will keep bowie alive

The song, the vocals, and Bowie's beautiful visuals make the perfect MV. Such an incredibly talented man. Love you David. Miss you. ❤
And Rick Wakemans Beautiful Keys❤😊

We All Miss Him deeply ❤
I CAN'T EVEN DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS SONG
So do I...💔
Love the song and the man. ❤
Miss you, David!!😢 Thanks for the years of fantastic entertainment!

Lyrics :)
It's a God-awful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair
But her mummy is yelling, "No"
And her daddy has told her to go
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen
But the film is a saddening bore
For she's lived it ten times or more
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man, look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man, wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?
It's on America's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow
Now the workers have struck for fame
'Cause Lennon's on sale again
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause I wrote it ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man, look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man, wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?
Best song in a long time!
Thanks

2 favorite song by Mr david bowie Starman untouchable and unforgettable and unbelievable and everlasting icon forever more than life itself
Lenin not Lennon.
Thx very much 🙏🙏
Over 50 years old now this masterpiece! One of rocks greatest ballads. Who else could write a song like that?
Morgenshtern
@@Jopochnik who?
Neil Jung
Lucio Battisti
@@nicolasponchut7537 Never heard of him, I'm sure he's good but after writing this, could he have written Young American's or Space Oddity? Bowie didn't churn out the same old style. He moved on. Rock, soul, techno, dance music, drum and bass and jazz. Doesn't matter what genre it was. He could do it.
It's sad that we'll never see someone as brilliant as him ever again in our lifetime.
It's not sad to me. I believe it's beyond amazing that he was alive for most of my life. I'm so grateful.
There's plenty brilliant artists out there. But there's only one David Bowie!
@@crickcrackcricketycrack5501 Meh. Merely rehashed music from the past. Nothing original happening now.
Ive been a Bowiefile since about '79. Finally got the see him live at the US festival 1983 in Devore CA. As Bowie aged his voice changed from this childlike quality to a more bass tone. By 83 he had a much deeper base tone voice from his early years. This was "Serious Moonlight" tour. When he sat down at the piano to do "Life on Mars" he somehow used his young childlike voice. Absolute genius. When he toured for Glass Spider he hired Peter Frampton because Frampton was not getting a lot of work. When they sang "Sons of the Silent Age" Bowie sang the bass and Frampton sang the falsetto. Perfect. Absolute perfection.
Wait, David Bowie fans are called 'Bowiefiles'? Or did you mean 'Bowie fan'? If you did mean Bowiefile I personally think that's a cool way of putting It
@@JustAWildSlipknotFan I meant it as an enthusiast. Bowiefile or maybe more accurately Bowiephile.
Absolute classic. We were blessed to have him in our lives ❤
Exactly and English born classic. We truly did dominate the music world then.
50 years later, we live in a freak show and it's still the best seller. Lennon keeps selling, the boring movie story keeps repeating itself, and the question remains, is there life on Mars?
David was, is and always will be a genius. An artist far ahead of his time
I understood that the lyric refers to Lenin, who inspired workers to strike, yet again.
Mick Ronson wrote the string section for this song. This era of Bowie would not have been the same without him.
he toured with Dylan after....
And rick wakeman! ❤
Yes. Ronson is the unsung hero in David's world.
It's amazing how he can change facial expressions so smoothly - stoicism, skepticism, disdain, sorrow, muted joy, even menace - all within the course of this astounding song.
This song brings tears to my eyes for no reason
Still so relevant. "lawman beating up the wrong man. David Bowie was always ahead of our time. I was 13 when I first heard this.
I'm not alone then😮❤
No reason? Well, it could be that it's a very moving song.
Lost Majesty.
Same. Every time... Every. Single. Time.
50 years, this song is timeless, David Bowie is timeless.
The CC was useless.
One of the last songs Bowie performed live, it’s timeless.
Oh, man. It's like he's still with us, I cried with emotion to see him so clearly being so young. Rest in peace David.
I found this song during my therapy and I've been fascinated by his songs for months. This song is something really special for me and I'm happy to see David Bowie with vivid visual.
I first heard this song during the Freak Show season of American Horror Story. Jessica Lange's character Elsa Mars performed it on screen, and I instantly fell in love with the song. Back then, I had no idea it was Bowie's creation. He will live forever through his timeless art 💜
Don’t forget how this was your dead wife’s favourite song etc
David's finest hour without a doubt.
Struggled for years to get a breakthrough hit and ultimately became a rock icon.
This song has lyrics which are hard to fathom and it has many different meanings to different people.
A true classic which brings back unrepeatable memories to me personally.
God bless you David.
Bowie wrote the song as a parody of Frank Sinatra's "My Way". Bowie has labeled the song "a sensitive young girl's reaction to the media" and added, "I think she finds herself disappointed with reality... that although she's living in the doldrums of reality, she's being told that there's a far greater life somewhere, and she's bitterly disappointed that she doesn't have access to it."
The lyrics also contain imagery suggesting the futility of man's existence, a topic Bowie used frequently on his early albums
Why does it have to be a girls reaction to the media, could a young boy not have the same reaction, that it’s all shit?
Great literature never has just one meaning, no matter what the genre or when it's written.
it’s funny how Ziggy Stardust was both a blessing a curse
It’s the character David played that everyone knew and loved the most and it’s what you think when someone says think of David Bowie but it also started his downfall into cocaine. He filmed a man fell down to earth while high and didn’t even remember filming it he also felt he never felt like himself again and everywhere he goes it’s Ziggy talking and not David
His career lifted off when he started impersonating Bolan imho.
This is one of the greatest songs of all time.
It's an eternal classic, no matter how many times I hear it.
Bowie is still alive today.
And forever.
What an absolutely beautiful man.
Yep he was out of this world.
The fact his face isn't literally hurting my eyes from how bright it was is a life changing moment 😭..
He looks so natural here, all the artifical colours are gone and that ending is just Fantastic !!! Bowie Forever !!!
Don't forget, Rick Wakeman on piano..... and of course the one and only Mick Ronson, his guitar player who scored this wonderful piece of music , the string section bringing this song to it's crescendo.
What a talented artist, and a wonderful human being. So cutting edge during his entire career, the expression "ahead of his time" fits David Bowie perfectly.
My favorite song in the world. I wish i existed in the 70s 😢
Absolute icon and legend with such a captivating career. Always in our hearts. ❤
David Bowie on 4K is just what the world needed now.
50 years ago, I was 13. I remembered the first time I saw him, I couldn't believe how beautiful he was! I'll love him always 💕 ❤️
The very first Bowie's MV I've watched on TV. I'll never forget how I felt in that daybreak, watching MTV Brazil top 100.
People just dont talk about their mothers, their dogs, and clowns anymore...
I was listening to this song because of the anniversary and to watch the upgrade made me truly happy. My all time favorite song.
Eternal love for Bowie.
He's my absolute favourite, obviously a good voice, the brains behind those songs are beyond comparison.
What unbelievable artistic vision across the field. Beauty. Breath capturing visual, audio, poetic everything. So blessed to have these masterpieces preserved in any possible way we’re able. Bowie, you’re captivating. ❤❤❤❤❤
There will NEVER be a musical talent like this. Ever.
I love him still RIP David
I never used to listen to David Bowie, although I loved him in the Labyrinth. My uncle always plays songs like this and recently I have met up with him and he played this song and I just remembered how much I LOVED IT. Playing it on repeat ❤️
52 years later the song is still a banger
Perfect! The perfect song treated perfectly in 4K. Rick Wakeman, kudos for such a great piano accompaniment. Bowie in all his superstardom.

Fantastic! As fresh as a daisy. A song that is 50 years young! Timeless.
I'll never get over how beautiful him and this song is.
Finally, a version of the music video where the song is actually at the correct pitch. Great to see this in 4K too!
This music will never get old.
I was just listening to this song an hour ago, seeing this video remastered in 4k made me so happy, such a great artist Bowie is, may he rest in peace
he’s just so beautiful
I feel a sense of privilege getting to see such a beautiful video in such a high definition after so many years of it being made. My sister and I used to watch the super "bright" video where you can't see any detail on his face and to now be able to see every piece of glitter on his skin. Every wrinkle, every shine, every eyelash, and hair strand. I'd be lying to you if I said I didn't start crying as soon as I realised the gravity of what I'm watching. I Love David's music so much and I'm so happy I get to see this. Rest in peace, David. We Love you. 💙 -R
The first time I listened to the song I didn’t like it. Then I was curious what made it good so I rewatched it. The second time I watched it I immediately fell in love with David Bowie. This song was incredibly unique and it’s one of my favorites now❤
yeaaaaah hes ight
Often the best songs aren't likeable on first listen. It took me 20 years to get in to a Kate Bush album after I bought it. I don't think I was mature enough to understand it at the time. It's a masterpiece.
@@DudeSilad True but I think Kate Bush’s music is more accessible then say Life on Mars (Although Kate Bush and David Bowie are both amazing songwriters!)
@@strangelyforgotten7522 Kate is far more avant garde. I'd say Bowie had the far more commercial music. Although Kate wrote a fair amount of it.

im hearing this for the first time in my whole life and.. oh my god this is so sosososo beautiful i am literally crying

*_Rest?_* Who are you kidding?
If Bowie had done nothing other than this song, he'd still be considered great. Fortunately, he did! 😀
Good for Bowie defying the norm..... If we didnt have people unafriad like this, music would be very boring... Love this man
David Bowie has been an idol for most of my life. Mick Rock is brilliant!
When david bowie passed away my mother and I went to "Estela de Luz" in Mexico City to hear this song (some people played their CDs). It was my bonding time with her and today we're still close because of bowie.
Godspeed David, I know you're up there somewhere kickin' it. Thanks for the memories. Wish you were here. Miss you, with much love.
david was always in 4k , just everything around him wasn’t
I love you David, I sometimes dream I could have met you
Если тебе 8 лет
My grandmother perceived this as eccentric and otherworldly in 1973.
this in 4k is truly a treat
If David Bowie only made this one song, he would still be legendary....

Probably the finest 4K restoration (and upgrade even when comparing to the beautiful 2016 mix) for a music video ever.
Absolutely epic song by one of the greatest, and Rick Wakeman's piano is just the icing on the cake.

Just David Bowie, a timeless song and Mick Rock. What else can I ask?
