@@digitaldjtips I get that. Just because I can't see a world where it's better doesn't mean others cant. I should have said there's no uses for it for me that would work.
I appreciate the concept of avoiding the need for real-life elements; however, for me, the connection to real-world hardware remains essential and will continue to be so. I can see the potential for this approach in future generations, though. I understand you can have a hybrid experience but that's about it for me.
Great review, I picked this up and played with it for a few hours. It's an exceptional version 1.0 and I really hope we get all those future features and improvements you mentioned, those things will take this to the next level. Community features would be absolutely amazing and I'd love anything that supports a listening party because that has been my VR dream for years now.
Great review! I think once the communal aspects are introduced this would be a great way of introducing DJs to the “live” environment. The only thing I’m not sure about is whether I would want to have that headset on for a couple of hours (weight/comfort etc).🔥🔥🔥
DJing in VR is a great way to access and learn equipment you might not be able to otherwise. In TribeXR, I’ve been able to use the virtual equivalent of thousands of dollars’ worth of Pioneer DJ gear that I wouldn’t have easily had the chance to experience otherwise. Highly recommended! I look forward to giving this one a try as well especially due to the hand tracking. However the ability to share the experience with others is a crucial element. Definitely one to follow! :)
Imagine if clubs like Ministry supplied a live stream and you could ‘be the DJ’. Granted the crowd wouldn’t be screaming at the right time, but it would still offer a good vibe for those bedroom DJ’s.
Great review Phil, and very exciting gear. I can't help but think this is a little weird when performing in front of crowds, but for livestreaming DJ sets it's brilliant. There's also the Tribe XR CDJ emulation which is a great way for anyone on a budget to hone their "club standard" skills at home. I love the idea of hybrid mode. If Tribe XR do somthing like that it would be great, because people could for example buy the hardware mixer and use virtual decks, then maybe add a real deck later when they can afford it, and so on. It's exciting times to be around.
Some interesting ideas so it will be good to see what the tribe crew come up with next because I think that system has not really changed much for awhile
For us they've "got it right" for this platform, for the mainstream, in a way that Tribe XR - forward-looking and excellent in its own right that it was - didn't quite manage.
Yes and no. Tribe maintains a license with Pioneer and it emulates real club gear. I literally learned Pioneer CDJs and DJMs with Tribe. Algoriddim is going the other way, taking advantage of the VR platform with larger virtual controls. Algoriddim looks like it has better ergonomics for VR controls whereas Tribe will prepare you play in the real world.
Really impressive how this is coming together. I'm excited about the expressiveness you might be able to get using your hands and the amazing potential of custom UI's for how you want to organize your own decks and controls. Totally seeing the streaming thing as well!
Excited to try the hand tracking features. I've been DJing in VR with TribeXR for years and love it! This looks like it has some cool features to explore. When it comes to VR/AR musical instruments, the more, the better! They can not only often recreate existing instruments convincingly but also open the door for more experimental creations. I personally want to control both the music and have a high degree of interactive influence over the visuals as well.

I've used Virture glasses to put Serato on a virtual display and I can see gesturing being a thing, but I can't see VR is going to work unless, as you suggest, you have the audience in VR with you, which would be really cool and could bring people together worldwide. Could be a virtual multi-room club, beach, basement, whatever. A meld with SecondLife perhaps? I guess it could also have a role in tutoring.
