- If you’ve researched supplements for dog cancer, you’ve come across curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric. Does it help, and how?
“Turmeric saved my dog” you’ll hear online. And it’s true that this dark yellow spice, used for thousands of years, has a host of benefits. But it’s really hard to get into the bloodstream, which means it has low bioavailability. Just how useful is it, really?
Dr. Jessica Tartof, an integrative veterinarian, joins us to explain why so many blends she recommends to her clients include curcumin … and why feeding your dog spice off the shelf might not be as effective as you hope.

Correct me if I'm wrong, is the tuber in any plant part of the roots and not the stalk?
That is right, the tuber is the stem or root of a plant.
Where's the product recommendation?
As Dr. Tartof explains, curcumin is relatively easy to find -- like on the grocery shelf! And many blends also have it -- which may be because it is more helpful for its synergy than directly. Dr. Dressler's formula, Apocaps, has it. And here's a link to the article on curcumin on our site: www.dogcancer.com/articles/supplements/curcumin-for-dogs/
@@DogCancer tumeric is usually found on the shelf. Not bioavilable curriculum
@@jfresh2054 yes -- as Dr. Tartof explained, and the article outlines clearly, curcumin (an active in turmeric) is not bioavailable on its own.
