Roger is not the greatest singer around, but the way he expresses emotions is spot on. He's great at portraying anger, aggression, fear, anguish, and sadness. He's got good breath support, he can sing in tune, and his vocals help tell a story which makes him a good singer.
He isn't as "gifted" as Dave, but he still manages to keep up that top class singing since he knows how to perfectly utilize his voice. not to say that Dave doesn't do that as well, I mean just listen to Waiting for the Worms
Yes. He has always sung with his heart on his sleeve- i think that is what i love about him the most. He bares it all unabashedly-expressed in very emotional tones. Like those lines in "The Final Cut"-"and if i showed u my dark side would u still hold me......tonight?...and if i opened my heart to you, showed u my weak side... what would u do?" NOBODY writes like that.
The vocals on this song are beyond amazing. I think Rog did the best vocals of his entire career on this song. You can feel the vocals are coming from the bottom of his heart. Full of emotions.
Whenever I listen to this song and Roger shouts "BREAD!" at the end, I immediately burst into tears. There's so much emotion behind that exclamation that's impossible to ignore
I never took this album off the turntable in 1984!! And since I got the CD it's been played every year since. Absolutely unbelievable - who writes music like this.....
Nobody plays music like roger waters . The most sensational musician I've ever heard. And his lyrics... well say no more .pure poetry in my opinion. Every soli album he's done is just unreal.
my mom introduced me to pros and cons of hitchhiking when I was young. 49 now and I still listen to it weekly. She is gone now but besides Conway Twitty and Freddy Fender its the only other music we shared. miss her every day
The thunder though...goosebumps. Something i have always loved about Floyd and Roger is the way they perfectly insert sounds we commonly hear. Eg. thunder, heartbeats, footsteps, helicopters etc. It gives the song a third dimension...your imagination or feeling...or both is engaged, making it a more real and personal experience.
I remember hearing this while I was in the mountains in a cabin I was laying down next to a fireplace while it was raining outside and thundering while Clapton’s solo was playing. I got chills. It was magical af Felt like magic x3 that was 2 years ago... Roger made a great album
Officer, it's called bipolar disorder nowadays. Fellow bp here, and you're spot on! "One of My Turns" from The Wall hits home as well. Hope you're in good health! ☺️🙏🏼
Thirty minutes ago, I didn’t know this album existed. I knew Roger had a solo career, obviously, but for reason I can’t quite articulate, I’d never explored his solo discography. Now, listening to Roger’s storytelling, and Clapton’s just ripping on his Strat….I honestly don’t know how I could have missed it. This….is….bliss. That may be the fastest I’ve ever ordered an album. My eyes will be scanning the horizon for the Amazon truck tomorrow.
hes the principal screaming that "if u dont eat ur meat, u cant have any pudding until u eat ur meat." hes the greatest rock n roll singer just based on that, so cool to actually see this person who was always on the radio daily but u didnt see what they looked like"...
Sends shivers up my spine every time I hear this song or album for that matter.. this is what real music is and we’ll never have the luxury of having these artists again. Songs today are terrible!! Long live real music, never let it die🤙🏼
Only when Roger has departed will his true greatness be recognised. He is without doubt a musical genius story teller. And one of my all time favourites !!!!!!
I thought I recognized those scale runs in the solo or between the song! How did I not know it was good ol’ Clapton :) Never heard a Roger solo song or album for that matter till now. Now I see how Roger was the brain of Floyd :) beautiful music
3:00 Clapton killed it but I can just imagine Jimmy Page soloing this part! With his dirty but yet clean blues, oh man what a time to be alive in which we can listen to any type of music with a click of a button
I love him... I could wax lyrical on his genius, and this song summarises all of it. Musical majesty; crisp, clear emotional insight. Full on Rock n Roll. Wisdom, beauty and power paralleling the extremes of life - and all in four and a half minutes. Bravissimo.
In 1978 I was 15 years old and ran away from an abusive home. I hitchhiked from Philly to Tampa, Fl. Why Tampa? I’d never been there nor did I know anyone there. Why? Cause it was warm at nite. I hitched during a massive snow storm on the East Coast and I was afraid of dying in my sleep from cold. Spent 1.5 years living in the streets and it was the best time of my life. Came home when I turned 17 and had my parents sign my enlistment papers to join the US Navy. Almost flew to France to join the French Foreign Legion. Thank G@d I joined the Navy. Time of my life baby! Cathy if you’re reading this I still love and miss you 45 years later.
There is so much talent on this album and Rogers creativity with the lyrics that nothing compares to to the way every instrument screams out the pain the songs are saying. Eric Clapton's solo in sexual revolution makes you feel any pain you ever went through and you just wanted to scream like his guitar 🔥
I hear you Roger.. first time I heard this one... your legacy left a mark on me from a young age and still lives on today. When I drifted you were there to come back to the light. I give you credit for leading me in the right direction in life. ✌️🦁✌️
Roger non poteva scegliere un chitarrista migliore.magia pura .chitarrista magico dì un livello che pochi sanno arrivare.2 rock men ineguagliabili unici .Dainese Aldo.non ci sono paragoni con nessuno.
I remember I had a brand new Buick Riviera when this Album came out, and the stereo I had in it was awesome.......Alpine Head Unit with top of line HLTAC Heads, Alpine Amplifiers and Kicker Subwoofers in the rear behind seat.....nice tight Rock Bass!!! Not the Rap Crap Bass!!!!!!!! Top of the line Tweeters and Mid-range.......I used to blast this while driving to the shore for weekends, and stopped at lights, or whoever next to me, just stared as they automatically got into the Music and Lyrics!!! Especially the song "Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking"!!! Was such great memories and experiences!!!
Waters said in an interview with the whole band (during the Dark Side of the Moon sessions ) that the most important part of art is if it can send a chill down your spine...really feel the art. Cheers to all Waters fans. 🍻
"She said you've been having a nightmare. And it's not over yet" is a very powerful line. Pros and Cons is an incredible album.
Clapton's solo in this song still makes my spine shiver every time I hear it.
I'm partial to David Sanborn's solo in 4:50 am go fishing.. But yea clapton rocks on this track! 😎
Hi, I have a question.
Clapton plays the entire song, or only the solo part ?
javier torres He is on the whole album 😎
I thought there was guest guitarrists in this album, I was wrong.
The solo in this song is amazing!!
Thanks for the answer!
M Cruse Clapton ain’t got nothing on Gilmour though.

Watchman5 that's why I say that althought Gilmout has a better voice, Waters is a better singer.
Watchman5 roger waters =#1
He isn't as "gifted" as Dave, but he still manages to keep up that top class singing since he knows how to perfectly utilize his voice.
not to say that Dave doesn't do that as well, I mean just listen to Waiting for the Worms
Like Jim Morrison
Yes. He has always sung with his heart on his sleeve- i think that is what i love about him the most. He bares it all unabashedly-expressed in very emotional tones. Eric Clapton's solo is perfection!
Roger and Clapton on fire on this album and Clapton solo on this track is just stunning.
Absolutely
A lot of people think it's his best work (and that baffles Clapton, lol).
@@ObscuredByTime I saw them live on this tour and Clapton blew the roof off the place when he whipped into that solo.
❤❤
How very true, they link up so well. I love this album
The way he expresses "please hold my hand" and " between two bit's of ...bread" blows my mind. My all time favourite artist. Thanks Roger.
true
fr3d Gibbs so true
yea i love those vocal bits too thare a few on this album
Those phrases are the spark that makes this song be my favorite on the album
Bravo, Well Said! Roger Rules!
The vocals on this song are beyond amazing. I think Rog did the best vocals of his entire career on this song. You can feel the vocals are coming from the bottom of his heart. Full of emotions.

Nobody
Same here, I listen to this album every couple of months, he's the governor, love amused to death as well, the man's a genius
альбом один из немногих в мире где выражается больше вокал чем музыка , как говорится словесный рок , Прогрессив Рок. Но гитара Клэптона на высоте!
Nobody plays music like roger waters . The most sensational musician I've ever heard. And his lyrics... well say no more .pure poetry in my opinion. Every soli album he's done is just unreal.

Cool story.thank you.
Same here - my dad introduced roger in my childhood and love love love this epic album - im 37 now, and hear this album when im happy, sad og mad !
Im 64 and thought it was the end of the world when pink Floyd split. How wrong was I. We are truly blessed to have people of his calibre.
Roger waters is a genius
BREAD!!
Yes!
Roger Waters is a genius
and a good bass-player.
Alex from Italy.
Sexual repression is perhaps the greatest artistic spur and motivating spirit of all time. Think about it, the psychology of the lot.
❤
the pinnacle of Waters' voice!
Roger is the best of all the bests! This song is actually a masterpiece
Nobody writes like Waters. Thank you for banging your heart
Is he left handed?
Without a doubt, my favorite Waters song! That whole “I awoke in a fever” part gets me every time. After all these years, it’s still a rush.
Mine is "Powers that Be"
I was at that part when i see this comment😮😮
In my life Roger Waters is the greatest composer of all time
Clapton' is on fire, goosebump time
The vibe of this solo has stayed with me for decades. Quality stuff.

Clapton's artistry here is second to none. Spine chilling
One of my absolute favourite albums
Come for the Waters , stay for the Clapton . Both kings .

Nice.
Espectacular siempre Roger Waters . 💎❤️😊🇲🇽👍
Eric Clapton plays a mean guitar on this whole album
"And only the dead go free" This is my hope.
Literally one of the few albums I can listen completely on repeat and never get bored by it so amazing
One of the rare songs that gently reaches into you and warms your heart. Then passionately rips it out. The Gunners Dream, just destroys me.

The chills authenticate how badass the work is.good story and killer guitar.
This song to me represents my manic depressive mood changes for some reason.. a lot of Rogers stuff does really.

one of my best favorite songs of Roger Waters solo career
the power of his texts and the intensity of his voice.

I've just discovered this song, I WAS BORN AT 4:41 AM!!
Best song out of the best solo album in Waters' career. By the way, Clapton's touch is astonishing.
This, radio kaos, and amused to death are three of the best albums that speak through time.

So many memories of hitch-hiking in the late 80's, with this tape blasting in my 'Walkman'! Roger's solo albums were works of art!

One of my top 5 favorites songs of Roger, a genius, a stunning and full of surprises genius! 🔥
Everything was amazing about this track and album. Clapton's work here is killer, especially during the solo and slow burn jam starting at 2:20
Very very great Clapton's solo, maybe the best of his career!

Wow. Even a passerby, who has never heard of Roger, can tell that this is something remarkable and unique.
No one, and I mean no one, does concept albums like Roger Waters
I agree.
Absolute perfection, still listen to the album on a regular basis after 34 years, going to see him 7-7-18, can't wait

Roger the soul of the music !

Just so good...Best song Waters did by himself.
I don't think Clapton has ever sounded better than on this song. He's really feeling it here.
I love David Guilmour but Clapton's guitar here is something outstanding!
Mr. Waters, I would love to meet you in person someday. I absolutely love your work!
