Mesa will forever be my dream tone. Had a 1x12 Roadster combo that had tone for days, but had to actually sell it this past August to offset the cost of some unforeseen medical stuff. When my bonus comes in next week I’ll be getting the ax8 to hopefully get me close. I came to your channel recently looking into reviews and audio clips for the ax8, as any good gear nut does with their endless hours of new gear research, but I subbed for the awesome tone you seem to be able to coerce out of anything. Can’t thank you and others like you enough for the work you put in to put these videos out.
My favorite tone in my Roadster was channel one with the tweed setting, gain set at the edge of breakup. I have an esp e-II eclipse with the Duncan’s in it for anything middle of the road to higher gain, but this setting on the Roadster I used my strat with the dimarzio noiseless single coils and a prs singlecut with a really low output Gibson pup in the bridge.
Timothy Lasswell the singlecut with the Ax8 will make you very happy for crunchy mesa tones, and the tweed amp models are great too. The Roadster is a beast of an amp.
Criminally underviewed channel... As much as I love the tone of a pushed classic Marshall Mesas will always have a special place in my heart. Through high school I ran a Mesa Studio Preamp and love the sound of that thing... I'll have to pull her out of storage one day when I'm state side.
Absolutely, I actually ran mine through the power section of an old Peavey VT Classic 410 my dad had and had a Rivera 2x12 ported cabinet. The open back 410 with a ported 2x12 actually sound killer together. I used that setup for jazz band in high school plus jamming with my buddies after school haha
i own this amp. probably the most versatile amp. nice modern take on a british sound that sounds like a fresh take. a quick change to 6l6s and you can get that nice american gain.
Do you still have this? I recently bought a Framus Cobra and there is something wrong with it. Thinking about getting my money back (i'm friends with the guy who I bought it from) and i've been considering this or a Mark V 25. Thoughts? :) P.S. I should mention that I already have a Rectoverb 25
This trend of using tons of bass and scooping the mids on the high gain channel of amps has to stop. Once and for all : This sounds like shit in a mix. Otherwise, cool amp :)
@@fredriksvard2603 You're actually right. It's just that I am pissed off that this scooped mids is pretty much the only one represented everywhere (in amps tests, Kemper profiles, etc...). I would just like to see more diversity.
My favorite boogie amp...this amps clean channel is superb, warm, chimes, thick just wonderful to play...very inspiring amp.
It's an amazing amp

Mesa RA, what an amp....totallly awesome tone (IMOP).... Those Mesa engineers did well with this amp.....
Probably a very underrated amp. Mesa discontinued this. I love this smp.

Mykal Anstrom I'd love to get my hands on a studio pre, great piece of gear.

Mykal Anstrom 10 and 12 inch speakers blended together is a killer combination
great demo as always!
triski zulhiman cheers.
Ok. Now we’re talking. Leon finally getting serious 💪🎶

I actually forgot about this demo! Very impressive amp, one of the best mesa's I've tried :)
WHAT A GREAT VIDEO !
Glad you enjoyed it, it's a great amp.
yes i use 2x12 royal combo on WGS speakers
Nice amp, friendly suggestion for anyone who owns one, try different speakers and cabs. Mine sounded very blah through V30's. Cheers.
Hey Leon. This sounds insane. Is this an amp you held onto, or just had for the purposes of the demo?
I own a mesa Electra dyne combo. How would you compare the royal Atlantic with the Electra dyne. Great video and playing btw.
I’ve owned both. Electra Dyne has way more bottom end but less preamp gain.
What speakers did you use? This Mesa actually sounds great.
Millo1868 v30's from memory.
Hi Leon, may I ask what cab you are playing this through?
The riffs on the clean part sounds like Hook by Blues Traveler.
I wanted one of these real bad. how does it compare to the new Triple Crown?
Sadly I haven't tried the TC yet. Hopefully soon :)
It kicks the Triple. Simpler circuits, purer tone.

Had it for a few days to demo. It's a pretty cool amp, very different from a Recto or Mark series.
The 5 favorite tones format is way better. Just turning knobs is so simp
Great amp, watching this back makes me wish I did a "proper" demo (eg 5KT).
