The line out ALSO bypasses the dsp so you can dsp each speaker individually. With the mix out it sends the dsp setup in that speaker and sends it to the rest. And it adds like 2ms delay the line out has zero delay
I agree that I wouldn't want to setup network cables for these, but you should note that there's a LOT more features/DSP available thru the app... EQ/Compressor/Delay/etc, it's pretty dope!
Nice review! I'm planning on moving to the 815p from PRX 615m's. I read about these boxes on the Prosound forums, they are highly regarded but JBL has some quality control problems. I've purchased the 818 subs, so the 815's will complete the system. Regarding the control software, JBL also has the SRX Connect app (iPad) for free, that allows full control of settings and dsp. Regarding output volume; Yes JBL decided to use a non-standard input gain of 26db (32db is more typical). Does this mean you're out of gas and they're not as loud? No, you simply have to feed them more signal. For the top boxes there are choices for the input sensitivity; Line input (21 db default), Consumer Input (33 db) and line input (45 db). The subs do not have the consumer option, so if using tops & subs you should use the line input setting, and adjust the levels with the master. Here's a cool trick to get 3 db more out of the sub's - use a Y cord and plug into both inputs. Lastly, there are some that are using the make-up gain settings in the dsp compressor to get added gain. Be sure you know what you're doing if you decide to go this route.
Great Review! I Myself Bought The Srx 828 Subs I Have 6 Now!!and Let me tell you This Guy On This Review knows what he is talking About! The Srx 815 is Problabley the best Speaker in its Category. Ev Etx Is Awesome sounds Great very Good !!but in a Battle of Sound Quality and SPL level It will Have to take Second Place The QSC Kw152 is 3rd place there all Good Speakers !but if you Do a side by side comparison The Jbl Srx 815 wins These Battle and the same will apply to the Subwoofers!!With my Respect to Everyone in Here ! Whoever says The Srx. 800 Sucks Clearly has no Experience in Pro Audio Experience! A Pro Would Never comment like that!!
Im a beginner on this and I got 2 and they sound strong and even I can say they have more bass than the QSC 153s The only think that I have trouble is with the digital display but little but little Im learning
yo so this is dope. it definitely seems that two of these tops will do the trick for most weddings and sweet sixteens etc.. it even seem's that according to what you said about the clarity and the great quality of the sound projection that u may not even need a sub at most smaller or middle sized gig's like 200 or less people... ive done a few gig's of more than 500 people but i never had any issues. but ive been using ZLPP series speakers from EV but i was looking into the ETX line but now after hearing what you said here i wanna do a sound comparison at guitar center or Sam Ash and see what i like better.
I heard these speakers and I was not very impressed with the "loudness". The clarity was awesome but JBL put a limiter on the speaker that prevents it from going loud. You can only turn it up to a certain point and it does not let you go any louder. You mentioned that you do a lot of big events, so can you use just use these speakers without subs in a school gym for a high school dance or would you say the the "loudness" is the same as the prx615?
SP Entertainment These are definitely louder than the PRX615. Not sure what you're trying to compare them to in terms of loudness. But the only speakers I know that are active and louder are the Yorkville EF500p, and probably the Parasource Yorkvilles. But I would choose the SRX815p speaker for its clarity and convenience. Clarity > Loudness every single time.
SP Entertainment Oh, I also use subwoofers at almost every single event. Sub, pole, speaker on top on both sides of my facade is the typical look of my setup.
My daughter sings and plays guitar. Been through the Cube street and Eon One....those are no longer adequate. I did rent QSC K12's and they had the right amount of power. Just not sure what buy today that I can still carry around, I am 54 years old with a lower back problem. Are these still the ones to get in 2021?
No - as a matter of fact, I would recommend the RCF NX32. They’re about the weight and size of the QSC K12.2, but even louder than these SRX! They are my new go-to speakers
I have two of them actually! They're the loudest tops I ever owned. But they're not the best sounding speaker. Something about it lacks depth in the mid-range. The audio is thin sounding. Its not that it's a bad speaker, I use them when I have really, really large events. The SRX815p sounds better, but it cannot compete in terms of loudness. Also hefty price difference.
I still really like these speakers, but, I recently posted a review on the NX32s, my new favorite powered speakers. These would be number 2. I sold my SRX815ps to a friend and he's still using them today for gigs.
Hey Dj Trev. Question: our church purchased these exact srx’s and need to hang them from the ceiling. Our dilemma is how to turn them off Is there a mode we can use so they would or can turn them off without physically climbing 🧗♀️ and turning the switch on or off? 😬
Interesting problem. I don't think the issue is turning them off. You can hook them up to a single breaker and flip the switch and turn them off, but then when you turn it back on you'd have to go back up and turn them on no matter what. I'm curious to know if hooking them up via Ethernet and controlling them from the app may help. That might be the route you should investigate.
please bring them both (Yorkville and JBL SRX816p) and run them without subs and let me know how the two compare. Turn them up to max level and walk back 50 feet and let me know which one is better. Also, does the Yorkville overheat and shut down when you run them at peak levels for a period of 4 hours. I know JBL is awesome about maintaining high levels without shutting down.
SP Entertainment Used the JBL SRX tonight at a gig, running high levels, no issues. One day I will actually do a side by side comparison. Next UA-cam video.
is there a way to block all the knobs on the back ? i just rather do any process from an external processor , its a pain in the ass when you have to uso twelve of these and set everyone up . it doesn't make sense.
Been asking this to many people w/ no response..On the fence on purchasing the Mackie SRM650 15 Inch 1600w and the PRJBL PRX715 15 Inch 2 Way 1500 speaker..was looking for more the low end sound. Suggestions? Great by the way!!
+ExcellenceSoundKrew I just got the Prx812w last night. I can't seem to get my phone to find it when I search for it, even when I press the connect button on the speaker. How do I connect my phone?
@goat I can't really advise cause I haven't gotten my hands on it just yet. However, I know you need to use an iOS device. That's all I have info wise lol. Make sure your Bluetooth is on as well, although from what I remember it's supposed to communicate via WiFi
Though this seems a great speaker I think it can't be compared to the FBT MITUS 152-A even the JBL is 2000 watts instead of 1350 watts on the FBT MITUS 152-A.
SP Entertainment I haven't gigged them yet. This weekend will be the first. I've only tried them in my yard which is pretty big, and the long throw is about the same as the Yorkville. Walking around my block, I can hear that everything travels very uniformly. You still feel the mids and bass at a long distance.
hello, do you know how the power up sequence is? is it ok to plug in the xlr, from a mixer that is turned on? then turn on the SRX?? or should turn on the SRX first, then plug in the input? thanks
hey have the same Mackie speakers looking to upgrade to the same JBL....what did you think about them compared to the Mackie i know its hard one being a 12inch and one a 15
How is the power split between the horn and woofer? I have been looking at a range of speakers that only give around 200watts to the horn. I run subs so 800watts to the woofer and only 200watts to the horn is pretty useless. Any help greatly appreciated.
What do u mean 😂 if u put the same amount of power to tweeter and lf driver that tweeter wil outsound that woofer for a football stadium 😂 it usualy from total power 1/3 usualy to hf notes 2/3 of power to lf ^^
I'm thinking of getting (2) JBL SRX835P and the 18'' duel sub. I plan on doing shows in gyms for audiences anywhere from 300-1100.....Am I going overboard or is this sufficient? Also do you recommend anything that can get the job done more cheaply? BTW I am not actually a DJ nor will I be at the events. I am the promoter and also concerned from a liability standpoint of causing ear/hearing problems(if my dj cranks it up on purpose or accidentally) but also I want a sound system that I know will get more people in the door.
+Future Celtics Owner I think you're making a good purchase. If you're actually going to have 1100 people, you may need 3 of each, maybe even 4 depending on the size of the venue. the sound would be amazing! 1100 people is a big difference from 300.
Well my idea was to get (2) of the 3 way speakers from the series you have. Also do you recommend the new 18'' duel sub from jbl? Its only 500 bucks more than the solo 18''.......I'm a noob when it comes to sound equipment, I just hate when I have hired a dj in the past and they show up with speakers that SUCK. I end up getting on the phone to and offering more money for another dj to come out asap. Also I do not mind if the speaker is larger because I have help and will be getting the Rock and Roller multicart, have not checked price yet.

ronjeremy65 The EV gear to my ears is cleaner, tighter and warmer and i have found that all of EV's powered speakers maintain great sound quality all the way up the volue range. However i can't comment on the SRX series as i have not heard it but in terms of PRX and EON, the EV's do beat them slightly. For example the 35P is a VERY clear speaker for the money, it has near the same quality as some big line array systems that i have heard. JBL 3 way boxes to me sound muddled and don't have near the same midrange punch that EV provides. Also, for my taste, the EV speakers have a nicer "snap" to the treble which means that the compression driver has been better made. (although this is very opinionated) JBL is still a very good option but i think that EV is better. And in terms of the K series and the KW series from QSC, well for the money you could beat that system with the EV. It amazes me that the ZLX12p's from EV shit all over the K series in sound quality and clarity.
