  • Hey guys, in today's Blender 2.8 video, I'm going to be showing you how to create a material which applies a random texture over multiple objects/meshes.

In the ColorRamp, If you press the arrow down (right next the minus) you'll find "Distribute Stops Evenly", so you don't need that calculator :D

omfg I didn't think it would be this complicated. Wish it had a built in shader.

      its not complicated, just mixing

I wish it could import the images as a sequence, and then randomly pick from the images in the sequence, so you dont have this awkward tree

@@garyburke6156 thats just a normal node tree would be cool if there were a random mix shader :d

How to setup this if we have odd number of image textures like 3 or 5 ? I have 3 download textures from a ceramic tiles website. The box contains 6 tiles in which each pairs have same corresponding textures.

For me it doesn't work. All objects are pink now, as if the image texture is missing.
when I bypass the randomness (i.e. put every image texture directly in the material output, they are visible. But somewhere this setup is wrong. (I work with Blender 2.91)

Nice tutorial!! Can you make another tutorial of how to make the same thing but only one image texture then when you duplicate it, it offsets the uv

This is absolutely awesome man! What if i have textures which are .png with alpha that i need to apply on another surface? For example i have this old book tome with flipping pages animation, which i already set to have a random base of paper texture for each page, but now i'm trying to use your great node group setup to set random writings (with alpha) on each page. Using your method and applying the color ramp node to the Fac of the Mix Rgb node in which i add the other base of the pages, somehow worked, but as the final output is a mix shader i get the texture of the writings mixing with the base, hence creating this fading effect. Is there a way to keep the writings in vivid black while still keeping the base of the pages? Hope you or any other good soul that will read this will help. Sorry for the superlong comment, but i didn't know how to explain it shorter lol. Thanks again for this great video!

It seems the color ramp has a limit of 32 color stops. bummer since I created something that has 36 textures... :/

Why doesn't blender support importing a folder of textures? Do you have to import hundreds or thousands of them one by one?

D5 render does not support Blender nodes. How to bake the material?

uh, so, im just trying to randomize 3, so I get lost when you get to the color ramps. I'm trying to ultimately randomize different colors of paper with different pngs of writing across the pieces of paper.... anyone able/willing to give me some advice? it would be tremendously appreciated

    Anyway nice tutorial.
