- My new favorite chili recipe is warm, cozy, and nourishing! It's a hearty turkey pumpkin chili made with ground turkey, canned pumpkin, and black beans. It’s a quick-cooking chili that’s seasoned with warm spices like cumin, chili powder, and cinnamon - healthy comfort food perfect for a cold day!

TURKEY PUMPKIN CHILI WITH BLACK BEANS
1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1 onion chopped
1 bell pepper chopped
2 carrots chopped
3 cloves garlic minced
1 lb. lean ground turkey
14.5-ounce can of diced tomatoes
15-ounce can of pumpkin puree
3 cups low-sodium organic chicken broth
1 tbsp. chili powder
1 tsp. ground cumin
1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
15-ounce can of black beans
pinch Salt and pepper to taste
Heat a large pot over medium-high heat and add olive oil, onion, bell pepper, carrots, and garlic. Season everything with salt and pepper and sauté for 6-8 minutes or until the veggies are beginning to become tender.
Add in ground turkey and break it up with your spatula. You want to cook the turkey until it is opaque.
Add in chili powder, cumin, and cinnamon, along with one more pinch of salt and some black pepper. Next add the pumpkin puree, diced tomatoes, and chicken broth. Give it all a stir, turn the heat up to high and let it come to a boil.
Once boiling, add in the black beans, reduce the heat, and simmer for 20-30 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
NOTES
Storing: Place any leftovers in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. It will last about 4 to 5 days, making it great for meal prep. If you plan to keep it longer than that, this chili freezes well.
Freezing: To freeze the chili, place it in freezer-safe containers or resealable gallon-sized freezer bags. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight, then reheat it on medium heat on the stovetop. You can also reheat it for about 2 minutes in the microwave.

in the fall i buy a large organic pumpkin cut it up in sections, steam in a inch of water, scrape out of the skin, and freeze the puree in 1 to 2 cup amounts. the flavor from this puree is much better than canned puree. this activity takes an hour or two, then have. puree for all your pumpkin needs for the winter.

I’ve made this recipe twice and loved it both times. I used Dani’s recipe to the letter the first time. The second time I added a couple of extra spices and used the Glen Muir fire roasted tomatoes with green chiles. It was great! Thanks for this recipe. The pumpkin is the key! ❤

I discovered this recipe on your website about 3 years ago, and my hubby raved about it. We make this several times every fall and winter time. It is our favorite chili!! We do live in beef country, so we use local ground beef (very lean and delicious) and I like beans, so we use 2 cans of black beans. And we usually just top it off with some shredded cheese. Yum!

Hey Dani, this recipe is so timely and it looks Delish!! Our temperature here in the area where I am from in Canada, just dropped significantly yesterday. You have no idea how I welcome a recipe like this. I have never made a chili before with cinnamon or pumpkin, so I am so excited to try this and best of all, I have all the ingredients needed to make it. I just made this chili and I have to admit I wasn’t sure about the cinnamon and pumpkin but omg! It was delicious like a warm hug or wearing your favorite sweater on a chilly night. The pumpkin gives it a richness and a slight sweetness to match the savory. I made it with ground beef and it was a home run! Thanks for the great recipe! The pumpkin seeds on top also gave it a nice crunch!

Why put dead turkey in it? GROSS! I know you can cook without putting dead animals in your food because some of your other recipes are amazing... disappointed that this one has bird in it. (sigh...)
Why did you go with the enameled cast iron? You have to baby that pot. You can easily chip that and it has a temperature limit.
It's one of my favorite pots - I don't feel the need to baby it at all.
