The behavior of these Inu type dogs, both Akita and Shiba, seem similar to me to that of a "domesticated" fox actually. Slightly aloof of unknown animals and people, very intelligent, but can choose when they feel like listening to commands, if that makes any sense. Kind of interesting

They are a large and dominating breed and you need to understand how to work with this type of dog. The dog has too know who is the alpha. This doesn't mean carrying around a horse whip. It means conveying who leads the "pack". I have done a lot of full rough house play with this breed, and without a bite suit. The one's I know comprehend it is a game and are good at understanding limits and rules. In my experience they can also be very good with children, even adoptive. And I don't mean just the owner's children. Great breed. Smart. Also remarkably quiet.

i want an akita too but the internet scares you like they talk that its an agressive big dog, but is it friendly and when he pulls the leash is it hard to hold him?
dogs or any living being is never aggressive by nature but only becomes due to the circumstances and how it is treated. however, there is always a way to turn that aggression around 😊

Jeder sieht die Erziehung eines Akitas anders. Man braucht sehr viel Geduld und Disziplin. Daher kommt es darauf an wie geduldig und diszipliniert der/die Besitzer/in ist.
Vielen dank für die Antwort :) Wir stehen jetzt kurz vor dem Kauf eines Akita Welpen.. Wir sind ne ziemlich große Familie und haben auch zwei Katzen und nen großen Garten. Wäre es bei guter Erziehung und Hundeschule denn irgendwann möglich den Akita ohne Leine auf ner Wiese oder in unserem Garten zu lassen oder ist der Jagdinstinkt einfach zu groß?
Jus do a lot of research..typically they are one human dogs or family solo dog. But totally depends and if you get a male it cannot live with another male,same with females..some females need to be the alpha even if the male dog is another breed,so submissive companion is best. Some are ok w kids and cats, and not others. This isn't a dog for inexperienced dog owners or owners who don't understand in detail what this dog is about. No harsh training because they are sensitive and smart as a whip. An aggressive dog is usually from abuse and maltreatment or training. However the Akita is and was bred to be a fighting dog and are prey driven. So tiny mammals are not usually safe with them, which can include kids and cats, like I said, depends the dog. Understanding their history and dna is important. American Akitas seem to have more aggression as they were trained to hunt bears, so possibly they may have more aggressive tendencies. They are NOT dangerous dogs, the most dangerous thing about them is an owner who doesn't understand and respect their nature and personalities. They are very astute and loyal, and extremely loving. Old comment answer, but for anyone else wondering.
The Akitas are the most stubborn beasts I have ever spent considerable time with. To imply they are Prey Driven is an understatement and beyond. The Akita is very loyal and NOT Dog Park candidates.

Yes! Yuki is curious but also careful to Strangers. Once he trusts someone he is very gentle.
