The original origins of the characters are essential to the entire TMNT universe. You wouldn’t have a Batman whose parents are still alive, a Spiderman with an Uncle Ben that was living, or a Superman that wasn’t from Krypton. And you can’t have TMNT with out Splinters connection to the Shredder.

WHY ISNT ANYONE TALKING ABOUT MIKEY! they absolutely destroyed Mikey. Mikey has always been the soul of the boys. The light, fun party dude. Its as if they switched Mikey's personality with Donnie. Why is Donnie cracking more jokes than the actual jokster MIkey? Mikey has the least lines aswell.

Exactly!! Mikey barely made any jokes and Donnie for some reason was a confident jokester, rather than the tech whizz that the Turtles fail to understand. Donnie being into video games and anime feels more like a Mikey thing, especially when Donnie should be into more sophisticated things.

The movie wouldn't be so bad if the origin story wasn't retarded, it would also be better if they didn't shove the entire movie with lame pop culture references.

I hate how modern Hollywood has this insatiable urge to "modernize" older franchises by completely changing aspects that are integral to the story, or overhauling it to the point that it is only a shell (pun not intended) of the original.
This movie seems to be in the former camp, and while it will be nowhere near as bad as Disney's 'Snow White' or Seth Rogen's last project 'Santa Inc.' it is still a perfect example that Hollywood thrives on nostalgia and lip service about being a "fan" of a franchise, because no matter which iteration of TMNT you grew up with, Splinter's connection to Hamato Yoshi is a constant in TMNT lore.

    • @chey6073
      @chey6073 11 місяців тому

TMNT has always done this though? The franchise started in 1984 and has been changing ever since. Do you seriously think the franchise would have lasted this long if it hadn’t changed with time?

    • @darrylferguson3622
      @darrylferguson3622 11 місяців тому +1

@chey6073 My issue is not the concept of "change" itself, but the logic of the changes. Series will inevitably change over time. For instance, you only need one glance to see that Optimus Prime in Transformers Prime is quite different from Optimus in Transformers Armada.
What gets under my skin is when showrunners make changes to satisfy their ego regardless of if it makes sense or to purposefully drum up controversy.
You are completely right that TMNT would have faded into obscurity without change. My point is that the changes here did not feel sensible.
For comparison, the Shredder in the 1980s cartoon is a goofball, which is significantly different from how he is in the original comics, but it works because he is still a competent fighter, and his bumbling behaviour matches the tone of the show.
When TMNT 2003 decided to change Master Splinter's origins and make him a mutated rat, they kept the ties to the original comics by making him Hamato Yoshi's pet, who learned his moves through mimicry.
Donatello, in the 2012 version of the TMNT has an awkward crush on April, but it works because it plays into the trope of "nerdy guy that is awkward around girls" and he is the "nerd" among the four brothers.
The Seth Rogen movie made Splinter a mutated rat that taught the turtles how to fight by having them watch UA-cam videos... does that sound like a ninjitsu master to you?
Rise of the TMNT practically gave the directors a manual on how to make Splinter have a more light-hearted, 80's feel without tossing his martial arts background to the wind, by making him a Bruce Lee homage that got mutated, with his skills getting a little washed up over the years.
April's design in the new movie is so unlike the character that without her yellow jacket, the fact that her prior incarnation was also black (ROTMNT), and them mentioning her name often, she could have easily passed as an original character called "July Washington" which the film for some baffling reason did not do.
So why not? Well, because the directors know that "modernizing" a show or franchise, a.k.a "changing things for the sake of getting to say you did it," is controversial and drums up attention on the product. They know that they have the benefit of telling the older fans to "f- off" since it's a work for a newer generation, failing to realize that the word of mouth from older fans is valuable.

Here are my 4 reasons why this movie was disappointing, 1 the origin story was lazy and awful. 2 the turtles called master splinter dad. 3 the word sus is used in the movie. 4 the whole movie was jam packed with pop culture references.

I too was upset what they did with Splinter. Spot on observation. I'm for modernizing and making things more relevant, but man Seth, Judy like Michael Bay, cared nothing about how to make this an authentic Turtle movie.
It was funny at times, and I like the way they made them more like teenagers in the movie, but they really messed the characters, especially Splinter.

Okay, but what if Splinter is an unreliable narrator? In the 2003 and 2012 series he completely omits his connection to the foot. I don't know why he'd omit being Yoshi, or being his pet, but it can still be fixed, IMO. They can also bring in the reincarnation angle in the sequel from the IDW comics. That'd be badass, and it'd explain why they're such proficient fighters despite only having learned from movies.

I don't really hate the movie but I get where you're coming from. One thing that you didn't mention which I like to point out is even though the kids voice acting the turtles is great, the turtles are...bland. They all feel the same and it just seems like they don't have their own personalities. Donnie didn't do anything nerdy except make an AOT reference in the end, Mikey was just...there and wasn't really that goofy or clumsy, he was mainly chill actually, Leo barely acted like a leader, all he did was give a speech in the end and that's it, and Raph had this cool urge of rage to fight but that was only in one fighting scene and we didn't see much of it. Turtles barely had almost to no character development and when they supposedly did, it didn't feel like they developed at all or anything.

Leo should be more level headed leader who is the most mature out of his brothers but that don't mean he can't have silly moments, raph should be in more rage, sarcastic, and all action, and he can have silly moments too. To start I don't like Donatello's voice he sounds like a little kid idk it just doesn't fit.Don is also level head and more logical of the group. The glasses were unneccesary I'm tired of that trope where glasses= nerd. he was nerd without them. Mike wasn't any different. When it comes to references I would expect it from mike but not too repetitive he supposed to be the most lighthearted one of the group but that doesn't make him silly or stupid. I don't know man, this just seems a bit out of touch. I think there's so many versions of the turtles already and this one is just another take for a new generation. You only really talked about how upset you were about how they changed the origin story of the turtles, but as someone who grew up watching TMNT 2003, I actually connected with this movie more. At the end of the day it's about the characters journey and to me they felt like the turtles. I enjoyed the new take on their origin story, and I'm excited to see how they will go about changing things in the future, especially with the ending of the movie putting us in territory we've never seen before!

Personally I enjoyed the movie. Mainly the fact that they had actual teenagers voicing the characters. I really think the biggest downfalls of this movie were April and the weird backstory of splinter. I thought it would have been very cool to see Jackie Chan playing splinter knowing his backstory but this very normal rat was kind of lame. I understand the wokeness but the April/Leo thing was just weird. I didn’t mind the minimal usage of weapons as Seth Rogan clearly talked about focusing more on the fact that they are teenagers.
I truly think if they kept some of the original origin story it would have been much better. It was a refreshing that Leo wasn’t the already wise and infamous leader and Mikey wasn’t a stereotypical surfer (mainly because that’s outdated). Donatello was cool again with a more modern take on nerd, however it would’ve been cool to show more intelligence while still keeping that teenager vibe. Raph could’ve been seen as eh or cool. Personally I saw it as him before becoming the more dark angry vigilante style character(since this is like a first outing origin) however could be seen as them trying to just change him from being angry.
I really think if they didn’t change that cheesy splinter backstory and gave april more of an original look it would’ve been a lot better (meanin she was always generally an attractive character).
I’m not sure if you’d agree but if those parts were changed it could’ve been one of the better iterations

There was even moments that had me in tears! Great film. Would very much rate it to younger and adult audiences.

I think there is a connection to the Shredder visa vie the post credit scene. If Utrom wants Shredder and the foot to go after Splinter, then there must be missing pieces to the narrative that wasn't revealed to us yet. I don't think they would ask Shredder specifically to go after Splinter and the turtles unless there was some sorta personal history there. All in all I enjoyed the movie thoroughly.

Why do people like Mutant Mayhem (and the 2020s, for that matter) so much and are excited by the upcoming MM sequel and Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles anyways?!
My best guess is that it’s all for the wrong reasons, like they would defend anything by the same company that gave us Dan Schneider, wouldn’t stop owning Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (though Rise of the TMNT does slap), made Ariana Grande big despite her adultery towards her ex-husband (while Jennette is the more unpopular one despite being less problematic and more realistic, yet people choose her crazy-in-a-vile-way character from iCarly/Sam & Cat). Honestly, they should have the same standards) and defiled Stephen Hillenburg’s grave for money (meme aside, that means whether or not they killed him; they probably didn’t, but still, they would disrespect his death by making SpongeBob more and more popular when it really should’ve ended with the first movie in late 2004).
It’s like the don’t want to see April O’Neill in her 1990s design even though it’s not too offensive and actually the most attractive she’s ever been even after all these years, I mean, if they think her design in the original TMNT show is whitewashing, then I guess Megan Fox (from Bayformers 1 & 2 as Mikaela Banes) as April O’Neill would be too and these mid-2010s TMNT movies she was in (mainly the original) are exactly how you make TMNT disappointing and Mutant Mayhem/Nickelodeon/Seth Rogen/Dan Schneider shills just don’t see it.

The whole Splinter origin story was hilarious. The personalities of the turtles were definitely there but im thinking theyll all be brought out to the forefront during the next one. Leo was definitely the leader. Donnie was the only one trusted with a phone he was able to drive so well. What's even worse is if you watch the post-credits scene they seem to be making him into a mercenary (similar to bane, Kraven the hunter and Deathstroke) and what's even worse they spoil the identity of this version of the shredder in the opening scene of mutant Mayhem by making him the guard that got his I scratched out by super fly

This is very much targeted towards groups of teens.
Not even with that point, the visuals in this movie were highly experimental and stylized to look like doodles or comics.
And, it’s refreshing that Shredder isn’t here in my opinion. When was he not the big bad of the series?
Also, the new direction for the plot in my opinion is kind of good. I feel like it was done well, especially for a PG movie.
I feel like mainly kids are supposed to enjoy this film, as it’s not half serious. But, I don’t see why an adult would have much of a reason to trash on it.

Just came back from watching it, really disappointing. Love the animation, but yeah, the story is all over the place with its tone. Like two different writers working on it. One, you got some really cool fight scenes with few comic book moments but then "drunken stoner" needed to change the origin completely and make gross jokes on supporting characters and bad dialogues for villains. Should've just made Baxter Stockman into a fly so the tragedy is real. Superfly is an annoying forgettable villain. The turtles' designs were great but didn't like that they wanted to go to school, very lame in the end. April O'Neil, why not make her fit at least. Should've went for a tomboy type of reporter, similar to how current Lois Lane looks otherwise that's not April O'Neil at all. Also why make her vomit? Really pushing the grossness on her here. It really becomes a mean-spirited type of movie not a fun dark one like the 1990s. Don't get me started with Splinter now french kissing another mutant...

This movie is clearly made for gen z kids not thats a bad thing but to me the modern slang and constant obnoxious pop culture jokes just didn't sit right with me. every version the team makes pop culture references but in this movie it was overdone and intrusive when watching it. To me its not thats what tmnt is about just missed the mark but wasnt a bad movie just completely different take on the tmnt that i found slightly disrespectful to long time fans of the more mature takes on the team.

Sad thing if kids have no idea who TMNT is they will think this is the true story of them. Real Smooth Seth Rogen. I really searched the internet as way to watch it out of curiosity. Couldn't even finish watching it. I watched just enough of it to say. Why did Seth Rogen say he is fan? A fan don't do this. A fan makes it better. I watch a lot of fan made stuff. Ok, so I feel like you only pointed out the film’s flaws (which feel more subjective than objective) and didn’t really point out its strengths (besides the voice acting). Like I’m fine if you don’t like this movie, but calling it garbage makes it sound like “this movie sucks and that’s a fact.” And if you’re gonna be like that, which I’m saying you are or aren’t, you gotta at least be fair. Also, you cut out a lot of the interview with Seth Rogen. He said he was a huge TMNT fan as a kid, and that he never really saw the TEENAGE ascent of the turtles emphasizes. A lot of the creative decisions made were made so that the turtles and splinter can feel more like a real family that happened to be mutants. Splinter being a normal street rat is supposed to paint Splinter as an average stay at home dad, rather than someone who’s from the Hamato clan and must continue his ninja legacy among his turtle sons. If anything I like this version of Splinter more than the Mirage Splinter because it feels like he actually loves his sons. I think Seth Rogen was trying to be more innovative rather than being unfaithful to the source material. Like, as a huge TMNT fan myself I’m working on my own TMMT comic and yeah I’m making some changes. I don’t want to make a carbon copy of the 2003 series, I want to do my own thing. Yes, there needs to be some level of respect to the source material. Michael Bay originally wanted the TMNT to be alien turtles from outer space who came to earth. That isn’t innovation. That sucks. I think Seth Rogen did a great job balancing respect for the source material with innovating the TMNT franchise. And besides, almost every version of the TMNT has changed up the original lore in some way. The 80s cartoon made Splinter Hamato Yoshi, the 2003 cartoon made Shredder and Krang the same dude, 2012 made Krang a species rather than a individual Utrom, and Rise was bay crap insane but still kept the sole themes and aspects that made the TMNT, well, the TMNT. Just as long as they focus on the themes of brotherly love, found family, and heroes coming from the most unlikely of places, etc then you got yourself a certified TMNT classic. Another thing is that there’s no giant laser in the sky thing. That was deliberate misinformation. And Superfly isn’t THAT generic. He try to give humans a second chance after murdering Stockman, but they still tried to kill him even the second time. He sees humans as irredeemable and wants the mutants to become the dominate species, not humans. He doesn’t want to kill them, he wants to be over them. If anything he’s a more extreme version of Splinter, a foil of him, which I think is very interesting. Plus the Turtles and April’s character development is very well made. They do an amazing job at exploring the theme of acceptance, which is what Out of the Shadows tried to do but failed miserably. Although I feel like this version is obviously targeted towards a Gen Z audience, I know a lot of older people who still loved this film. I do wish Nickelodeons would try to make a balance of TMNT content targeted towards older fans with TMNT content targeted towards younger, newer fans. I understand why you don’t like it, and I’m not saying you should like it, I just wish you could’ve given it more of a chance. I know you’re probably ain’t reading allat 💀 but I felt like I needed to turn my rant faucet.
