    Thanks to the dude who said he did all of these and his splints stopped hurting... I did em all too, first day of Splint-nursing/strengthening ...and THIS IS NO.JOKE!!! FEELS STRONGER AND HAPPIER ALREADY!
    (I Have been icing, elevating and have kept it ace-wrapped tight until compression socks arrive as well) DEFINITELY making this a morning and evening routine!!
    🦵🏻Ive decided i am taking this injury as an opportunity to strengthen and correct--rather than pout and puddle!!💪🏼
    🤔And maybe looking into alternative running shoes, in place of my Zeros😬...?

    Doc...can you help about burning sensation in the calf while walking or standing?

  • @hikerJohn
    @hikerJohn 3 роки тому

    That's hard to do at 65 years old. I have an ankle pain (ankle to lower shin) that I think is related to foot drop but I'm not a doctor so I'm not sure. When I hike trails it starts getting sore after about 1 miles and it quits hurting after about 3 miles. When I walk city streets it hurts more and starts sooner but it does go away at about 3-4 miles. My left foot is worse and I can actually hear my shoe slapping the ground when it's at it's worst. I try to avoid walking on pavement but I wish I could walk/jog on streets. It's been doing this for 30 years. It never bothers me (so far) when I do long distance backpacking. The reason I hike is to keep in shape for backpacking.

      5:44 "...it's the *weakness* to this muscle that's causing the shin splints"
      "The pain of shin splints is from the *inflammation* of the muscles, tendons, and bone tissue around your shin" (Medline, et al). Inflammation and 'strength' are not synonymous.
      "Shin splits are an overuse injury" (et al). The muscles and tendons become more prone to inflammation because they have *not* been properly strengthened prior to, improper body mechanics/running/striking tendencies, and overall: overloading the muscle/tendons area with more force than it is capable of supporting. (Repeated imbalanced/eccentric) Impact pulls the tendons/muscles away from the bone.
      If all aspects remain untreated and ignored, stress fractures are inevitable.
      Strengthening the muscles not only nurses the inflammation, blood flow and strength of the areas in need, but also reminds the body--and brain--of corrections, so that when we are ready to continue training, the body is ready too.
