    Great video. That lens is going to be the main lens on my next trip to Paris. Need wide view for videos and stills of the city. And if I would need a tighter shot, I switch to APS-C mode for that. Breathing comp will be enabled for sure, and I am glad that this lens is supported for that feature. Subscribed. Just in case, I will have a backup Sony 35mm f/1.8 lens, but only if the 20mm lens will fall to the ground.

    Im getting my a7iv this week and im doubting so hard between a tamron 17-28 or this 20mm 1.8.. it rwally want to do more astro soon, but im doubting if im gping to mis the slight zoom of 18-28. I do get a 24-70 sigma aswell

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 роки тому

      Hey Mark, if I remember right the tamron is an f2.8, right? If so I’d go for the Sony for Astro as I suspect wider aperture will be more impactful than the zoom. You’ve also got clear image zoom and crop mode to get some more reach from the Sony if needed so you’re not solely limited to 20mm. Both are good lenses but those are my thoughts - let me know what you go for and have a great day 👏

    Hi DB, have you ever considered the Samyang/Rokinon 18mm 2.8 for vlogging purposes?
    The 20mm 1.8 G is of course superior(I own it)..
    but it's 373g vs 145g for the samyang 18mm 2.8. (suprisingly FE but 79g lighter than the 12mm F2 APSC)
    I've been watching a lot of your zv e10 reviews & zv1 reviews & keep thinking that.
    A7C + Sony 20 1.8 = 882g (+needs mic)
    A7C + samyang 18mm = 654g (+ needs mic)
    ZV E10 + sigma 16mm(got this too) = 769g
    ZV E10 + samyang 12mm F2 = 588g
    ZV E10 + samyang 18 = 509g (but crop=~27mm)
    ZV1 + ulanzi wide angle = 532g (in-built ND)
    With the A7C + samyang 18mm being just 66g heavier (+31g rode, +24.9g dji, +29g comica wireless receivers) than your last vlog ZV E10 + samyang 12mm..
    Wouldn't the lowlight advantage (also exposure advantage for high framerate for catalyst browse), supposed better AF, & the in-body stabilization option be worth it? (though that 509g is exactly what I find comfortable for prolonged camera wielding with my non-dominant hand)
    Then the ZV-1... who seems to have it all.. has a bit less reliable AF in the dark (in your review), the wide angle lens (in my mind)makes it front heavy which makes it feel heavier in hand, & has a weak-ass 45min battery life in use.
    As such, I'm leaning towards the dji pocket2 as a handier vlogging option to pair with the A7C + 18 2.8 as a portability meets compact quality pair. The zv-1 is the better all-rounder though, with an in-built optical zoom to 70mm, insane slow-motion, & in-built ND... ugh.. money.
    I will have to try my best to not buy 1-2 of the 4 listed cameras above.
    I don't own the samyang yet, but it's in my cart.. I have the 24GM, 20G, & 16 sigma.. so I'll probably sell the sigma.. I'm having a hard time selling the sonys~such good lenses, but both wide angles + the 18mm is kinda hard to justify. Sometimes I think I want to sell the 20G but it has such a great semi-macro close focusing distance which only my hard-to-handhold 135mm G can match.
    Or we could just sell everything & stop this madness..

      Hey Twenty, thanks for such a thoughtful and detailed comment.
      It's definitely worth trying a few different weights just holding objects if you can. Since using the a7iv recently I can testify to the fact that while heavier setups are definitely noticeable you will also adapt fairly seamlessly to relatively small differences.
      The 18mm f2.8 is definitely of interest but I've just moved house and been sorting a lot of expensive problems so lens purchases are taking a temporary backseat haha - plus my experience with Samyang has been positive aside from low light AF - and I do like low light vlogs when I get the chance haha!
      Let me know what you decide as it's all very well considered and interesting, plus I envy the 24GM! But as you say - it's easy to get caught up on gear, whereas ideally we create first and foremost and the gear becomes a natural solution to actual problems or expansions we want to address:)

    I've tried both this lens and camera and I cant get the camera to be super steady while holding it by hand. I enabled the active steadyshot with manual 20mm focal length set but it doesnt seem to be helping. any ideas? I'm not sure if I'm asking too much out of this camera+lens combo or something is wrong with my image stabilization or I just have very shaky hands. I have steadyshot comparison videos if you're interested.

    And there, I was just considering if I should sell my 20mm F1.8G in order to procure the 14mm F1.8 GM.
    While your video makes a good case, the additional range options would be true for the 14mm GM lens also - just at an overall wider view...
    What do you think of the Sony's 14mm GM lens?

    • @FKuoni
      @FKuoni 3 роки тому +1

      For me the perfect lens would be a 16mm 1.8
      16mm for vlogging crope mode 24mm and with all the sony stuff u can make i would be around a 45mm maybe ?

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  3 роки тому

      Hey Builder, awesome to hear from you. I think it comes down to preference. 14, for my taste, is actually a bit too wide and I find outside vlogging it gets a bit too fisheye/GoPro for my taste. But that subjectivity is key.
      I wouldn't shoot a movie to look like Tarrantino does for instance but that aesthetic absolutely works for his style and I can enjoy it in that context - it comes down to the look you're aiming for:)

    After rebate I can get the A7SIII for $1100 more than the A7c. Do you think it's worth the price difference for longevity purposes?

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 роки тому

      Hey J, it depends a lot on your use case. If it's primarily video and you'll get A LOT of benefit from the advantages like 4k120, slightly better low light etc then a7siii may be the way to go. It comes down to whether the extra benefits are going to be worth the extra cash. Both cameras will be more than viable for many years to come in my opinion so your use case is the most important consideration.Thanks for the interesting Q, consider subbing if you like the content and have a great weekend!
