Honestly the best review of a lens I have ever seen. Seeing the real world use was great and I found myself watching the whole vlog even though I haven’t watched you before!
That's the best way to make a review. We can actually see how it looks on vlog. I ordered mine yesterday, keep watching review video while I'm waiting for the delivery :D
second that! But sometimes it can also be easier when alone unless you're going with other creators, cause 'normal' people are not gonna wanna wait around for you to get the shot 😅
I know you’ve graded this but wow, you’ve got this lens looking absolutely epic. Tons of character but also crispness, and the subject separation at 1.8 is amazing for a 20mm. Massive effort for this video and the peak was beautiful. Great work.
I picked up the Sony a7c and the 20mm 1.8 ... can't wait to use this bad boy ! The kit balances with no problem at all on a Feiyutech G6 Max without a sweat
Awesome review, mate. I own this lens for a couple of weeks now and truly love it on my A7IV. It's built like a GM, lightweight, razor sharp, not too wide and becomes a 30mm 2.7 with 14mp in crop mode. I wish Sony would make more G primes like this. Maybe a new 50mm 1.8 🤤
My wife and I are on the outdoors quite often and I’m looking for a native lens for my sony a7iv. You sir, have convince me to go this route, I loved everything about it.
I really really really enjoyed this video. It's on another Level. The way you actually show the capability of the lense and camera while keeping us entertain is what keep this type of review better than the rest that we found out here in UA-cam. Thank you so much 😉😉😉
i just found ur channel recently with the video about the sigma 24-70mm lense and i already knew i was in for a treat :D this was a beautiful vid man !
I love this lens. Great for landscape and environmental style photography. It’s close enough to 24mm that you can do a slight crop on the r series to get a 24mm field of view with plenty of detail.
the 20mm G is my favorite video lens. I never thought of using it because I had a 24mm GM, but a good friend let me try it out and I absolutely loved it ever since
Best content that i have seen in a long time!!!!!! Dunna keep it up!!!!! I'm tired of the same reviews that Gerald, Matti and others do. they only do a quick test and shoot around their studio..... you actually took the time to go out and shoot something awesome with the lens and then talk about the performance in a real world situation!!!!
Ultrawide with bokeh is where it's at. Perfect vlog, indoor, landscape, astro lens. Wide and fast, good AF, quiet, compact and lightweight! Ticks all the boxes for me.
Dude I been using an old tamron 17-28 on my a7iii for years. Super miss bokeh life and been looking at this lens. You just sold me brah. Thanks for the video
Came for the lens review, ended up staying and watching great vlog and story. I'm definetly buying this lens, and man, what a beautiful way to recommend lens. By far the best review for me. Thank you and keep it up
I have this lens. Love it! I use it on my A7III for astro and for landscapes. You can crop to 24mm easily without losing a ton of resolution, and the compact size is amazing.
This lens was my first and I absolutely love it. Just worked out as it was releasing, I was getting my first full frame mirrorless and wanted a lens for travel as well as live streaming. It's perfect for both, but I just picked up a 35mm to try something new 😅. Glad you're enjoying it too! Awesome video as always, thanks for the content!
Been subscribed for a while but I just rediscovered why. Three video wormhole in now. Your vids are easily the most engaging photography based vlog/reviews I’ve seen.
The Sony 20mm is my favorite astrophotography lens as of late and I've been working on integrating it into my landscape photography more and more. Great, sharp little lens for the price.
Love you videos and how u show it with real world vlogging examples. Just a doubt. For casual vlogging which will be better Sony 14mm GM or 20mm f1.8G. Please reply at d earliest.thanks
The lens hasn't left my camera body since I got it around a month or so ago. Just a hobbyist taking photos of the family, but it's such a nice lens to use and gives such awesome results even on the ancient a7rII body.
Now I know why these mountains are called “Rocky Mountains”. I’d love to see them one day, 😌it’ so wonderful. Excellent video, not only a simple review but rather a real life test of a lens. You have done such a work, doing some trails twice or several times for posing the camera and filming yourself. 💪This lens seems very interesting for both full frame and APSC use and for traveling. I don’t know if you get this comment to a 3 years old video, nevertheless good luck for Edmonton in the upcoming playoffs. 👍☺
The amount of effort to record this vlog is surreal. How many times you went back and forward to get those shots???? Love it!! I have to subscribe now ❤️❤️
We just got this lens in the mail today for our first full frame camera (A7C). Now we feel much better about buying it. Just subscribed to your channel as well 👍☺️
Damn. You gave justice to the beautiful view you have there. I'm also using the 16-35 f2.8 GM for all my vlogs but there are times that I wish it is small and light. I would love to try the 20mm but I currently own the 24mm and I feel like it is my most versatile lens for "Photography". For vlogging though I feel that 24mm is tight at arms lenght even with a small tripod. This video makes me wanna get the 20mm immediately hahaha
hey man! thanks for this review and real world testing of the lens. just so you know out of all the videos comparing the 20mm f1.8 vs 24mm f1.4, this video won me over to the 20mm. ;)
Awesome video! I watched the whole thing! I just got my Lens but am a newbie so its all been a bit of a steep learning curve. Hope it matches up well with my ZV E 1 Have a great day!
One disadvantage in my opinion is the crop you get when using active stabilisation for the a7s iii, you end up with a 22mm focal length ( which is not too tight but sometimes it is not wide enough
Great video, watched it a few times.lots of effort you put in with the static shots, I usually go handheld for vlogging, although in NYC I wouldn’t leave my camera setup! Maybe you used the zoom at around 5:12? Hard to tell. Great video!
Also recently picked up this lens, but was kinda regretting not going for a zoom, and haven't used it much (it's been a month), but after seeing this I feel like I gotta take it out for a spin! Great video, looks amazing out there!!
Great video Dunna! I can see the use of this lens for a landscape photographer and some specific video use. But I've tried it out myself on my Sony A7 IV and when using both active steadyshot and focus breathing compensation, this lens is at least 25mm. When comparing the focal lengths with my Sony 16-35mm f4, I noticed that the 20mm 1,8 G is wider than the 16-35 when set to 20mm. So the actual focal length is around 19mm, that is when active steadyshot is turned off, as well as focus breathing compensation off. All the cropping that comes with Sonys great new stabilization and breathing comp makes it bad (too tight) for vlogging in my opinion. Better of with a Tamron 17-28mm f2,8 instead of it for that case. The distortion when photographing people isn't nice either with the 20mm. It's a lot easier to compose and get a natural look with a 24mm when shooting people. So I sent the 20mm 1,8 G back to the shop. Also, I'm selling my Sony 16-35mm f4 though, to only roll with the Tamron 17-28mm f2,8. If I am to grab myself a wide angle prime, then it would be the 24mm f1,4 GM. The difference in bokeh between it and the 20mm f1,8 G is well worth it from what I've seen. And a lot of the time, I end up shooting at 24mm with the Tamron 17-28mm.
I really enjoy having this lens. I just love introducing some distortion into my photography from time to time - it's a nice visual change from the 35 or 50 that we see a lot in environmental portraiture or photojournalistic type of stuff. Sometimes it's just as effective at drawing attention to a subject as a shallow depth of field from a different focal length.
Just got mine last week and used it the first time for some street photography. Never used a lens this wide, it was cool and challenging. I’m new to it all so learning different focal lengths is such a interesting thing. The first time I looked through my viewfinder it’s hard to believe how much is in frame lol
Killer shots man! When you were hand held, was active stabilization turned on? All the shots look super steady, but I expected it to be less wide than what you got.
Indeed I could NOT see where you used the 70-200mm BUT past the first few shots I just sat back and enjoyed the show lol 😂 Great video as always Dunna! A1 man! 💯
Love the Tamron 17-28mm F2.8mm! Perfect balance between size and capability, the zoom range allows for more creative composing, specially of B-Roll. It’s only 50g heavier than the 20mm (compared to the 16-35mm which is about 300g heavier)
I look Tamron 17-28 and Sony 20. Can't decide what to buy and my choice was sony because it's f/1.8 and it's sharper than Tamron. Sony not 20 mm, before 18.5-19mm
Well, thank you for this excellent review, man. You really helped me, and I also just enjoyed to watch. You're inspiring. Brilliant job! Hello from the Swiss mountains

My Sony 20mm lives on my A7RIII. I shoot a lot of landscape and astro/aurora so 20mm is perfect. I had both the Sigma 14mm art and the Sony 24mm GM but sold both after I got the 20mm.
There is a reason that high end lens makers like Zeiss don't go wider than 18, I have just purchased the 20 1.8 and it is a magical lens, I mostly use it on my 6600 but it was great even on my 61 megapixel R4
LOVED this video. I do a lot of hiking in Canmore and Banff National Park as well. I've done Ha Ling too, with a bunch of friends. Fantastic B roll! That valley shot was KILLER!!! (Off-topic, ...but you also remind me of one of my Pastors because you look and sound like his twin brother, haha). I like people who can enjoy a good cup of coffee! Great video. (P.S. I just emailed you a PDF of one of my hikes too, take care.)

I look Tamron 17-28 and Sony 20. Can't decide what to buy and my choice was sony because it's f/1.8 and it's sharper than Tamron. Sony not 20 mm, before 18.5-19mm

Great video! Love the hike. That shot of you sitting at the top eating Oreos is stopped way down right? Love that shot.
Thank you so much! That’s too funny that I look like him!

I'm in love with it!
Cheers!
