I’m a flooring business owner. Your numbers don’t factor in ANY overhead, labor cost, Equipment costs, wear and tear on vehicles & tools, fasteners, maintenance, and I could go on for days! Also, $2sf for materials? If your lucky to find a decent floor that cheap, what about taxes and sourcing cost ( delivery )? Love how clients think they can break down a business, yet have no clue. Margins in flooring are crap. Just like the floor we put in, we get walked all over.
Most people have small shops for the guys to meet everyday . A van to use for the tools and guys and also what type of pay your going to pay your guys . I mean you need to have a distributor and then show up to the job after picking up materials or paying to get them delivered. Then you have to think maybe they have furniture to remove do you spend the time to remove it or pay ot or have the home owners get a pod . Then lets say its carpet . If you charge .50 cents a square ft to remove carpet and then your guys gonna cheack for float just to level the floors before you start ? How much have you factored in so far?
Hi ! I am a young foreign guy who is been doing flooring for a couple of years now with my father , but it's been under the table . I am trying to make my business legit but I don't exactly know the steps and the requirements needed . Can you please enlighten me
My company has 18 crews that work for me. They make exactly what they charge every customer and I tack on a percentage. Each install crew does good to make six to $800 a day. Some days it’s far less and some days it’s double and triple that. Unfortunately there’s a lot more small jobs than there are thousand foot dreams.
Thanks! My brother and I have scaled the business over the past 2 years but before that, the both of us working as a single crew, we almost did 1/2 a mil in a year. Talk about a butt kicker, but the reputation spread and we were offered tons of work and we split into crews and started hiring more from there. You are correct about it being lucrative, just not that lucrative. Not by yourself anyway.
I am a flooring installer. Cut all of your numbers in half. That’s a more accurate representation of potential profit in this business. $1000 dollars a day is a good day for a small flooring installation company.
Lmao 😂 this guy is just baiting viewers dude. It’s a growing problem with content creators today. He probably never mentioned how much makes through youtube lmao
I buy LVP flooring directly from wholesaler and decent product is at least $3 to $3.50 sq ft. Plus trim and moldings are not cheap either. Not sure about those numbers you quoted. There's probably a reason contratlctors are not driving Lambos and Bentleys 😂
It is hard to provide super accurate numbers since every state and location is different. I think the main reason Contractors don’t drive Bentley’s is because they don’t scale their business after they personally start bringing in $150K-$250K a year as an income. Once you get comfortable, it’s hard to go through the growing pains again to get to the next level.
The demand from homeowners looking to upgrade their spaces is really high, and the profit margins are impressive. The idea of potentially making around $60,000 in a month is definitely intriguing. Thanks for the insights!
The home services sector (contracting) has so much money in it that it is insane. People want to pay people to do a good job on something they can’t or don’t want to do. Glad you enjoyed the video!
This is somewhat accurate. Flooring inflation rates have gone up while installing rates have stayed the same since the 90s. It used to be lucrative now it’s more a duty that needs to be fulfilled. Needless to say I love my job and I’ll control install until I begin to lose money.
I’ve been doing flooring since I was 18, 1000sq ft for solid red oak unfinished . Doing the install and sanded and natural color for like 10-12k in LA and it’s well worth in the long run. It also depends on on the cut and type of wood. Designs are extra 😅
Hello Nate , I am eager to get into the business , what is the ideal MM size of the flooring as I intend to bring it in and also get contractors to install . so definitely I would source floor installers . the video has been so motivating thanks
I own a small family business just me and my dad and brother, i charge 7-10 dollars a sq ft for LVP and tile - the issue i think with most people isnt just the numbers, but also they dont know how to get enough leads to even be able to raise their price. A lot of guys low ball just to land a job and stay in that cycle which eventually lands you dead broke like most contractors. A lpt dont realize we arent in the construction business, we are in the marketing business.

I work as a flooring contractor (not fully qualified yet as im still learning and been in the trade for half a year) Ive worked very hard every day because its not a easy trade physically but I enjoy the work. My mate who I work with has earned 8grand in a week installing and does cashies on the side and that's my goal to get to that point and him and I work as a team to get houses done perfect and quickly. Him and I did a house yesterday which was about 140 metres roughly and we smashed it. I would love to own a business but im more in the trade for the fact that I enjoy physical work, i dont have to have someone standing over me everyday watching my every move and the potential of what I can earn as well as the fact that later on in life when I own a house I can install the flooring and carpets all on my own to save money. Im only 19 so dont judge me for not having my own house yet lol. Im working on getting tickets and other qualifications as well so I can go to the mines and things like that and I also have mates who do welding which I have that job available to do as well so I do have things I can choose to do other than this job in a few years if it doesn't work out.
His prices are right if you was to walk into most of the businesses cause businesses pay the contractor what we normally make, which is $3 and under a square foot.
We own a family owned flooring company. Your not taking in leveling/ prep work, tools, gas, time for estimates and whether you get those jobs etc. You did hit the nail on the head about people are putting money into homes rather than buying new. Theres a lot more that goes into the business then what you are saying though
You said $7sqft with all materials and labor included did that include installing baseboards? Also if the subfloor needs prepping and requires self leveling is that included? You can just start installing a floor on top of a imperfect floor so there's no way you be finishing a 1000sqft home in 1 or 2 days because after application the concrete that it self takes and entire day to let it dry
That's most likely carpet or sheet vinyl you're talking about. Whole different ball game. Not to mention, the sounds like a price a store would pay for a subcontractor, different than contracting.
