This album is so incredible it’s hard to put into words. Every person I’ve turned on to this has lost their mind. Every song is a masterpiece. And Walters vocals!??? Just unreal. One of my top 5 albums of all time hands down!!
When life gets bad for me, I have to remember that there was once a band called Quicksand and an album called Slip which could blast all pain away with the power of their Fender strats and Marshall amps.
I'm not one for concerts, I don't like crowds, but that lineup would've been worth it had I known about it at the time. I just discovered Quicksand recently (thanks UPS driver!) but LC is an old favorite of mine.
Summer 1991, saw Quicksand in Syracuse, NY, opening for Fugazi on the Steady Diet tour. One of the best shows I've ever seen. You can hear the Fugazi influence on Slip. Still have Quicksand's 7" EP.
Just saw them in Boston last week for the 30th anniversary of Slip and they were firing on ALL cylinders! Having Stephen Brodsky on guitar and vocals made it so much cooler 😎. Quicksand is such an underrated band and I feel lucky to have discovered them 25 years ago and STILL listen to them all the time
Where'd you see them at? I'm not far from Boston and somehow still missed them playing anywhere. And I've also been listening to this album the entire time, so I'm pissed.
+Miriam Goldfinger , I know right ,it slipped by a lot of people which left me scratching my head ,I was like "am I alone in seeing how awesome these dudes were?" Actually the Deftones new because after Chi ,Chino Marino has brought Quicksands bass player into Deftones most recent line up.!
"Slip" is easily one of the best albums of the 90's. After being a fan for a couple of years, they finally came through my area in '95 with Helmet and Orange 9mm. Amazing show. Nothing but respect for the other two bands on the bill, but Quicksand flat-out ruled the night. Incredible live act.
i saw quicksand on the first warped tour in 1994 in houston at the astro arena. by the time they played there was only about 100 people left. what a show. walter schreifels jumped off the stage with his guitar still strapped on and hugged and thanked us for staying and going wild. that was awesome
No one ever talkes about how hard the drum parts are to play in such a slowmo tempo with all the off-beats on the bass drum. I am a drummer myself and always admired the drummer.
I'm here for Sergio! Sucks he had to leave Deftones. Fell in LOVE with Quicksand just after a few seconds into first-time listen, damn i feel stupid for not checking you guys out all these years.
Same here, I was just reading Flea's memoir and saw a pic of him n Sergio playing trumpet in an orchestra as kids. Both ended up being famous bassists.
Yep, I just checked out Quicksand too and I feel the same way but better late then never. Not only does it suck that Sergio got dumped from Deftones but it also sucks that Quicksand didn't get as much recognition during their prime as Deftones did since they are just as talented.
This just took me back 20 yrs...sitting @ my grandmas' house, watching MTV, absorbing all the music I couldn't see or hear @ my house. Gotta love grandparents & their cable tv's. I can remember waiting for an AIC video, & seeing these guys instead. Definately good stuff.
Standing like a sore thumb out, Notice your image is different. Traits that change, it's just too quick, Follow on clues and guess what, That's what, it's like. Follow your ups and downs, It's safe to say that I can't tell. All sense aside. Left out in the cold, Sight of your routine getting old. Blame some indifference inside, Taken on shapes not to selective. Just what you find. Looking for seconds of peace of mind, Pieces of something to hold on to. A job that you just can't hold down, Distracted for seconds, you're gone. Follow your ups and downs, It's safe to say that I can't tell. All sense aside. Saw them in 1991/92? in Prague. Best NYHC show ever, and we had it all here those days. And again 2 weeks ago in Berlin with Hot Water Music. Quicksand still in full strength, although only 3 members on stage.
This is the song which burned itself into my mind, back then when I watched them first time supporting living colour in Vienna Austria in the 90s. Walter wearing this shirt with " We are Exxon and we don't care" on it. Memories from the pit, thanks.
Everything Walter Schreifels touches is absolute gold. One of my musical heroes. I love all his bands from Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand, Rival Schools, Vanishing Life etc etc etc. I listened to Slip non-stop for months after it came out. Soundtrack to some fun times in high school.
I heard this album for the first time maybe in 95 or 96 after reading an interview of Daniel Johns from Silverchair. I was in a record shop in Esch sur Alzette in Luxemburg. I fell instantly in love with this awesome band! 🤟❤️😎
bought an EP with this song on it in '93... and one of the Shelter LP's when i was in Huntington Beach. true story. was drifting from being full time listening to NYHC by then. still so good.
I have been listening to Quicksand since the 90's. I still can't understand why this band was not more well known than they are. The level of talent and unique rifts used in every song should have made this band stand head-and-shoulders among most in their genre.
I think that’s just what happens when bands call it quits pretty early and go away for many years, especially in an era where the internet wasn’t really a thing yet
This song rocked, along with almost all of their songs. This video was filmed in the now gone Wetlands in NYC. It was during their set and they did the song twice. I'm in that crowd somewhere.
I bought this album "Slip," back in '93 when it came out. Listening to this brings back memories. I haven't listened to this song for YEARS. Man, was that really 20 fucking years ago already. Holy shit.
I saw these guys at the Filmore back in the day and the singer had a cold. He didn't cancel the show but sang his fing brains out scratchy voice and all. It was awesome 😀
Went tree planting for a few months in spring 1993, when I got home I asked my buddy what did I miss? He responded Quicksand Slip and Tool Undertow. After the introduction to their amazing music was instantly a fan. Saw them once in Toronto at the El Mocambo and was blown away. Great band, amazing album
HELLS YEAH! THEY WERE INCREDIBLE. like Failure, they were just too good for the mainstream. they had THE sound before TOOL. if u were in the know in the mid 90's, these guys made TOOL seem late for the party. thanx for posting:)
the singer from this band started another band called Rival Schools, there debut album is a few years old but its a must have. watch the youtube video for the song "used for glue". you wont regret it!
great band, miss the old days in Syracuse, NY , so many great bands came through. good times. shout out to all the old school hardcore kids from syracuse, you know who you are =)
Slip. One of the greatest albums most never will know of.
You speak the truth, brother. This album was way ahead of its time.
I come back to it every few weeks for the last 10 years. A perfect album.
I had Slip on cd and I played it so often it wore out and wouldnt play anymore. Still one of the best albums I ever owned
Ill agree with that statement whole heartedly. Makin out with my girlfriend in our band practice room back in 93 when i was 19. Damn im old.
Yup, they were way ahead of their time. Slip is a masterpiece!
Hum, Jawbox, Helmet, Swervedriver and the mighty Quicksand. The 90s fucking ruled.
dont forget the buck pets and fudge tunnel!
Burning Airlines, Slint, Hoover, Drive Like Jehu, Fugazi, Nirvana, At The Drive In
and DEF. don't forget failure. Fantastic Planet is a perfect album that is super underrated.
Swervedriver !! Hell yes !!
Hum
Probably one of the most underrated bands ever

This album is so incredible it’s hard to put into words. Every person I’ve turned on to this has lost their mind. Every song is a masterpiece. And Walters vocals!??? Just unreal. One of my top 5 albums of all time hands down!!
The production quality is pretty amazing as well... new recordings don’t even come close to sounding like this...
I like listening to Quicksand because whenever I do so do my neighbors.
I was lucky to see Quicksand in 1995 at X-Fest in Noblesville IN. They're always in my regular rotation. 🤟🏻
Not many here in 2024... but there should be!
2025❤❤❤
This band deserved to be FAR bigger than they were.
heyooo
Fun Fact-The Bass Player for Quicksand now plays for Deftones as the bassist.
Scrody McBoogerballs fun?
we know that for 8 years already.
Scrody McBoogerballs
i did not know that...
good lookin out doo
yeah and hes still in quicksand
This indeed a fun fact.
When life gets bad for me, I have to remember that there was once a band called Quicksand and an album called Slip which could blast all pain away with the power of their Fender strats and Marshall amps.

New song
my first big concert, 1993, Quicksand and Living Colour...:
good old days...
I'm not one for concerts, I don't like crowds, but that lineup would've been worth it had I known about it at the time. I just discovered Quicksand recently (thanks UPS driver!) but LC is an old favorite of mine.
Good, classic Post-Hardcore/Alternative Rock band. Gorilla Biscuits and Youth Of Today brought me here.
Post hardcore???? Dude plz
Please DO NOT EVER COMPARE THIS GRUNGE-ESQUE JUNK WITH GORILLA BISCUITS DUDE
Summer 1991, saw Quicksand in Syracuse, NY, opening for Fugazi on the Steady Diet tour. One of the best shows I've ever seen. You can hear the Fugazi influence on Slip. Still have Quicksand's 7" EP.
That show sounds friggin’ amazing.
nice i usedto live in wescott street, and live with the guy who put hellfest together, that place was hard core music mecca not anymore!
Nearly 30 years old....still one of the best Albums ever made...

@@RevShifty it was at The Royale on November 4th.
@@NandorTheRelentless76 Thank you. I can't believe I missed that, especially an anniversary show. I'll have to pay more attention, I guess.
This band is like Tool but without the pretentious and drawn-out bullshit. Great song
Two songs remind me of the 90's more than any others. Quicksand - Fazer, and Jawbox - Savory. I'm time traveling.
they're still ahead of the curve here, and this was over 20 years old.
Quicksand & Rival Schools...music's best kept secrets
+bunnyhead71 MIND BOMB as well!!
+bunnyhead71 MIND BOMB as well!!

It's true... most people dont' know this band.
bunnyhead71 Came here through the Deftones.....ended up finding one of the best bands ever ! NY hardcore was & is untouchable!
Helmet, Quicksand & Orange 9mm. What a great show.
Helmet Quicksand and Far are my favorite 3 Bands from the 90s
Criminally underrated band
Tool bit from these dudes hardcore
"Slip" is easily one of the best albums of the 90's. After being a fan for a couple of years, they finally came through my area in '95 with Helmet and Orange 9mm. Amazing show. Nothing but respect for the other two bands on the bill, but Quicksand flat-out ruled the night. Incredible live act.
Yup..totally agree..I saw them when they toured with Quicksand here I'm DC..they stole the show that night
i saw quicksand on the first warped tour in 1994 in houston at the astro arena. by the time they played there was only about 100 people left. what a show. walter schreifels jumped off the stage with his guitar still strapped on and hugged and thanked us for staying and going wild. that was awesome
This album changed everything I knew about music when I saw Quicksand open for Helmet in November of 1994. 28 years later and I'm still listening.
Really underrated band. Excellent post-hardcore.
SLIP AND MANIC COMPRESSION ARE 2 OF THE BEST ALBUMS OF THE 1990'S.....PERIOD
No one ever talkes about how hard the drum parts are to play in such a slowmo tempo with all the off-beats on the bass drum. I am a drummer myself and always admired the drummer.
Sergio's bass riff from 1:46-2:00 is killer. 🤘
Deftones did him dirty
Just discovered this band, I'm so glad I did.
I'm here for Sergio! Sucks he had to leave Deftones. Fell in LOVE with Quicksand just after a few seconds into first-time listen, damn i feel stupid for not checking you guys out all these years.
Same. This is so good. A lot of respect for Quicksand.
Same here, I was just reading Flea's memoir and saw a pic of him n Sergio playing trumpet in an orchestra as kids. Both ended up being famous bassists.
The entire band is solid!!!
Their chemistry can't be fucked with
Yep, I just checked out Quicksand too and I feel the same way but better late then never. Not only does it suck that Sergio got dumped from Deftones but it also sucks that Quicksand didn't get as much recognition during their prime as Deftones did since they are just as talented.
Walters voice. Toms noise. Sergios tone. Alan tying it all together. Awesome band. Just found out recently that Walter and I are eskimo brothers!!!
This album was the soundtrack to my senior year of high school lmao
I saw these guys, orange 9mm, and helmet at Rutgers U one night. It was a good night.
The most Underated band and album of that Era. Seen this for the time on Mtv.
Early 90s sounding like this along with fugazi, sunnyday real estate and for love not lisa
Just found this album today...Holy shit dude this is killer
Have another handsome from 1997
@@andym28 Definitely great
@@andym28 id kill for a vinyl repress of that record.
90's, went to a 7 seconds show... and Quicksand opened. :)
Saw them with Rage Against the Machine. Yes. It was sick.
+Brian Rook Same for me in Montreal back in the day. Some pretty sweet and unique moments ! Heavy as fuck !
Wow.
American Theatre in Saint Louis on October 23, 1993. Stanford Prison Experiment, Quicksand and Rage Against the Machine. Awesome Show!
OldBadReligionPunk I was there as well! We didn’t even know who SPE was, they were handing out free *tapes* hahaha. Absolutely glorious.
I did too. It was bonkers! Small venue too!
I really like the bass sound in this song.
the bass is playing through a modulation type effect. Probably a chorus pedal or maybe a flanger with the "rate" turned down a bit.
They sound like Tool and Soundgarden wrapped up, good song
Still loving Quicksand all these years later. Just seen them in Toronto. ❤️
This album and Manic Compression back to back on endless repeat……
One of my favorite shows of all time, snapcase, quicksand, deftones 1997.
Criminally underrated.
Standing like a sore thumb out,
Notice your image is different.
Traits that change, it's just too quick,
Follow on clues and guess what,
That's what, it's like.
Follow your ups and downs,
It's safe to say that I can't tell.
All sense aside.
Left out in the cold,
Sight of your routine getting old.
Blame some indifference inside,
Taken on shapes not to selective.
Just what you find.
Looking for seconds of peace of mind,
Pieces of something to hold on to.
A job that you just can't hold down,
Distracted for seconds, you're gone.
Follow your ups and downs,
It's safe to say that I can't tell.
All sense aside.
Left out in the cold,
Sight of your routine getting old.
Blame some indifference inside,
Taken on…
Celebrating the golden ages
This song was my jam back then ....
Filmed at The Wetlands in NYC.
i was there!!! that show was nuts..
@@peterross8610 yup. I think they played the song a few times if i recall correctly.
Such a FUCKING amazing band
Such a fucking amazing opening track and album

top five albums of the 90s
Living in NYC it was a treat in the 90s. Quicksand, Vision of Disorder, Burn, Madball, Crown of Thornz, Bouncing Souls, Yuppicide.
Saw them in early 90s at the Whiskey in L A. Amazing show!
Walter (Goldang) Shreifels, the man, the myth, the legend....soooooo goooood!
Awesome camera work and production.
bought an EP with this song on it in '93... and one of the Shelter LP's when i was in Huntington Beach. true story. was drifting from being full time listening to NYHC by then. still so good.
This is the second Quicksand song I have ever heard.. somehow. NEED ALL ALBUMS
So many people arguing about the genre... Lol to me it's grunge, grunge with some punk influence. Music is subjective.....we all hear it differently
I have been listening to Quicksand since the 90's. I still can't understand why this band was not more well known than they are. The level of talent and unique rifts used in every song should have made this band stand head-and-shoulders among most in their genre.

What a rock solid 4 piece this is. No weakness... so great.
Memories
‘“Like this” Every drummer when asked how they want their drums to sound.
painfully underrated band... Great Album
Quicksand = the most important band to come out of the 90s.
Saw them as moondog way back. Maybe Bunrattys in Boston 89ish? Great band.
I saw them in Germany 1990 open for 7 Seconds. They just had the 4 song LP. Killer show
brutally good
oh the good old days. great band...
Absolutely am IN LOVE with this song since first time I heard it - Own the album, yeahhh!
I rocked these guys so hard back in the 90s.
I had this CD when I had just graduated High School and then I saw them open for Anthrax and White Zomble that was an awesome concert!!
Classic, such a great band. The 90's and early 2000's really had the best hard rock and metal.
Furnacance Fest 2022!!!! LET'S GOOOOOO!!
2020 and there aint no noise like old NOISE! \m/
Bought the cd off the actual band on side of stage after they opened up for Rage Against the Machine early 90s old Masonic Temple Toronto.
