@@romanroze4514 Brodsky is great but TC3 man, cmon....this band was EVERYTHING when they first came out and started playing shows. Tom was/is a super talented guitar player, wish he was still on board.
Walter Schreifels is such a cool guy. I also met him when I was a teenager and he was touring with Rival Schools. I really wanted to go to a music festival they were playing, but my mum wasn't sure if she could let me. He actually phoned her on my brick mobile and asked her to let me go haha! It worked! What a gent.
I love how Stephen use the exact original Quicksand sound with his guitar yet we sometimes catch glimpses of his own style, such a massive influence to him and many more🙌
Fuck yes! So many ski and snowboard waxes and tunes done while cranking Quicksand back in the mid 90's. Quicksand, Tool, Helmet, Clutch, and the grunge era bands got us through it all.
I saw these guys with No Use For a Name and The Offspring in Worcester MA around 96, still one of the best shows ever, glad to see they’re still killing it!
Its crazy to grow up with Quicksand as my favorite band and have Cave in become my fav band a couple years after Quicksand was no more. Fast forward 25 or so years to have Brodsky seemingly more than just a fill in on 2nd guitar is surreal.
I have loved these guys since Slip came out. They have made their comeback awesome with great new stuff and unbridled energy! Younger bands take note, this is how you do it!!!
I also grew up in South Dakota! My senior year of college, I drove around Spearfish with Rival Schools first album on infinite repeat in my car as I was planning a move to California. The sounds felt full of infinite possibilities. When I hear "travel by telephone" I still think about being on the precipice of a huge move.
@@Ripzalot not sure about the original recordings but Sergio has been using them with Deftones years before I saw them rise in popularity with more modern bands
This may be the first KEXP performance that has songs from over 30 years ago. I'm not complaining - just commenting. Great stuff. There's a reason it's still here.
Been subscribed on here for years. I've never clicked the like or got excited by a band on here until now. Love Quicksand! One of my favorite bands and Slip was an amazing album! Thank you for having them on.
Used to crank the hell out of the Slip album back in the day, especially Dine Alone- love that chunky riff. How many killer bands has Steve Brodsky played with now? Dope.
Quicksand. What a band, what a time in life! They stay on my playlist. Like a special bottle of wine, they dont get consumed much, but never disappoint in recreating that special mood from a great time in life. Love Troy's enthusiasm too.
I've literally never been so happy... This is awesome! Love Quicksand and a huge Rival schools fan.. i was luckily enough to see them twice and i melt Walter at one of the shows, super nice dude
Great set! Great to hear somebody just full-on fan-boy out! I've seen Quicksand a number of time going back to 92, and they've blown me away every time. Well done, KEXP!
"A job that you just can't hold down" Ahh, Quicksand takes me back to my early snowboarding days. 'Slip' is just one of those albums. There's a lot of talent in this band. I loved when Sergio Vega played for Deftones. And Alan Cage is awesome. Anyway, they sounded awesome. This was awesome. KEXP is awesome. I had no idea DJ Troy was such a fan. I only wish this was longer...I would have loved to have heard more👏👏👍👍❤
Quicksand and Hum. The most underappreciated bands of the 90's.
Don't forget Nudeswirl...
And Orange 9mm...
Failure
Absolutely!!!
At 9:55 he basically plays the drum intro fill to Stars by Hum. Neat linkage
Steve Brodsky on vocals and guitar. So sick
🤯
Alan Cage, too 🍻
He is an upgrade!
@@romanroze4514 Brodsky is great but TC3 man, cmon....this band was EVERYTHING when they first came out and started playing shows. Tom was/is a super talented guitar player, wish he was still on board.
Really adds another dimension to the band
My first show I ever saw was quicksand helmet and orange 9mm. 15 years old. It was a great start to 30 years of music
Criminally underrated, insanely talented.
Such a diverse band that killed it so early with unique style, agreed!
not to their core fans
Walter Schreifels is the true incarnation of cool.
He's such a dude
F'ing Sergio, man! 👏🏼🤘🏼
That bass tho!
bass vi?@@PerryLevy
@@PerryLevy is it even a bass? It looks like a baritone guitar that's been strung unconventionally. 🤷♂
@@Chum_KiuIt’s definitely a Bass VI.
Ive been listening to them for 30+ years and they still give me chills.
Crazy right?
So good. I used to think Deftones had a unique sound and then I heard Quicksand and was like "oh".

No way! Did your mum realize who she was talking to?
@@mariz9084 I mean, sort of. I mean, she knew he was a guy in a band, but didn't know the band or anything.
I saw rival schools in New York City. Very good show.
Saw them last year with Clutch and Helmet. Excellent show, really brought me back. These guys still sound great.
seen em open for helmet in like 93 94 = ) they still got it
That's a freaking amazing lineup. Each band could play 1.5 hours and I'd be happy the whole time.
I saw them at Bogarts in Cincinnati on the same tour. Went to the record store the next day and bought Slip.@@06shinigami
I caught that show last year as well and it was one of the best I have been to. 👌🏼
Saw that lineup as well. Incredible show!
Quicksand - Slip is such an amazing album. 10/10
I just realized Slip is older now than Sgt Pepper was in the year I graduated high school 😮
Alan Cage is such an underrated drummer. Quicksand is just amazing.
His parts and dynamics are sublime.
So essential to their sound from the beginning. Him and Vega are tight.
I agree. So many unique parts in the newest record
I love how Stephen use the exact original Quicksand sound with his guitar yet we sometimes catch glimpses of his own style, such a massive influence to him and many more🙌
Sergio is the raddest bass player! The energy he possesses is contagious, and watching him when they toured in Australia recently was a pleasure.
Fuck yes! So many ski and snowboard waxes and tunes done while cranking Quicksand back in the mid 90's. Quicksand, Tool, Helmet, Clutch, and the grunge era bands got us through it all.
Serg looks so happy ❤
It's really good to see him happy considering what happened to him with Deftones
Sergio with the filthy tone as always 🤘
We need a Failure/Quicksand co headlining Tour
TAKE MY MONEY!
I've connected the dots and realized this guy's music is one of my biggest influences
Seeing Quicksand on KEXP is such a treat, this was an awesome set ✌️
This was LITERALLY the second live band I've seen. They opened for Helmet. Absolutely blew my mind.
My first. Same tour. I guess technically orange 9mm was the first as they opened. Hell of a first show.
@@360stockflips that's EXACTLY who the opener was lol
Stephen is a perfect addition. Quicksand are legends. One of favorite bands of all time.
Hey that's a Bass VI that Sergio is playing. It is in fact a bass guitar.
Thanks for clearing that up, I was so confused. Had to Google it.
Ooh so it's really a bass. sounds very dope
He played that on those Deftones records as well

quicksand + Steve from Cave In, cool crossover

The whole slip album is a absolute masterpiece…..Glad I was born in my generation for music. Quicksand and Helmet….both did a ton for music.
Slip such a great album from great band. Now all I need is a Chavez and Unwound live performance
Cool they're really playing all their early stuff here! SLIP was an amazing album.
Love seeing the Bass VI on bass duty! And holy shit, it’s so cool to see Quicksand with Brodsky on KEXP.
Do you know if he originally used a Bass IV? or is he rolling with the recent popularity trend? which is a good thing, I'm big fan of baritones.

Good to see Sergio jamming any day of the week. Love the band
One of the best bands of all time, in my opinion. Great to see this....sounded great.
Got to see Quicksand with Helmet and Crawlpappy in the early 90s. The Outhouse in Lawrence KS. Incredible show, I like Rival Schools as well.

Still excellent after nearly 30 years. And a caved in mutoid on bord now. How crazy is that?!?!!

I saw them a few months ago in SF. It was great to hear these old songs live.
Can't wait to finally see them live again in May after literally 30 years. 🤘
Hope you enjoy it! I saw them in ‘18 at the Observatory in Orange County, and it was a very good show
