The Apple TV 4k Teardown
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 вер 2017
- It’s been two long years since the AppleTV got an update-which is an eternity in Apple’s fast-paced development cycle. But with 4K and HDR streaming capabilities, the new Apple TV 4K brings the heat.
An iPad Pro-worthy processor and 3 GB of RAM pushing all those pixels means the TV will get a lot hotter a lot faster. Heat wreaks some serious havoc on electronics-from cracked solder to fried chips-so Apple popped a fan assembly onto the heatsink of yore, and punched some ventilation into the case. Let’s hope the precautions are enough to avoid a Red Ring of Death situation.

What the hell is going on? Apple making an easily accessible and repairable device?
They've been making iPhones for 10 years...
The new iPhones arent as bad as they used to be in that aspect aswell and the PCs and Laptops also went a tiny bit towards repairability. In that aspect Microsoft has taken Apples place of the least accessible and repairable devices with their Surface line.
SCWfan06 this isn't Apple!?
@@Chuckiele 2019 update - MS learnt from their mistakes.
I have always found Apple products much easier to repair than the competition.
Why didn’t you tear down the remote, surely that glad might need replacing, I’ve cracked a few remotes before and they are not cheap to replace
Gaming Enthusiast 101 I want you to open up a solid metal brick
Because they are superficial.
They did it in the Apple TV non 4K tear down
Honestly, this is one of my favorite teardowns I've seen on the web. Concise and easy to understand for lay person like myself and wasn't boring at all and wasn't too long of an explanation.
what about the siri remote? im curious since they changes the menu button if anything else changed
I just found this channel and I already love it
Short and to the point. Great job. :)
AX10 substitution if ones out of apple stock, is there such a thing?
Hi, could be possible to fix the ethernet port and the wi-fi of AppleTV 4 gen?
Which direction does the fan blow? Into the unit or away from the unit?
can u identify the wireless modem in this thing? it seems u cant stop the radiation even if u set wired in the setting, it still radiates. I love to take it out if I can..
Love these teardowns!
How do you put the TV in recovery mode?
a nice heatsink. I just recently got a new TV box a Tanix Tx92. It has 4gb memory and 64gb Rom . Nice specs but sorry I ordered it because it over heats and freezes. I waited to long to return it so I ordered a better heatsink for the processor. It will solve my overheating and freezing problems. Apple is quality made I see from you're disassembly. I wish they did the same with all the other TV boxes. Interesting video thank you for posting it.
Hei I really enjoy your page ☺ Keep it up!
Teardown link?
I don’t have any 4K TV/Monitors, should I get this? (I already have the 2015 4th generation model)
Can you do graphics card tear down n give fix rate 🙏
Does it scratch at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7???
I wonder if adding some Artic Silver thermal paste to the A10 would be worth it?
Hello there.
I wish to repair my AppleTV 4 by replacing the board chip to make it run again.
Are there any store that sells AppleTV 4 parts?
So objective! Gotta love your clean formula.
How To Restore an Apple TV 4k On Computern ??
How to unlock the iceloud in iphone 6
so its possible to convert the apple tv to run 12v for in car use hmm...
I would love to know how to fix my 4k Apple Tv that was affected by a lightning storm. I've looked on youtube but no luck. PS. I have a Flashing white light. Thanks
Good work @Apple for designing an easily repairable device with modular components!
Can anyone somehow confirm wether the fans spin in regular use ?
good luck finding parts
my atv 4k is stuck on restore window, how can i restore it with no output for any cord?
The hidden lighting cord in the ethernet jack and apple configurator2/iTunes maybe?
this is really well done
Great video. Thank you.
straight to the point video with no bullshit. just clicked the subscribe.
Why is there an A10x in a device that only has to stream video..? that seems waaaay overkill to watch some netflix
It does upscaling it converts normal HD videos to hdr
Does is work with android
It’s weird how it has an a10x like the iPad Pro but it’s actively cooled unlike the iPad. Maybe the one in the iPad is underclocked?
Thank you for the video. One question I always wonder why the cooling fans are blowing air out from the case not to the case. Im asking bc Im opening my APTV 3rd and putting a cooling fan with a case I made myself. But should I keep the fan blowing air to the case or it is a rule of thumb always out of the case ? Thx
You need air flow that means that cool air needs to get to the metal to cool the chip if there is air coming in there has to be the same amount of air coming out.
Most products blow the air out of the case with inlets somewhere else that is drawing in air. My Mac Mini, iMac, and MacBook Pro all output air via the fan and have vents that draw air in. I've never seen a device that sucks air in unless there is also another fan outputting that air
Yes, I don't see the intake vents. The blower fan gest air from the center-bottom and exhausts it out of the bottom-edge of the device, but if there is a circle at the bottom where tha air comes in and there is no vents at the center-bottom... Where does the air comes in? All the vents of the circle are for exhaust, not intake. There are no other vents anywhere. The mac mini has a vent at the back and at the bottom.
Do the taptic engine teardown...!!!☠️
I really miss the optical audio output
都用上风扇散热了, 这个A10X发热比iPad pro还高吗 ?
Xu Feng the iPad Pro is build of aluminium body which is considered a great heat conductor thus the heat produced by the A10X can be effectively dissipated whereas the Apple TV is enclosed by a plastic casing? Which hinders heat dissipation thus active cooling is required.
" the new Apple TV 4K brings the heat".
-Removes fan
No FPGA? Good luck with lag for wifi screen casting!
Plastic Clips for easy opening? Lmao
but what about the remotE????
I was hoping to see an sd card somewhere to upgrade the internal memory.
Fastest and best review
What? This isn't a review. 99.9999% of people will never take this apart.
This wasn't a review
i dont know why this was in my recommended, but damn. short, sweet, to the point. I wish more people made videos like this instead of rambling
Please teardown the xperia flagship phones...
"Maybe there is some hidden treasure inside!"... Or maybe its just Apple cuz.... Apple
Good luck GETTING any of those parts.
Do an original gameboy teardown.
That thermal "paste" is really rough lol Atleast try and spread it apple
Board box AND a fan
still using the 3rd gen
I had a message pop on mine saying the AppleTv was overheating and shutdown. Was in an open area next to the tv, regularly cleaned/dusted. After that my Ethernet port didn’t work and any video I watched would start to lag if it got too hot. The fan doesn’t work anymore. Took it in to the Apple store, they said they won’t repair it. Shouldn’t these be repairable issues? They didn’t even plug it in for diagnostics just flat out said we won’t fix it. Buy a new one...
So removing the bottom of the apple tv is not negative? If you can remove it just with damaging the product its negative..
can you please put the background music in the background and the voice to the foreground next time?
lol @ how Americans pronounce, 'Soldered'.
You and zacks jerry tig went to same school?
oh I like this
Such a TV box doesn't require any special space savings or any thin-friendly architecture, so they can just put everything necesary in place and put it in simple form factor
I abso-fucking-lutely hate deviced that I have to damage to even get a cursory look inside
A10X vs A11?
Cesar Alvarez A10X has nearly double the graphics performance as the A11, while the A11 has just slightly better CPU performance. Both are built using a 10nm process and consist of a LITTLEbig style of architecture that employs 3 high performance cores and 3 low performance cores for different applications to preserve battery life while not compromising performance on more demanding tasks.
surface go teardown
Hey that's pretty good
This Apple TV uses the same chip as the 1st Generation iPad Pro and the current iPad. Also I’ve never heard the fans on my Apple TV, I guess it’s because the HomePod plays sound.
You did not include the repairability of the remote so this is incomplete
Ifixit! Please! PLEASE do a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 teardown! 🙏
Can you donate one?
please dont use emojis
Melon gamer What does the emoji do you?
Why can't we use emojis?
Too bad they "forgot" to include a usb port which is useful for fast updates, dfu restores, sideloading, jailbreaking etc
What people fail to realize is your not just getting streaming apps with the Apple TV 4th gen and newer. You have the App Store with hundreds of games and apps at your disposal. Of course it's not going to be as cheap as other offerings because frankly other offerings don't have the App Store and are not as power as this device is
I'm sad that you are only honest for a second. Thanks for the video!
sparkie001 what? This video is 100% honest and true.
Ninja1inblack It's a board in a box bud. Get your head out of your ass.
ITS A SMALL GNOME INSIDE!
Why is there a fan inside? The iPad Pro has the A10X but doesn’t have a fan.
hidde1626 it would most likely use thermal heat transferring paste/tape, a small unibody heatsink and possibly even furthermore the whole aluminum body to cool
Sustained output at higher clock speeds. All fine with passive cooling for short bursts.
The iPad Pro doesn't play back 4k video.
TheRandomActivity If it produced the same amount of heat it would burn you and set fire to the battery.
You get better thermals with a cooling fan. They probably would put a fan in the iPad Pro, but since it's a portable device, they want to keep it thin, quiet, and without any moving parts.
omg a iPad cpu in that thing
There are some slightly off comments regarding A10X performance.
1. Its CPU is faster than any other ARM SoC available. It's faster than mobile Intel Core in many cases. It definitely is desktop class.
2. Its GPU is faster than any other ARM SoC (apart from Apple's own A11)
3. Yes, it is faster than the Switch. Tegra X1 is pretty old and imbalanced.
4. Yes, it really does have more CPU performance than PS4/XB1 The Jaguar cores in those AMD SoCs are only a notch above Atom level, having 8 of them doesn't put it ahead of the A10X. Apple's Hurricane cores are closer to Zen/Coffee Lake.
5. No, Geekbench isn't a bad benchmark. In fact, comparing iOS to macOS performance with Geekbench is the most ideal performance test we have. It's the same code and libraries just compiled to different ISAs. Other benchmarks (like TabletMark) use platform-specific implementations of tests, making the results useless.
Still, Google managed to put 4K quality in a device 1/5 smaller than the apple tv, without any fans or things like them.
love you when we gonna see you on tv
just discovered today: there's a hidden lightning port in the ethernet jack for debugging
Not in mine there isn't
Cool
That box has an A10X chip? God, how I hope I could run a proper OS on that thing.
more like WINDOWS
I'm still using my 3rd gen haha
Me two, are you getting glitches ever? Or maybe problems with it connecting to the internet? I get it & occasionally & I have to restart it for it to work right. I think Apple is doing with it what it did with the iphone.
I only used a 4th gen because DirecTV Now gave me one for free for signing up for their service prepaid for 3 months or so. It was the same price as the device so I tried it out. I wasn't really happy with either one. AppleTV 4 was nice but it doesn't really do anything of value for me but stream videos from my PC. PS Vue was nice on it but that was about it. They never update the apps on it (Comedy Central, for example)
Wow.. the price makes my heart go .. would rather go for Raspberry Pi 3. 1080p Streaming with no heatsink/fan needed. 4k is still very limited. And i doubt people cries over 4k to 1080p since people can watch dvd on a 55-60'' tv :p
Actively cooled A10X huh. Well that's well above the 7th gen consoles/Wii U/Switch in performance, heck it's more powerful than the Mac Mini now. Apple should aggressively court some game developers for this one!
Nah
The switch is cooled by a heatsink/fan too
NO, the A10X is way more powerful than the tegra x1 in the switch, I mean WAY more powerful.
The Wii U and Switch aren't powerful to begin with. The A10x or A-anything are never going to be nearly as powerful as any desktop-grade processor found in the PS4 or Xbox-whatever. They're a completely different architecture and an A10x wouldn't be able to handle the instruction set of a PS4.
u are a console peasant????
So the most repairable apple device?
A well presented video but, the background music is TOOOO loud. And isn't necessary anyway. Regards .
Just watched because STOP BEING IN MY RECOMMENDED
The caveat is that they’re highly susceptible to OS corruption and will die after an update, and there’s no way to flash TVOS back onto it. I’ve gone through two Apple TV 4Ks meanwhile I still have a 3rd gen that has had no issues.
You might wanna text *Jose Fred* on WhatsApp +14136346140 for help he fixed mine a week back with him, your tv fix is guaranteed and safe.
My 3rd generation Apple TV mysteriously stopped working about a month ago. I have been looking for an Apple specialist/technician to fix it, but on my research for solution on here I saw a comment about *Jose Fred* on how he fix Apple devices, I contacted him and shipped the tv to him. At first I felt so stupid to have done that because I’ve haven’t done that before my hole life, but I’m so glad that in two days he fixed the tv successfully and shipped back to me.
this is passive fan.., i think when very hot inside outside air cold inside pressure air work fan??
Mike Ock
is 10 repair
👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻
Why would plastic clips be a good thing if you just said they're tough to remove and damage the plastic?
Better then having just glue
Great, now Apple will make it harder to repair
She is wife of jerry rig everything😂😂😂
Where did the previous girl go
fake cooling fan ?
Apple allows for removable fans? Im surprised they didnt lock that in to get money from repairs, oh wait, it probably cost them very little to stick the fan in
1:44 Jack... jack... jack? Jack! JACK!?!?!!!😭😭😭😭 I MISS MY HEADPHONE JACK BUHHHHH 😭😭😭😭
Jk have iphone 6s ha lol
But then it should score a 2 for the inability to obtain apple parts.
I hate Apple products "scheduled obsolescence"
inside so cheap
