    Cool to see! I'm the writer of the official trail report in Trails Offroad that you showed in the beginning of the video. I did that trail a few years with a friend and need to update it. I have the silver 4Runner and he had the other one. I actually did the tough section shown on the video using the Trail Edition's crawl control. That was the first time I tried it going uphill as I always have used for downhills only. It crawled right up without an issue.

    Neat trail. The 4Runner driver just has to take it easy on the gas and use some of his Toyota bells and whistles to get through those obstacles.
    Please be mindful of group size and unleashed dogs while in the National Park. We don't want access limited because of violating park regulatins.

    • @JonDZ_Adventuring
      @JonDZ_Adventuring  6 місяців тому +1

      The blue 4Runner driver had everything turned on, but throttle control seemed to be key. As far as group size, I had people comment about it, but I’ve searched everywhere and couldn’t find anything on limit. The Mojave National preserve has it clearly lined out, no more than 7 vehicles in a convoy, but there doesn’t seem to be anything for Death Valley.

      I owned a Subaru prior to finding out it was not a good fit and purchasing the Honda. I have no reason to switch out my adventure Mobil, but I’ve had it for over 5 years with 145k miles on the odometer (really 155k driven). There will be a time where I’ll have to move onto a different platform, but when that happens, I don’t think much will change, and I don’t agree with the direction new vehicles are heading with turbo charging. It’s a step backwards in my opinion. With that said, I’m in no rush to change platforms.

    I did that waterfall portion on echo canyon with a stock 1st gen 4x4 tacoma with rear locker. It's much taller in person than in videos and not easy. We had to hug the left wall and then cut right once the front wheels were over the top. DV is still the best NP IMO but it's getting crowded....relatively speaking.

      Mr Beast !!! I get it .. I guess it’s based on impact..
      You always do such a great job explaining the trails there and I always wondered about the Amargosa leg of that road, so well covered, my Suby won’t make that part.
      Do you use a lapel mic? The DJI Mic 2 has virtually no wind noise.
      One last Q, have they graded the Warm Springs Butte Valley road? I heard they graded it and any old Subaru can make it in there.

    • @JonDZ_Adventuring

      I have portable clip on mics, but the quality isn’t so great. I had thought about those DJI mics, but the price tag made me think long and hard about out it. I really should find some kind of solution though 😃.

  • @2theprelude
    @2theprelude 6 місяців тому

    Was the blue 4R even 4L? The Tundra and Tacoma definitely did it with less drama, probably because of the longer wheel base.

    • @JonDZ_Adventuring
      @JonDZ_Adventuring  6 місяців тому +1

      As explained in the video, the guy driving the 1st gen Tundra has a lot of off-road experience. Perfect throttle control, good line choice and he didn’t even need a spotter. I also mention that the guy in the blue 4Runner wasn’t use to this difficult 4WD terrain. Take someone inexperienced with an obstacle like this and this was a likely result. To answer your question, yes, he was in 4Lo, you can even hear the spotter ask “is your rear locker on?”. All his goodies were engaged.

    • @2theprelude
      @2theprelude 6 місяців тому +1

      @@JonDZ_Adventuring just had to ask. Sometimes they think they're in 4L, but really they weren't. Agree with the off-road experience, but I have seen time and time again that a longer wheel base can be an advantage on certain obstacles even tho break over angle is worse. Keep the videos coming...
