What happened when this psycho arrived in ECW?

- Just a short video today as I'm strapped for time since arriving home. Lots of great stuff coming at you next week. This was originally a Patreon video which I've had to repurpose. Here is Psycho Sid in ECW for a short run on Ring Of The Hawk. I thought this was an interesting one as Sid hasn't spoke much about his time in ECW as he can't remember it!
Sid was over EVERYWHERE he went. Pretty impressive, honestly
He doesn't get enough credit
imagine a match with mike awosome
Sid could've been the next Hulk Hogan but I think his priorities were softball #1, bodybuilding #2 and pro wrestling #3. It was his dedication that was lacking. He was organically over wherever he went. He was a natural draw. He just had the "it" factor level to the max. Only Hogan comes close to that "it" factor being so high that even their weaknesses are forgotten. Hogan and Sid weren't the best wrestlers, and Sid had great charisma and top tier presence, but if he talked too long on the mic, he wasn't very good. But the thing is, we all knew that and we didn't care, because it was so fun to see Sid coming in any promotion and take on the biggest names it offered, and it was so much fun to see him destroy his opponents with textbook powerbombs. Really sad that he passed away. I've been on a Sid binge watch ever since I got the news!
It's a shame that Sid constantly skipped out on, or lost interest in wrestling.
He was an absolute beast and a believable monster everywhere he appeared.
He gets it. No wasted motions and maximum character-work.
That injury happened at a real bad time in his career. He'd seen his best days, an injury like that could motivate a person who's shorter into their career to come back, dude was about 15 years in though, he'd accomplished enough.
@@TheRealAhoy agreed, and it was a fucking nasty, life changing injury. He had a Joe Theisman-esk compound leg fracture 🦴 🍗🦵
@@TheRealAhoy and he'd already given 15 years and was a veteran by the time he stopped (as you said) and him not really being dedicated anymore and just wanting to chill and enjoy life and softball, I don't blame him. It would have been awesome to have seen him in WWF during the attitude era though and selfishly I wish he would have had a bit longer of a career for all the above mentioned OPs commented reasons
@@InsShogunGage As an older athlete most people retire if they get a serious injury. When you're younger, it's easier to recover, and there is a bucket list of stuff that has probably not been filled a huge amount. 2 WrestleMania main events, lots of championships, lots of money made, I'd say apart from the injury he was pretty satisfied with how his career panned out.
Yeah he still had a hall of fame career. Imagine where hed be if he gave a damn though lol
Sid in 2000 was probably the best thing about the sinking ship, his Millennium Man Gimmick was awesome.
Breaking his leg is legit still (and hopefully always) the worst injury on wrestling tv ever. Sid is a full on superstar.
Words can't express how much it sucks that this man has passed away at the relatively young age of sixty-three. It's been two days now and I'm still in shock by the sad news, because he was such a strong force of nature. R.I.P. Sid, you're missed. 🙏
Sid is the kinda wrestler, where you just need to look at him for 1 second and you know immidiately what he's about. Great look. Fantastic presence.
I found that funny that joey styles was complaining that sid wasn't wearing wrestling gear when some of ECW top guys don't
And Bubba called Sid a homophobic slur and then said he'd pit his dick down his throat...making him a homophobic slur.
Most of the damn roster didn’t 😂
Umm....Saturn and Kronos did.....umm..Taz. Shane Douglas and Tommy Dreamer.......yeah, can't remember too many others. Part of that ECW charm I suppose.
@@robcressey7228 Guido, RVD, Corino, Jerry Lynn, Lance Storm, Mike Awesome, Tanaka, there were a few.
You'd think Joey would be happy that anyone wears anything.
Of all the wrestlers over the past 30 years or so, Sid is certainly one of the most intimidating by far, he was a legit monster.
Sid was so damn cool, R.I.P. big man.
Coming back today after his passing just to see this Monster!
Sid was the unmasked version of Kane before his existence 😂
Makes sense, consider kane and taker's matches usually stunk.
He wrestled as Lord Humongous in USWA and even faced Undertaker when he was known as Master of Pain
unnecessary and untrue insult
Sid talked in a shoot interview, that he loved being in ECW. Paul stopped booking him for whatever reason and Sid went to WCW. Sid vs Taz in 99 would have been a big match for ECW.
Probably money & since Sid was from the big promotions Paul probably knew he couldn’t get away with not paying him like he did with most of the ECW talent
paul stopped booking him bcuz he was going to wcw
Paul quit booking Sid because Sid did not want to play basketball with his pay check.
It was basically over money. And the fact that Hall and Nash was pushing hard with Bischoff to get him back into WCW.
Sid v. Taz for the ECW World Title would've been solid and an awesome bout, especially for TNN ratings. But we can dream, can't we?
I had to come back here to watch this again good times I’ve seen all from 1980-Now I watch all promotions around the world I attended every ECW PPV what a life of wrestling throughout the decades
Technically his last televised match was against Heath Slater. Granted it barely a match but it still counts
R.I.P. Sid
RIP Psycho Sid 12/16/1960 - 8/26/2024.
Sid had one of the most intimidating looks/presence in wrestling, and one of the best powerbombs.
You hit my overall view of Sid a minute in. He never loved the business but he was a professional. We’ll never know what he could’ve been if he really cared.
Sid`s powerbombs were always my favorite.
RIP Sid.
"softball/Psycho" Sid Vicious/Justice/Lord Humongous (R.I.P.)
Sid is an interesting case as he was never " The Guy" but was always over he definitely had a unique charisma about him. Though he never seemed too stay long in any promotion
He's a guy who could have been "The Guy" if his heart had been in wrestling and he was a little smarter about doing business. Dude had a strong run wherever he went from the start of his career as a version of Lord Humongus to the end in WCW. Million dollar body and a ten cent mind.
His entrance as champion, bumping fists as people scream YOU DA MAN! they even based an adult swim cartoon character off his look and faces. The venture bros.
4x world champ and he was never "The Guy" you say?
@@1roundleft821 hhh was a 13 time world champion he was never the guy just because you a multiple time world champion doesn’t make you the guy
@Jonathan Coleman if you say that then you must've not watched WCW or WWF back then. Sid definitely was the guy.
SID vs. Mike Awesome couldve been a HUGE match if Sid stuck around . Or vs . Tanaka , Rhino or even Dreamer . He was over with the crowd for sure ! He dismantled two of their top teams . While he is better in short bursts , a wild brawl of a match between Sid and Sabu would have been fun to watch ! Hell , throw Sandman in there too lol ! That would be a way to write Sid off , Sandman caning him into oblivion before Sabu crushes him through a table ! My timeline may be off so forgive me .
“He was a professional” Didn’t he miss multiple shows for softball lol I love Sid, but he definitely didn’t have a reputation for being a professional
In retrospect man could you imagine sid in the wwf hardcore division him just chokeslamming and powerbombing fools through tables
I was at the ECW House Part Show in 99 in the arena and man the crowd was hyped. You knew what you were getting with Sid. Straight forward to the point...Reminded me of 911's run doing Paul E's bidding as same with Sid & Jeff Jones. I saw Sid in the WWF on Monday night Raw when he had the title on 11/18/96 which is the night after he won it from HBK at Survivor Series. It was a quick win for Sid by count out vs HHH but then after Raw was off the air he defended the title in a longer match vs Vader and won. I know I still have disposable camera pics somewhere from that night.
My grandfather had a cheater box back in the day so he would record all the WCW ppvs and bring them over to me on VHS. That was the best so I always loved Sid back then in his Skyscraper Days w Dan Spivey as his partner.
He definitely had the worst non life threatening injury I've ever witnessed...and the fact he didn't wanna do the spot and was nervous but did it anyway haunted him for a long time. I'm glad he at least got to get back to the WWE 1 last time to beat Heath Slater I believe it was post injury
Spike Dudley so underrated literally the absolute best bump man in the business nobody I mean nobody took bumps like spike
Hell yeah! Sid was surprisingly professional and a pro with us. Zero issues.
Sid was an absolute unit. Makes the dudleys look like little kids
was expecting higher than a C after you were rightfully gushing the whole video. im gonna officially change Sid's grade to a B+ here, let the records show.
Jacob Van Veldhuizen Yeah I think this Aussie, Brit or whatever the hell he is made a huge error. Honestly, A for me. Would be an A+ if he was there longer and had a storyline.
@Ryan Butler too short of a run to be A. Top of C or bottom B makes more sense
Always liked Sid and his powerbomb is too sweet.
That injury is the one thing remember Sid by in WCW and it still terrified me
Mmaaannn, I remember that as well. I first saw that, that was the first time me and my mom went "Ooooooo shyt".
Sid in ECW was the promotion's Squash match king since 911 only did chokeslams.
Funny to hear you describe Skull Von Crush as "Vito From WCW". I remember when he was in WCW he was often described as Vito from The Baldies in ECW.
Was gonna make a snarky comment about Vader getting that last Sid title run but then saw that GORGEOUS double choke slam and finally got why he was worth all the hassles & stabbing a.
I think the lost house show was against Steve Corino. I remember seeing highlights of a squash match on Hardcore Television where Sid yelled after pinning him, "I HAVE JUST TAKEN THIS MAN'S SOUL!! WHAT SHALL I GIVE HIM IN RETURN?!?" Then took a piece of gum he was chewing and put it in Corino's mouth.
Sid was the ultimate free agent back in the day. Dirt sheets would always be talking about where he might show up next. One of the few guys who could really move the needle during the epic wars of the Monday nights, just the chance he might show up made you wanna turn in.
Sid being brought back to WCW in 1999 was 100% because of this run in ECW. It was awesome.
Sid it’s one of my favorite wrestlers no because of his in ring skills but because of his bumbling promos, goofy ah reactions and in general his lack of understanding simple things he always looks lost, confused or plain dumb but man does he looks like he’s having a great time lmao
Yes ❤
The 90s had the best characters in wrestling
Weirdly it also had a lot of the worst characters, too.
@@jimbo_1312 we can blame the Vinces & Jim Herd. McMahon's day job gimmicks, Russos Jerry Springer gimmicks and Herd's just stupid gimmicks.
@@loboneiner1034 facts! Imagine wanting to turn Ric Flair into Spartacus or telling Barry Wyndham he's now "the stalker" or turning a fucking guerrero into a turkey mascot.
Keith lee 30 matches please
🔝🔥
He should have stayed in WWE
@@dogmd7 He didn’t even leave he got fired because he didn’t lose weight
Yes, please! Lol guy's opinion of himself/ego are just as inflated as he is
Who?
Psycho Sid for Hall of Fame!
Sid was perfect for ECW, he was like 911 but better and the psycho gimmick worked better there, it had more room to grow
His role with Shawn Michaels was perfect for him. He wasn't a good wrestler, but was perfect as an enforcer/bodyguard.
Fun fact my cousin has been neighbors with sid for over 30 years. They have dinner together all the time. He's a great dude
I wish we would of got a Sid vs Giant/Big Show I don't think they were ever the same company at the same time 😏
The funny thing is you said, "Sid was prolly paid for..." knowing damn well that [most] ECW checks bounced like basketballs😂.
Nice ! Cool to relive but I knew this would be short . I only remember Sid in ECW maybe twice . But I like how you dive into rare times like this one .
Sid has always been one of my favorite guys.... From a wrestling character standpoint.
😅👍
Sid was like the one wrestler in the 90s that existed in his on universe because you couldn't call him a WWE guy, ECW guy or a WCW guy yet he had success in all 3 companies plus he did all of that without really playing a major part in the Monday Night War which is weird because every major star at that time was on one side or the other during that time.
He is the master and ruler of the world after all
Huh, I'm surprised, I looked up that other Sid match and it was apparently a Hardcore TV taping in Detroit.
ECW used to hire Rob Feinstein's company for TV tapings & house shows and most of the shows they were at got released on video as fancams so I'm surprised to see there's nothing on this one. Either RF's guys weren't there or they never converted the show to DVD like they did for others years ago. They also didn't convert the Mass Transit show from 96 so it's why the footage of that online still looks like VHS quality.
I was at that show it was held a The Collosium at the Michigan State Fair grounds it was an amazing live show. Sid threw a guy threw a table like he did in the video then the light went out and RvD and Sabu took Sid out when the lights came back on. The Dudleys fought balls Mahoney and spike and they fought into the stands 2 feet from us and I handed Bubba a chair that he used on Balls I will never forget that show.
I still can’t watch him break his leg without turning my head. It’s so brutal
He should've stayed. He would've risked not getting that horrific injury and the longer career he could've had in wrestling. We could've seen him in badass feuds with Mike Awesome, Bam Bam Bigelow, RVD, Sabu and Rhyno. Plus, he would've definitely had an intriguing big role during Invasion.
Heyman didn't pay any of his talent. I don't think Sid was dumb enough to ; stay there if he wasn't getting paid
I can still hear the commercial in my head - “the arena debut… of SID”.
Imagine if he'd stayed through the tnn era. He'd be the ecw champion following taz.
This just made me a Sid fan. All i remember about sid from my childhood was him snapping his leg in half.
Man you way late lol
I was a big Sid/Syd/Sid Vicious/Sid Justice, actually my favourite period was his 1999-2000 WCW as the empire was collapsing he had some pretty good matches especially with Goldberg and Scott Stiener much like Mr Perfect Curt Hennig had a pretty good WCW run as the top Face
What a great time in wrestling. You never knew what was going to happen and big stars could show up anywhere.
Can you take a look at Retribution faction in "Was it any good"?
Omg! Finally, a video about Sid/ Sid vicious/ Sid Justice/ psycho sid
They screwed Sid over in WCW when they had him job to Goldberg during his streak.. That could have been one hell of a feud..
the fact that he says he doesn't remember being in ECW is such a Sid thing to do lol
RIP. My 2nd favorite big man after Andre the Giant
I remmeber seeing the leg break live and vomiting. almost 20 years later i broke my same bones in a car accident, and am super trigger by such injuries now. I always felt he should have been a main event. he oozed charisma
Sid was A+ I saw him live he had the crowd going crazy with power bombs and choke slams .
One of the best jokes I heard about Psycho Sid was if you seen a guy given that look that he gives his opponents in a bar I think that most people would want to run like hell or here is the keys to my car my money and please don't kill me...
I think that his face and physical look did better talking than he did in promos
Love how the referee jumps as Sid drops his opponent with the powerbomb 😂
Rest in Peace to the Master and Ruler of the World!!
never forget his ecw run as a kid he was scariest guy to me
Rip Sid
4:30 Nova's gear has me saying "thats gotta be (Blue) Kane"
I still can’t believe he loves softball. Random pairing
Forget JBL, Sid is the REAL wrestling god.
Rest in power Sid
When I got the notification I immediately clicked on it😉
That ECW run gives off Lesnar vibes. Having a mouth piece for him and just destroying people with a few moves in Lesnar style.
Didn't know Sid wrestled for ECW. Learn something new each day.
I met Sid when he wrestled for high all championship wrestling .He was so personable and nice .
Sid had a very intimidating look and a decent enough promo as a heel. He only needed to be a monster heel not a watered down babyface
Lmao sids promo skills
"It's kick or be kickin" 😳
"Can we cut and go again"
Mene gene: we're live pal.
@@jimbo_1312 that was Jim Ross
@@UndergroundSkat2000 weird... Mandela effect, had me convinced it was mean gene. My bad
Living Dangerously 99 was the first ECW PPV I ever ordered and my mind was everywhere! Seeing Sid made it even crazier!
Hey Markyd, in this season of Ring of the Hawk we’ve seen a lot of attitude era stuff, maybe you can do a video of the Mean Street Posse run in Wwf between 1999 and 2000, I don’t think they can do the JOB😅
Great idea
Please do ring of the hawk for ODB’s time in TNA.
"SID IS GONNA KILL YOU"
Like taz before him or Samoa Joe after...
I remember Sid’s ECW run pretty well, I ate it up. I thought Heyman used him perfectly for what he was at that point in his career. I don’t know what the payoff longterm would have been if he had stayed longer, but the crowds were electric everytime he showed up. It was fun while it lasted.
SID was awesome💪nobody had more entertaining squash matches that him
dude that spot with bubba ray throwing spike out to the crowd was insane
His run was awesome in the moment. It was a sad day when he signed with WCW.
I loved this run. This is how you bring in a monster. No mysterious powers or obnoxious manager. Just a big mean dude with a possible mental illness. Extremely believable. This is my favourite run of his career. We were all disappointed when he went to WCW. He fit in really well on ECW TV. We were expecting a title run.
Sid should have more championships and should have had the chance to even become ECW WORLD CHAMP!
the fans were SO rowdy every single time he was coming out. didnt matter who he was pointlessly squashing xD
The ECW run of Sid I don't remember much either, other than the ECW Mutants cheered for him like a bunch of marks, after being usually the ones who would hate the kind of character Sid is.
I was one of those marks, baby!
Yeah them cheering Sid literally went against their whole counter culture thing
You guys really didn't pay attention. The ECW crowd loved big ass dudes. 911, Primetime Brian Lee, Big Sal, Mike Awesome, Bam Bam Gordy and Bigelow.
Sid was diff he seemed like the type of a wrestler made for ecw
What are you even basing your opinion on? What part of Sid's "character" didn't ECW fans like before he went there? It's ok to admit you're basing your opinion on nothing and just want to call people "marks" to pretend like you're above them. You can be honest here.
Wardlow needs to take notes on how to perform a powerbomb by watching Sid !
I remember that time well. I didnt know The Judge is in AEW.
I actually loved sids run in ecw wasn't that long and he didn't over stay his welcome also the ecw fans loved him and chanted his name
Sid was one of the most intimidating wrestlers in late 1980's early 1990's. His shoulders looked like pumpkins with his muscle definition.
I never knew Sid had been in ECW. That's cool.
I'm 44 now and Sid was the SCARIEST guy in wrestling my whole young life!
Interestingly Sid also appeared in Memphis' version of ECW, KAW, around this same time. And there it was largely good mic work
Him and stiner together would make the best shortest book ever written it would be called I'm half the man you are holler if you hear me😂😂
RIP great great wrestler one of my all time faves !
I'm confused. Sid debuted at Gultily as Charged (1999) which is listed right, but you refer to it as if its Barley Legal (1997)
I've always liked Sid too. I like his unhinged persona and his promos. He gets a lot of crap for being a doofus but that aloofness adds to his charm. I think he helped make 1999 a fun year for ECW even though he wasn't there for very long.
