  • Just a short video today as I'm strapped for time since arriving home. Lots of great stuff coming at you next week. This was originally a Patreon video which I've had to repurpose. Here is Psycho Sid in ECW for a short run on Ring Of The Hawk. I thought this was an interesting one as Sid hasn't spoke much about his time in ECW as he can't remember it!

Sid could've been the next Hulk Hogan but I think his priorities were softball #1, bodybuilding #2 and pro wrestling #3. It was his dedication that was lacking. He was organically over wherever he went. He was a natural draw. He just had the "it" factor level to the max. Only Hogan comes close to that "it" factor being so high that even their weaknesses are forgotten. Hogan and Sid weren't the best wrestlers, and Sid had great charisma and top tier presence, but if he talked too long on the mic, he wasn't very good. But the thing is, we all knew that and we didn't care, because it was so fun to see Sid coming in any promotion and take on the biggest names it offered, and it was so much fun to see him destroy his opponents with textbook powerbombs. Really sad that he passed away. I've been on a Sid binge watch ever since I got the news!

It's a shame that Sid constantly skipped out on, or lost interest in wrestling.
He was an absolute beast and a believable monster everywhere he appeared.
He gets it. No wasted motions and maximum character-work.

That injury happened at a real bad time in his career. He'd seen his best days, an injury like that could motivate a person who's shorter into their career to come back, dude was about 15 years in though, he'd accomplished enough.

It would have been awesome to have seen him in WWF during the attitude era though and selfishly I wish he would have had a bit longer of a career for all the above mentioned OPs commented reasons

@@InsShogunGage As an older athlete most people retire if they get a serious injury. When you're younger, it's easier to recover, and there is a bucket list of stuff that has probably not been filled a huge amount. 2 WrestleMania main events, lots of championships, lots of money made, I'd say apart from the injury he was pretty satisfied with how his career panned out.

I was at the ECW House Part Show in 99 in the arena and man the crowd was hyped. You knew what you were getting with Sid. Straight forward to the point...Reminded me of 911's run doing Paul E's bidding as same with Sid & Jeff Jones. I saw Sid in the WWF on Monday night Raw when he had the title on 11/18/96 which is the night after he won it from HBK at Survivor Series. It was a quick win for Sid by count out vs HHH but then after Raw was off the air he defended the title in a longer match vs Vader and won. I know I still have disposable camera pics somewhere from that night.
My grandfather had a cheater box back in the day so he would record all the WCW ppvs and bring them over to me on VHS. That was the best so I always loved Sid back then in his Skyscraper Days w Dan Spivey as his partner.
He definitely had the worst non life threatening injury I've ever witnessed...and the fact he didn't wanna do the spot and was nervous but did it anyway haunted him for a long time. I'm glad he at least got to get back to the WWE 1 last time to beat Heath Slater I believe it was post injury

ECW used to hire Rob Feinstein's company for TV tapings & house shows and most of the shows they were at got released on video as fancams so I'm surprised to see there's nothing on this one. Either RF's guys weren't there or they never converted the show to DVD like they did for others years ago. Sid had a very intimidating look and a decent enough promo as a heel. He only needed to be a monster heel not a watered down babyface

Hey Markyd, in this season of Ring of the Hawk we’ve seen a lot of attitude era stuff, maybe you can do a video of the Mean Street Posse run in Wwf between 1999 and 2000, I don’t think they can do the JOB😅

I remember Sid’s ECW run pretty well, I ate it up. I thought Heyman used him perfectly for what he was at that point in his career. I don’t know what the payoff longterm would have been if he had stayed longer, but the crowds were electric everytime he showed up. It was fun while it lasted.

I loved this run. This is how you bring in a monster. No mysterious powers or obnoxious manager. Just a big mean dude with a possible mental illness. Extremely believable. This is my favourite run of his career. We were all disappointed when he went to WCW. He fit in really well on ECW TV. We were expecting a title run.

The ECW run of Sid I don't remember much either, other than the ECW Mutants cheered for him like a bunch of marks, after being usually the ones who would hate the kind of character Sid is.

You guys really didn't pay attention. The ECW crowd loved big ass dudes. 911, Primetime Brian Lee, Big Sal, Mike Awesome, Bam Bam Gordy and Bigelow.

What are you even basing your opinion on? What part of Sid's "character" didn't ECW fans like before he went there? It's ok to admit you're basing your opinion on nothing and just want to call people "marks" to pretend like you're above them. You can be honest here.

I've always liked Sid too. I like his unhinged persona and his promos. He gets a lot of crap for being a doofus but that aloofness adds to his charm. I think he helped make 1999 a fun year for ECW even though he wasn't there for very long.
