I've had three e-bikes over the last twenty years. And I'm 76. The first was an Optima Orca that I refitted with an electric motor. The second was an electric Bike Friday. My favorite is my Brompton that I added the Grin Technologies kit to. I've stopped driving. Why drive when you can bike to your destination and get your exercise at the same time? The idea of driving to the gym and/or pool makes no sense, at all. Even in the winter I will bike most days and I live in Michigan. I average about ten miles day, five or six days a week. Some days I'll do twenty miles, no problem. People think that I'm ten or fifteen years younger than I actually am. In a better world we would restructure the cities so that most people could ride their bikes everywhere... going in the direction of countries like the Netherlands - home of the world's tallest and healthiest people.
That's not the half of it. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my knees when I complained to my doctor about clicking in my joints when I walked upstairs at home. That was 23 years ago. She suggested glucosamine chondroitin and after I started taking the supplement the clicking stopped about three months later. I think that the biking helps with blood flow and circulation. The ebike helps me to keep things at a reasonable pressure level. I've always liked bike riding but I got in to it as a regular form of exercise. 18 months ago I had surgery to repair a torn meniscus (from a surfing accident over fifty years ago) that was giving me some problems. The x-rays and MRI's taken at the time showed no cartilage loss. The knees were in otherwise very good condition. I just got back from riding 26 miles today on my electrified Brompton. It is frequently possible to recover and repair if you approach your problems with intelligence and consistency.
I'm 5'1" and live in a hilly area... of these five I tested personally, the Model R ( alnk.to/8tNL7Ld ) and Portola ( go.ride1up.com/SH5A ) are great options to get her enough hill power and fit comfortably!

You're welcome and I hope you find the perfect ebike for you!
Great video with info, especially for a senior thinking about getting an ebike. ❤
I know it can be a big decision, so I'm glad you found it helpful!
The difficulty is finding a powerful e-bike for our hills that fits my wife at 5'02

Thanks for the detail, rather just saying "e bikes are good for us"😂
I’m glad you found the details helpful!
Applies if you pedal, I see lots of e bike riders that do not pedal one iota.
It's important to be active, no matter how you get there!
Respectfully this is information that literally everyone already knows .
Take it as a good reminder to stay active… and one fun way to do it!
