Just biked there today with the BF and his new bike. This is my favorite place to ride; I'm glad only 82 people have viewed this b/c I want it to remain a secret! I like the tranquility of few people and avoiding cars. Root bumps seem to be becoming more numerous, though. BF and I were just laughing today that we never see eagles at this park! More like rarely, but still :)

Sounds like you had a great time biking! It's always nice to have a secret spot to enjoy the tranquility. The time to really see eagles is late winter to early spring but I normally see at least one amongst the trees.

My two main hobbies Biking and Birding. I'm glad you got into birding or least into one of them. Bald Eagle is such a majestic birds to see. 👍

It's great to connect with fellow nature enthusiasts. I do love watching your birding videos. Biking, birding, and observing nature are such fulfilling hobbies. We are both lucky to share our experiences on our UA-cam channels.

So majestic ❤! I was wondering when you guys drive your bikes to a trail, have you thought about showing or including information where the parking is located?

Thank you! That is always a great idea to get parking information. We used to do it in our older videos. This bike tour started at Pohick Regional Park which has plenty of parking. I did this video so long ago, that I just realized it is a winter video. The best time to see a lot of eagles is nesting time in the late winter. But normally when I ride around the Potomac River I see an eagle. Which is still thrilling to me.

@@RideandShineBicycling thanks for the info. I did notice all the winter riding gear and thought, “they must have a lot of videos in the archives” lol 😂

It has only been in the last 10 to 15 years that eagles have begun thriving on the Potomac near DC. The Woodrow Wilson Bridge rebuild actually had a staff person in charge of keeping an eye on the eagles on the Maryland side of the bridge. Since then there have been eagle nests popping up every mile or so along the Mount Vernon Trail. There is a new-ish one at Candlewood Drive and the GW Parkway. Eagles will abandon nests then establish new ones. Occasionally they'll take up residence in a tree in someone's yard. And don't get me started about ospreys. They're all over the place.

It seems the Eagles are taking full advantage of the prime real estate near the Potomac. Even though it is pretty common to see one on the Mount Vernon Trail, it still amazes me. Thanks for the heads up on Candlewood Drive, I will definitely check it out.
