    It's not that they love riding; it's the system. We had Dutch engineers come visit my company. to and from the airport everything is by car. They openly said that if they lived in the U.S., they wouldn't even own a bike.

    I lived in Soest, Netherlands 3 years. I rode often. The paths and lanes are perfect . Returning to US, and its dangerous idea of narowing roads with painted lines and stupid green trafic light boxes gives riders a false sense of safety and entitlement. Often youll see white bicycles to memorialze spots were these same entitled riders were run over and died.

      I know they make a telescopic seat posts for tall people. You will have to test out the various handle bars to see which one you like. According to the gazillions of articles written by Brompton users, the Brompton can handle just about anything. I can zip up the hill with no problem. I have 6 gears on my C-line but I would think you would need at least 3 gear for hills.Thank you for your interest! ...and Welcome to the fold!

    I don't understand. Almost all bikes are designed where the rider is leaning forward and the head needs to be lifted. Doesn't this cause that same compression in the neck? So why don't all bike riders suffer from neck pain? Maybe they are using exercises or techniques that help the pain instead of just keeping their heads down, which they don't.

    • @RideandShineBicycling
      @RideandShineBicycling 15 днів тому

      It's a valid point! I want to know the answer. There are various factors at play, including bike fit, riding posture, and individual conditioning that can affect neck pain in cyclists. But you would have to ask a doctor, I just interviewed one. Thanks for the observation.

    I’m pretty sure others have proven scientifically that tires really don’t need to be deflated. Also, you may find it easier to keep the pentaclip attached to the saddle and just loosen the pentaclip bolt just enough to remove the combined saddle/pentaclip from the seatpost. To make the bike even more compact, you can then drop the seatpost out the bottom of the seat tube and store it separately in the suitcase, likely padded by some clothes. You may also consider keeping your helmet out of the checked luggage to avoid unseen damage. Glad to see you made it all fit though!

    • @RideandShineBicycling
      @RideandShineBicycling 18 днів тому

      I appreciate your detailed advice. That is interesting about the tires, I have read it and tried it both ways. It does seem that they do not need to be deflated. One less step is always good. I like the idea to include the pentaclip on the saddle, next time I will try this. Thanks for the tips.

    Those triangles on the road surface aren't just for cyclists, they apply to ALL traffic. If the triangles point to you, you must yield. At all times. Also, when a pedestrian is in the process of crossing a pedestrian crossing, all traffic must halt. Cyclists too! Many people tend to forget that.

      People have smirked at me while I am on my Brompton bike. Yes, I might look like a weirdo on my clown bike, but I still love it. The Tern and the Dahon do look more like a regular bike. Beauty is in the eye of the bike holder!

    Rovers, Jaguars, and MGs were also engineered in the UK. 😬. Just saying “local” isn’t always better (or worse). Both seem great. Brompton for size when folded, Tern Link for “real bike” ride and (almost) speed.

    The Tern is a fine bicycle... until you want to fold it up.

    You are able to buy a "Special Brompton trailer", made to hold a folded Brompton, and using Brompton size wheels!!! I sadly can't remember its name, but it may be Dutch? - with a little research, it is a Radical Design, Cyclone IV, "Chubby"! Finn. Denmark

    • @dawn_rider
      @dawn_rider 24 дні тому

      The ibikeunfolded video " The Best Brompton Trailer (EVER) " covers it. The 'Chubby' is double the price but more stable and functional than the Travoy, not being attached to the seatpost. Brian is still using the Chubby for touring . He has the Travoy but I think he only uses it for long loads. BTW , UA-cam refuses to let me use links ( again ) which is why I had to quote the video name.

      @@dawn_rider I have several times been banned for mentioning usefull items here, so I know! I have a slightly folding trailer, with a water-sealed bag on it, for use with an ordinary size bike, and I suppose it could be used on my (> 9 kilo) Superlight Brompton also? At least I brought it when I moved to my wife, with a usefull, large cellar!😄 Finn. Denmark

    Hi Beth👋🏾👋🏾😃! I agree. Sometimes in life it takes a flathead and curse words to make things work lollllll 😂😂. I like that Burley Travoy trailer setup and all of its capabilities. Pretty cool 😎.
