It's amazing that they were pulling all these tricks off on s1100s and Amigas
No doubt, had to want it bad. We really do have it good these days
tried to make some stuff on a sequencer simulator from that era and lets just say it felt more like coding than making music lmao
One thing I find difficult these days is I don't have technical limitations to overcome and inspire creativity. I started with a Tascam 244 then I modified it so I could sync my Atari to it. Then I got a 16-track digital multitracker and even that had limitations. But now there are more possibilities than I can handle and I'm forever stuck in analysis paralysis! 🥺
It was great fun using a rather souped up Amiga 1200, then later an even more souped up Amiga 2000. We cut some nice dub plates at Music House in Tottenham in 1995 - 98. Have fun and try to experiment as much as possible when you have nailed the fundamentals.
I thinnk one of the ways this channel shines is even with the unlimited tracks and plug ins available Mr Forms demonstrates traditional ways of doing things as if he was using the classic gear, sampling chords into the samplers, artifical echos using veloicity and the video on the TAL sampler showed deep knowledge of the old Akais as well etc. Just great stuff.
Thank you for this one - I really love your recent approaches to fundamentals. Brilliant dude
cheers man
Thank you so much once again for showing us all those techniques! 🙏 Especially how to find, slice and creatively rearrange the drums, no wonder it is called intelligent dnb lol 👌
Great stuff
This is invaluable. Great video!!the song inspiration surely has to be Pulse of Life ;)
Cheers mate. And ;)
Nice nice nice. I just had to stop after a few seconds, and launch Bitwig and lay down some ideas, when inspiration hits hard. Then pick up the video again ;) Thanks!
when the inspiration hits, gotta get it down asap! Love it. thanks mate!
Absolutely. Have a great evening.@@Thought-Forms
Thank you!
Really appreciate the help as always ❤
Anything for you 😉 keep up the hard work!
I absolutely love everything in this video. Excellent work!😊❤
thanks friend!
Letssa gooo! Another banger of a vid
LETS GOOOOOOO
Can’t wait for you to drop these new sounds !
just wrapped em up! coming soon :)
You ever make any old school sounding trance mate? Love the vibe of this d&b stuff and early trance had some of them ambient, spacey, type of sounds
I have not! I've been studying up on my 90s trance over the past few weeks though ;) Also, there is a dude on UA-cam, Enigma State, who puts out 90s style trance on an old Atari ST, go check him out, really good music & he's doing it the legit oldschool way
@@Thought-Forms Awsome. Yes Enigma State is great, I have both of his vinyl releases here! Love your channel. Keep up the good work.
Great work dissecting this! I love the original Sentinel/Photek tune. The way the pad drops and the diva vocals are just great. 😍
Cheers mate ;) When those pads hit...hnggggg
I love D & B from this years.
me too mate, the best!
I love this dude, I learnt a lot from you from the recently posted video on the long drawn intros of early drum n bass, could you talk a little bit about melodies and instrumentation creating an elaborate and jazzy palette using reference to the artists such as blame?
thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it! certainly a topic i can look into :) cheers
ready for another banger!
LETSSSS GO
love this track.
thanks luna!
Cant wait for the new triton pack!
agreed with the roland cloud stuff. especially the damn tb-303 that keeps crashing my sessions, so now im using hardware instead for my acid sounds
Brutal stuff, you on a Mac or Windows? At the point where buying a physical xv-5080 would be a better idea
@@Thought-Forms windows. i havent had nearly as many issues with other roland plugins, but the tb-303 has a high chance of crashing and corrupting my session. i think i'm better off sending midi out and cc to my mc-307 and recording the audio back into my daw
Very nice! Do you have a video on layering samples, eg for atmospheric pads?
cheers friend, I do have a bunch of videos on that topic - check out my "ambient pad" playlist
i love your videos! i love the ambient, 90’s theme a lot of them have. I was wondering if you could make a video on how to make music like from Manhunt? The soundtrack to that game is totally the vibe of your usual stuff.
Thanks mate! Great suggestion, that game was brutal. I know they used a lot of samples (very similar production technique to the silent hill OSTs) - think some of the Zero-G ambient stuff
@@Thought-Forms Yeah! I tried making a Manhunt like track today and used some silent hill ambience with some low synths
Awesome video, im waiting the "Make Intelligent DnB like Artemis/Shogun"
Luckily I'm 95% certain what synth Artemis was using, now to just write the track...the hard part 😬
need
What synth you think?

fast arp that makes notes sound like shimmering a chord-pad FUCKIN BRILL, love it. there goes the weekend! Thanks 👍 Question are you worried about any piled up transients by layering breaks or is it better to worry with it in the mixdown?
arpeggiating pads = s tier. have another video on my channel that goes more in depth on the concept (titled: "Use This Device To Transform Your Ambient Pads".) and not at all, if it becomes a problem I'll typically just clip / compress on either the break level or drum group level (or both)
ok, i'll give it a gander in the wknd. thanks for the other info too. will investigate the patreon in the eknd too because i've never chopped breaks before but i am intrigued to learn as i like this music (i sadly miseed out on because i was a rivethead back then ha...which i neither regret ;))
Bloody awesome as usual, no hardware used ?
No hardware this time
Would love to see an M1 sound set as well! What’s the best way to email / contact you?
M1 is one I need to tackle next! Out of all the Korg rompler line, I've probably spent the least amount of time with it. Email is on my channel home page, click the links at the top, and under the "about" section -> "View email address"
Do “Diva Vocals” have anything to do with the Diva synthesizer? Where does the term diva vocal come from?
Where do you source your Hot Pants? Are you nicking it off of completed tracks? Sample packs? 2nd gen sources? I always seems to mess it up when using the OG version. I can't get the tambourines to flow quite right.
old sample cd's. not sure the exact one i got this one from, it was labeled as "impulse tracker packs -> BREAKS for play" and appears to have been sampled into an s900
third day asking for acid like destruction derby 64 🙈
Is this just a song he made if so thanks for showing us
Love this sound
I made this one, inspired by a tune by another artist :)
That’s shaker is way to sharp,
How did you get each slice to last an 8th note? Or are they not exactly an 8th note each
In Bitwig you can right click -> slice to drum machine at even 1/8 notes, then you just trigger the midi note for a full 1/8th note
@@Thought-Forms how do you deal with the 8th note slices not hitting zero points though? Is the break pre prepared so no hits cross over the 8th note points
Dude yes, more down tempo shit. Can you release your discog on UA-cam music man?
More on the way! I'm trying to get all my released stuff to attach to my channel, so hopefully soon
