Making Spiderman's Web-The Liquid Rope Experiment with Nylon 6,10
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 сер 2024
- In this video I show you a cool experiment synthesizing a nylon polymer from two different liquids. Some have called this the nylon rope trick. I talk about spiderman's web and if it is possible for him to use this method to make his spiderwebs. I talk a little about the chemistry behind what is happening here. Then I find the inner Peter Parker in me and try to make my own spiderweb. I talk about nylon and why this cool phenomenon happens.

Where's the gauntlet?
Lmao

Great comment LMAO😂
What if Thanos added a web shooter to his gauntlet 😱
If you structured the web you made it would be 5x stronger!
This is because 5 points (the sticks). And 15 feet of web, divided by 5 is 3, so assuming the 5 points were in perfect shape and the web was weaved 3 times over inbetween each strand to the middle, it would make it able to withstand (if the original was 15 grams of force, it could with stand 75 grams. though, spidey’s webs have weaving in the rapid release shooting mechanism, so his much stronger polycarbonate webs ( let’s say 10 kg withstanding pressure by one) times by 2 would be 20kg, and with his web weaving shots with about 40 weaves between 20 points each would lead his webs to withstand roughly 200kg or pressure in a 10cm radius. This would mean that 10 meters between buildings with much more points and weaves would make his webs be able to hold over 500kg of pressure depending on the sections provided, so spidery could indeed hold a helicopter above ground, which makes the homecoming scene which he holds a boat together, not so farfetched

Remember that the web shoots out at a very high velocity, this could indicate that highly pressurised liquids could be used, this high pressure could be used to also quicken the reaction so the liquids can be kept in separate compartments and reacted only when needed

Okay... So, here's my Idea- if anyone sees this, that is. Titanium is a relatively light metal- and incredibly durable, and could be able to make two tanks on the back of the hero, or whatever they choose to use it for. One filled with Hexanediamine, and the other with Sebacoyl chloride. This would be a simple way to separate them. The tanks would connect to the two web shooters, and shoot out the web. Liquid would also come out however, and I can't be bothered to find a way to fix that.
Thanks for reading
Or just fill pressurised cartridges with both chemicals, connected thru a tube that shoots the web using pressurised air or sum shit
Have one had shoot one liquid the other shoots the other liquid, do the Kamehameha and shoot both at once
Moon head, that could be a good idea, but you wouldn't have enough to make a large rope, whilst it would be useful for a combat scenario.
@@eli_jc_thompson9848 if you really wanted to swing then youd gave to use steel cable
Moon Head I had a similar idea to yours, actually. Two tanks of the substances connected to a pressurizing pump with the hoses connected to a single web shooter with the two ends meeting right outside the shooter. The pressure would make it go forward.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, but I suspect (without knowing the tensile strength of your version) that Peter Parker uses a different compound for his web solution. It'd be essentially the same concept though, and this was GENUINELY awesome to watch. Smashing that like button now, thank you for the content!
What if you could somehow combine this with carbon nanotubes AND make it adhesive? When Spiderman shoots his webs, they seem to flower out at the top, meaning that in theory it is most likely more sticky as it spreads out. I think that the way that would happen it that as the web flies through the air, the friction separates the web and causes it to do the signature web like production at the end, causing the web to stick to surfaces. Or perhaps its like a bullet, when it hits a surface it compresses the metal outwards and makes it wider. Something tells me, in the near future, we will be seeing something like these.

Not really... gotta be a way to make it stronger.
I have an idea, I'm not that knowledge about chemistry so this idea might seem far fetched but here we go:
1. Find some way to concentrate the chemicals so you can have a much more potent amount in a smaller size.
2. Some kind of Gas propellant alongside the compound to force the mixture out (and as it comes out of the nozzle it will react with each other to form the rope?) Perhaps two different chambers with a liquid in each for this effect? (Provided it isn't corrosive or leaks fumes.)
3. if making a more concentrated liquid and it is harmful to touch, a third liquid to neutralise the PH scale of the mixture? (If possible, this seems like a must, provided it doesn't start breaking down the bonds of the new mixture.
Any comments are welcome and like I say, my chemistry knowledge is limited.
Nice points!
im pretty sure they are both corrosive and you should definitely not inhale hexanediamine vapours

No, it can't

Yea, just noticed it, probably from from chloride ion
I am more of a batman fan, but that is awesome, and the cartridges spiderman use for his webs: in theory he may or may not use those chemicals to carefully conceal them together in between the cartridge with air pressure and when he extends his wrist as the trigger the air pressure begins mixing the chemicals; transforming his web fluid.
You would have to have the barrel of the shooter to have a spiral shape and also like 5 or 10 different barrels in one so you can make a big sturdy web, another thing you would have get is maybe some air pressure built up in the web shooter so it can fire it a good ways away.
it should also be able to cool it so it doesn't break in the attempt

Jk idk
3 cannisters, both of those in long cartridges along with a co2 tank with valves connected to end of the cartridges that are triggered to open when a button is pressed a 3 way tube that comes from the valves and opens up towards the end if the sleeve. Idea is when the chemicals mix the tube will direct and harden the mixture since when exposed to o2 it takes shape out of the tube and having a wide exit for spreadshot or narrow exit for durect shot, whichever you may choose. Enjoy.
he explicitly said the chemicals are NOT supposed to mix though. the polymer forms between them
I believe it's canon that his webs are a "nylon like substance that doesn't smell pleasant", which seems to match this.

Well if they have spidey sense, super strength, super agility, flexibility, wall crawl, wall run, and is experienced with swinging (and other superpowers i will not name cus im lazy) then there you have it. Is all gained through a simple radioactive spider (depends on which spiderman) or a genetically modified spider from oscorp

I love science and you are one cool dude, stick those in a web shooter and you’ll be swinging all over midtown
I can't wait for people to be swinging around New York City, Seattle, etc and then there's people in places, like, Arizona.
Phoenix has Skyscrapers. Just not that many. You could swing around, but it would only be within about a 10 Block area.
That's probably never going to happen until we find a way to genetically modify infants, because even if you find a way to make a silk strong enough to support your weight, there's problems like G-force, or getting your arms dislocated from swinging.
@KDot bet.
Solvem Probler Studios lmao do you not know that no human would be able to swing their body even if they build the tech for the Spider-Man web etc. It’s physically imposible unless you have an exo suit doing the lifting and the landing. But I would see an iron man being more real than a spider man with tech in the future maybe not in our lifetime or maybe not in the next 200 years but that’s the closest superhero we could recreate. You should do a collaboration with backyard scientist
Well maybe Spider-Man kept all the nylon strings put tightly together inside the small container
Anyone else not understand a single thing, but still finds this interesting af?
May I have an autograph Mr. Action Lab Spider Man? ;D
🖊〰〰〰
YAY!
No no no, the biggest hurdle is how can he use that shit to swing without it breaking?
I thought the question was how can he hold on to a tiny string
Well there’s a answer to how u can hold on to the tiny nylon rope I saw somewhere in some books about boats there’s a part in the boat that grabs on to a rope or something and the more pressure but on the rope the tighter that part would hold it so if u could make that in pocket size witch I’m sure u can attach the rope there and that device will hold ur body weight
I can see how to do it... A button that connects a circuit between a battery and two fast spinning gears... The gears pull the nylon through it and shoots it out at high speeds, and when the gears stop, they lock the web into place and stop you from sliding. You can then choose to cut the web with an exacto blade next to the gears. You would need to start the reaction and put a little bit between the gears at the start, allowing this to happen, and you would cut it after the gears, theoretically allowing you to fire more than once.
Gonna do this for my teacher!
Tysm for making this! I learned a lot :)
I did that same experiment in my chemistry class way back in 1978! I thought it was the coolest thing too. We made a bit more nylon than Mr. Action Lab did thought. I remember the ball of nylon afterword was about the size of a racquetball. I remember one of the chemicals was used in photography for developing film I think (it's been a while). We didn't use gloves like he did either. It was a different time back then.
Your channel is cool .....I really like it😄😄

Spiders make very long threads (relative to their body size) so somehow they are able to create large volumes of webbing without storing it in a 1:1 ratio. From my understanding scientists are still unsure how they do it but I’d bet it’s something similar to this just much more efficient.
But they dont usually swing with the web in such ways that it creates enough tension to snap it.
But the question is, Can you hang off of it or can it pull a heavy or just a regular object?
Action Lab : These web ropes are toxic and do not touch them.
Spiderman : Literally shooting these on every villian's face.
wow cool. Do you know what other chemicals have a similar effect when they combine?
Action Figure Lair Ummm...Web Fluid And Air???😂😂
That's what polymers do. Now of course not all of them do what's shown in the video, but they all have that kind of reaction. That's the basics to crafting plastics actually, all plastics are polymers. Paint is too most of times, but in those it's obviously never only polymers, cause you need to have the paint colored or resist the reaction when still in the can etc... Polymers are just one of the biggest inventions.
Action Figure Lair super glue does it with water
Super glue and water
Silicone and water kind of does it

This is so cool!! It would be much cooler if you can explain what happens when the chemicals mix with animation
You should customise a water gun so that in the water chamber it's two tanks and fill one and the other with the stuff and the two tubes become one so they have enough time to mix to become the string and it'll shoot I don't know I'm just "thinking out loud"
He would need a small air compressor for it to shoot out
Blast flies with a loud speaker, since sound travels through air longitudinally via compressions and rarefactions, i wonder if the flies can fly properly
DerpyThe Cate or put them in one of the sonic levatator things
What if you use it for the web thrower? I mean what Peter Parker uses to throw the spider web, using that as fuel could generate the spider web and be able to replicate the original
Ok so how I would imagine Spider-Man actually fire the web is that the web guild canister has a tiny projectile that gets launched to just like the tweezers grab the fluid and push it out
