Well Rav4 has 2 years of wait time for plug-in hybrid, Tucson only has 3-4 month. Rav4 is 4/5 exterior, 1.5/5 interior. Tucson is 5/5 exterior, 5/5 interior for the price range. And also Tucson has 2022 as a model name, it might be a plus when you are selling it. I don't really mind the price difference between 2 of them as Rav4 is utterly boooooring and stuck in early 2010s
Nice review thank you. Took one out for a test drive and was very surprised. I drive a big Audi, which I just can’t justify anymore and I was expecting a big drop in drive quality but the difference wasn’t that great. Probably getting the PHEV because most of my trips are shorter and it makes sense (I made it make sense).
Great review! You are very thorough and have a refreshing honesty. I don't have the access you have, but I would say this outclasses the Honda CR-V Hybrid in both the EX-L and Touring trim. Thanks for the fine review.
They are all great vehicles and it comes down to personal preference. I have viewed all in person except the Rogue but watched many UA-cam videos on the vehicles in discussion. I appreciate the Tucson the most for the specs and presence. Rogue evolved and just looks updated, CR-V looks a bit bulky, Rav-4 is a safe option but has no emotion in the design but the Tucson is something out of this world - literally. The styling is a bit too radical and busy for me as a 40+ male but still I choose it over the competition. They could of avoided the creases on the doors. For me the greatest competitor is the CX-5 however the deal breaker is the absence of a panoramic sun roof. In the others I loathe the CVT transmission.
@@knowledgeishere5072 I looked at all those other models and the Tucson won out easily for the quiet smooth ride compared to R4. And the Venza is a very slow hybrid with cramped room compared to the Tucson,I love this car!
I switched over to Tucson PHEV from rav4 Prime simply because the wait time is 2 yrs on Prime. The only thing I will really miss from Prime is sub 6 sec 0-100kph time. Otherwise, Tucson PHEV even at luxury trim is a better vehicle in every aspect than Prime SE trim (similar price). Both are PHEV and meant for short commute. Fuel cost on electricity is not a big differentiator. Knowing all these, I would still pick Tucson PHEV over Prime for the better value.
Excellent review and personal opinions! 👍 The hepatic buttons is a personal preference thing. I don't like the gloss black as it leaves a lot of dust and fingerprint but it does clean up the dash alot. The starting price isn't cheap but you do get a lot of features that most people would want. Yes, I agree that they should offer a lower trim hybrid. But according to Hyundai Canada's website, all the hybrids models are sold out for the model year 2022! I can't believe it. I'm with you, between the the RAV4 and Tucson, I choose the Tucson. Hyundai isn't a bargain priced car any more. They are just inline with the industry.
Agreed and I actually bought one (the SEL Convenience trim here in the US) this past week. The one I got doesn't arrive until 1/12 though, but I got to test drive the same one (different color) on the lot so I am confident it's fine. I had to have the two two grey/black interior vs the all black as to me it looks way better. They had a non hybrid with that interior and I fell in love.

Toyota RAV4 hybrid has CVT. That alone is an exclusionary criteria for me. I have test driven both and the drive are worlds apart. The Tucson transitions between ICE and EV modes on Smart Drive is so seamlessly that you will need to check your dash to know that it has actually happened. I would consider the RAV4 Prime but I can’t wait 2 years for it.
Hate CVT so much, it's very jarring and jerky feeling when you get up to speed on highway on ramps and accelerating up to speed after stop sign or traffic light.
Toyota Hybrids use E-CVT which utilizes planetary gearsets instead of the traditional belt and pulley system. This setup is more reliable than any CVT and even Toyota's 8 speed.
@@toddysurcharge771 You won't get that with Toyota's hybrids as they utilize a ECVT setup that is completely different from a belt-pulley system found in traditional CVTs. E-CVT uses an electric motor/generator to adjust the rpm of planetary gearsets which acts as gear ratios.
Hi, what would you choose between the Tucson Hybrid ultimate or the RAV4 hybrid XSE with technology package? The RAV4 is $2500 more and the wait time for both is about 12 months?
