I may be mistaken, but I believe the title is a reference to the CAS number of aminobutyric acid/GABA? (56-12-2) It's an amino acid that acts as a neurotransmitter. It basically just makes your neurons fire off less, which makes you a lot calmer!

My cat was lying next to me while I was playing this part and I apologized to her before killing Mewo. Then I realized I could've just stabbed myself to leave and felt like a shit person.

I think the worst thing about this room is how it makes stabbing yourself the only solution. Most people I've seen playing that noticed the choice went for Stab without second thought.
The game puts you in the mindset of a suicidal person and it pushes you to do it, and not only that, but it makes you glad you did it. Because you didn't harm Mewo. This is a truly horrifying and accurate representation of this thought process.
an interesting interpretation to consider is, what does mewo represent in this scene?
being forced, unwilling to cut the cat open. giving you the choice to kill yourself without cutting the cat, but also making you kill yourself after the cat is dead as the only way to escape the room.
what if the cat represented the repressed truth Sunny is trying to hide?
I didnt even know you could stab yourself so what I did was go through higher and higher levels of stress while cutting mewo
It's the guilt people feel when they realized that they could've just stabbed themselves to get out of the situation.
Probably similar to Sunny's guilt, knowing that Mari could've lived, _only if he were a little better..._
It really does make suicide feel like the easy way out, all you need to do is just stab. That's it, _then you're free._

for all the discussion this game gets, i have never seen anybody address the butler. this is the only scene he shows up in, but he also appears in a few drawings in the notebook and i guess he is related to mewo in some way, i wonder if he's supposed to represent something.

Everything around mewo is still mystery. Is he still alive? is mewo we saw IRL is really mewo or just hallucination? if he's already dead then what's the cause? Why omori try to dissect mewo? Why mewo is bad bad kitty? What does the butler means? Not a single hint!
@@Bos_Meong ikr this is a mystery but i feel like... mewo is dead in real life and sunny projects it in white space or smth to repress the fact that it’s gone, and since in black space you have to like face your fears... it gives me the hint that sunny did something to mewo... but it’s just a theory lol
@@mio-nw1up i read a theory somewhere that mewo probably just ran away and eventually died from an accident. this black space room is just. something to represent whatever i guess (i forgot), but it was a really good explanation

this room made me feel terrible...the fact that it repeatedly asks you if you want to cut open mewo, even after you hesitantly say yes the first time, then goes on to describe how mewo is defenseless and afraid and trying to escape... its so awful. then you're met with the realization that you DIDNT have to cut open mewo.
i saved before this room so i ended up reentering and getting the key without killing mewo because i felt bad... if it was undertale the butler wouldve had something to say about that but. oh well
i just realized killing mewo in here is like killing toriel (for the first time) in undertale. you do it bc you “have to”, then you realize you didn’t have to and feel guilty. except in undertale killing her actually works as a solution
And for the butler to say: "waiting for something to happen?" And the sudden realization you didn't need to kill mewo hits you until you check the menu to reset and suddenly realizing you only needed to stab yourself is traumatizing as hell

Here's what makes this bad for me...
As everyone seems to be aware, you don't actually NEED to kill Mewo here. In fact, you're given multiple chances to say no... But it's when you do it that gets me. Because afterwards, you can talk to the butler... And what the fuck does he say?

He says the cat's fucking line, almost mockingly, like he's hot shit.

The entire room has an insanely dark interpretation regarding the events that unfolded. So let's first consider the case where you DO discover the menu, and the fact you can stab yourself. Gruesome, but at least you don't have to stab Mewo.
What happens when you do end up neglectfully stabbing Mewo? The game STILL forces you to stab yourself to get out of the room.
The main question to ask is this one : *What does Mewo represent here, in this room?* I theorize that the cat here is a sick metaphor for the truth regarding Mari's death. The dream is telling you that suicide is the *only* option no matter whether you confess to the truth or not.
No not really I don't think of it as mocking mewo I think of it as the game being like so you killed him, now what? The only way out is..... You know
That line actually made me associate with how you have to leave white space? And I think its there mostly for that reason
In my mind, that's sort of like a serious version of the cat microwave scene in Kindergarten 2. He's saying "well, you killed the cat. What, you expected there to be something more after that? No, you just killed a cat, simple as that."
This is one of the most horrific parts of the game.
Poor Mewmo strapped down helplessly,with no obvious solution in sight.

I killed Mewo at first cause I thought it was the only way to leave the room when I did and saw that you had to stab yourself I felt so bad so I just loaded my last save which was like 30 minutes before just so I wouldn't kill Mewo. It was worth it

This was easily the scariest scene for me, this made me genuinely afraid.
I was in grief over my own cat's death while playing this. I could have never harmed Mewo. If stabbing didn't solve it, I would have just dropped the game right there.
I'm gonna be honest, took out of context, i could easily vibe to this song, especially for the bongos.
out of context it kinda sounds like a warning music in a game. Or like a panic attack in music form.

It is interesting how this scene mirrors a lot of the "choices" you have to make.
I should say for anyone seeing this that there is spoilers for the game here... so lets do this.
So what is happening exactly?
The player, thinks they have to cut open Mewo, and goes through with doing it unless they get really lucky and judging from how the place is set up you will be very unlikely to try to Stab to escape. (Harm one's self.) Even if you see the option you might come to the conclusion that you'll still have to do this.
Sunny, at the time of the incident with Mari, was put under a lot of pressure, and having high key emotions he was in a similar situation. He had to either hurt himself or push Mari away... hurt ones self or another to escape a situation that appears to have no escape... especially since there seems to be dialogue implying Mari was putting some pressure on Sunny not considering how he felt.
Later when Sunny fights Basil it is the same situations... Basil is attacking him and he can't handle the stress so you must fight back. You can't do anything because the fear is too strong. The only way out is the same...
To not play the game, to take your own life, or to attack Basil.
Option 1 was denied when you entered the room.
Option 2... well it still exist.
Option 3... is what you have to do. You can't choose because it is too high of an emotion.
Sunny/Omori are great examples of people with high/unstable emotions.
How negativity can manifest into Omori becoming a blood thirsty monster who wants you to die, your own self hate given form.
How fear or strong emotions can destroy reasoning and make someone impulsive.
And how one loses all control over their choices tricked into a single path.
As someone who has similar emotional problems, it is a huge challenge to deal with since even simple interactions can spiral out of control if you're not aware of it... and even then overcoming it takes time effort and a lot of practice otherwise your only two options end up becoming "Hurt someone else or hurt yourself."
Manic Happiness, Furious Anger, and even Miserable Sadness... or when completely Stressed Out and afraid.
People who deal with these emotions often don't have the support they need to handle these... society doesn't acknowledge it...
And so many like Sunny lock themselves up out of fear and regret.
After all going out means hurting someone else or hurting yourself when those show up...
Yet ironically going out IS the only way to fix it.
If you find yourself with high strung emotions like this, visiting a therapist or getting help is definitely useful.
Some of us can't afford it, but those who can should.
It can protect you, those you love, and prevent a mistake like Sunny made.

i absolutely love this song bcs its so unsettling and the mewo room is my favourite black space room just cause of the way it manages to toy with you and that when you're presented with the idea that you have to kill mewo, it manages to make something that you previously hated doing (stabbing yourself like in white space) the most appealing option. man i love this game it's so interesting

I had to look away this entire sequence. Just mashing A and looking away until it was over, then being forced to look back so I could leave, then becoming so horrified at what I did...I just couldn't stomach it at all, it felt just so god damn awful...and then finding out that you didn't HAVE to do it just makes it feel somehow even WORSE
I'm glad that I didn't get this room first. The fact that I was already given the key here clued me in to the fact that I just needed to leave somehow. After shuffling around for a while, I finally noticed the stab option. Close one!

When I went back into the room in my second playthrough I knew I could have escaped but still decided to stab Mewo first.
y'know i played through this with a friend and they, knowing me well, told me how to get out of this with ease via stabbing myself. seeing the dialogue in this video, i have no clue how ANYONE could say "yes" to all of that what the hell i'd cry

One theory I have is that the real Mewo was put down. Maybe she became hostile to Sunny after he pushed her and hurt him, causing the parents to send her away or put her down...

I thought I was soooooo fucking clever for getting around having to sacrifice the orange cat at the Unbread Twins' tomb, yet I didn't even think to open the fucking menu when I showed up here... you know, even though this was one of the only two time in the entire game before I attempted to try literally everything before doing what the game expected me to do (in this case, button-mashing on every single tile of the room, hoping that something, _anything,_ would let me leave).
Needless to say, I felt fucking dead inside when the game finally hinted that I was able to stab myself. We do a little self-loathing.

I cut Mewo, I felt very selfish about it. I felt horrible for not really thinking about all the possibilities, for me, it was like I put myself first in the face of a fragile life like Mewo.

I didn’t want to do it and when i opened my menu i didn’t see the stab option so i was forced to cut open mewo. It felt terrible. I didn’t want to do it. Fortunately it was just in Sunny’s mind but i doesn’t change the fact that i was still forced to do it.
(Edit) i found out that you dont have to kill Mewo. i didn’t know that back then but i still feel terrible. Its kinda weird&scary that how does this game effects me. I loved Mewo, and i killed Mewo.
