I was there for two days documenting for Island Records. May 3rd & 4th, 1998. Daniel, Emmylou and Willie were the best. The best 2 days ever. I was in awe of the experience and the creativity. So grateful to Daniel for letting me be there. Teatro Theatre was amazing and perfect for this record. Thank you.
The only celebrity I have ever wanted to meet is Willie Nelson. He seems to be someone who was totally unaffected by fame. He is a national treasure.
Nice to see some country music on your channel. I’m looking forward to seeing you in Rochester tonight. Congrats.
Love Willie. Stardust album is simply beautiful.
I did this in the 80s. Irish folk duo. We set the studio up like a club with tables and drinks. Invited the fans in. Recorded a live album in the studio
I met Dan a couple of times and watched him recording an album with Venetian Snares a few years ago, he’s an extremely warm and friendly guy, humble and down to earth. Hope our paths cross again some day. I used to work for Bono’s brother so we talked about Dublin and U2 mostly.
'' That's the way it is '' song from Red Dead Redemption 2 is truly a masterpiece. Thanx you Mr. Lanois
Daniel's work on Red Dead Redemption 2 is some of the finest work I've ever experienced. Huge props to him and the Rockstar team for making such an incredible score and soundtrack!
Interview Willie!
Love this channel Rick keep it coming
I enjoyed this whole interview.
Teatro is my favorite post- IRS tapes..Willie record. Teatro, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road by Lucinda and What I Deserve by Kelly Willis were the soundtrack for me, in Austin in the late 90’s.
Absolutely amazing🤩
Rick, I’d love to watch you talking about Darrell Scott’s “And The River is Me”.
In my opinion, it’s quite the masterpiece.
You’ll probably never read this, but I’d be glad if you did.
Cheers.
Daniel's the TRUTH!!!
The long episode was fascinating. Constant food for thought and inspiration.
Every time I saw Willie playing a guitar phrase, or solo, I always imagine the musicians he's playing with living in a constant state of fear because he seems to be so far out on the edge of a giant pocket that is pure "Willie timing"
I had a chance to talk to his drummer who said they don't listen to him and just hang on to each other to keep the time proper
@@thecollective1584 I am not surprised! He's got his own timing all the time!
Love it! God Bless! 🙏🏼
Teatro is one of my favorite albums ever
What amazes me about that record is that most of the songs on it were songs Willie wrote and probably forgot the next day he had ever written them. They are all fantastic. The sheer volume of great songs that Willie has written is mind boggling. The typical Nashville hack song writer would give his left nut to write one song as good as any of the songs on Teatro. Willie hundreds of songs that good.
a good format for short excerpts, very cool !
I just met Daniel a week ago. He is just the coolest and nicest guy.
Maestro Lanois....what a soulful man, who makes sonic art of the highest form.
I could listen to these two talk all day!
I knew Daniel from his collaboration with Neil Young mostly. This guy is a legend! And teatro is my favorite Willie Nelson album!
Q - The album is called STARDUST?
thx Captain "Long John" Sinclair.
No, the album they're discussing is called Teatro. Stardust was recorded way back in 1978, and Daniel Lanois was not involved with that.
How cool. I just love Willie's voice. Ans his guitar...what a lovely tone it has....❤
He produced the Joshua tree. What a talent
well if it took 2 years and the end result is still consistant it means the mood of the gang was also consistant, but but, i suspect someone named Daniel did the final assembly and smoothed the transitions or re-ordered the songs
Hearing this story makes me realize that I might own that wurlitzer. I bought a few pieces from him right out of that house in the mid 2000s when he was reducing his inventory. From what I understood it was a combination of stuff from his Oxnard and New Orleans equipment. Everyone compliments the sound and action of that wurly. Of course, I'm sure he had multiples.
Rick consider doing a video honoring Buskers. Theyre part of 'everything music'
I think theyre an awesome component of the global music orchestra.
Love the idea of no time signature.
@bk (below) makes a wonderful comment, in short he's (Lanois) making art. Yes, it's music, it' s commercial records but above all it's art! We really do need more of this !!!
The Van Morrison/Neil Young way!
What a lovely story!
A whole new perspective on where the songs were coming from on that album.
DL is nearly aa much a legend as Willie....
THAT'S SO F*CKING COOL I'M ABSOLUTELY F*CKING *FASCINATED* BY LIVE RECORDINGS
‘Fcuk it, we’ll do it live’
F$%kin thing sucks!! 😂
I’d love to see you interview the guys from 21 Pilots.
Teatro is one of the best sounding records you will ever hear. The better the stereo system, the better it sounds. Some records sound worse the better the system. Teatro sounds better. It was recorded live and sounds a lot like the audiophile classic "Jazz at the Pawnshop". I think the recording sounds better than Jazz at the Pawnshop. As a bonus, they music is fantastic on Teatro, unlike Jazz at the Pawnshop, which is just Dixieland Jazz played by really white people.
Willy tonight in Santa Barbara
Not a fan of Lanois. Holds himself so precious and important. Think his Dylan/Young work sounds dated.
I think Time out of Mind and Oh Mercy are absolute classics. They never get old for me.
He's a pretentious ass.
Tr🤡ll on…let’s hear your albums.

@@octagonseventynine1253There is a good story about Bob Dylan taking a swing at Lanois with his guitar during their recording of Time out of mind
