I haven't watched the video yet, but I was assuming he would say "No". And given the state of the CC as it is in everyday life, "No" might be the best answer, at least sometimes.
One has to take account not only of what the Church is for, but also, of what is good for individuals: for some people, becoming Catholic might be a very bad choice. It's a good question.

I loved Bishop Barron’s response about why Protestants are excluded from the Eucharist. I’m a convert by way of evangelicalism. I absolutely DID NOT believe that Christ was truly present in the Eucharist while I was Protestant. Indeed, someone should say to non Catholics, “I don’t want you to take something you don’t believe in.” Makes so much sense. Then, when I was in RCIA, becoming Catholic, I hungered for Christ in the Eucharist in a way I never ever did, as a Presbyterian. When, maybe 4 times a year, I had a tiny square of white bread and a micro glass of grape juice IN MEMORY of Christ’s crucifixion. The two don’t even compare.

Then why are Lutherans, Orthodox, Anglicans and as far as I know, Old Catholics, all excluded? You know, most protestant traditions with roots in the reformation times actually hold to the real presence of our Lord. Granted the "reformed" use a language that these days confuse most people, so they think He is not present, but originally I think they also had a real presense to the meaning (Anglicans consider themselves reformed, so they must agree I guess).

    • @Ryan_Zell
      @Ryan_Zell 3 роки тому

@@MortenBendiksen Orthodox are not excluded because they hold to the Real & Substantial Presence. Luthereran ministers who come into the Catholic Church as Priests (2 are in my diocese), will ascept the Real & Substantial Presence without much of a change in theology. Anglicans and Episcopalians can as well, (2 are in my diocese and one of them was in my parish).
The Reformed do believe in the Real Pressence (which is misleading) because they claim they eat and drink the flesh and blood spiritually. We do that as well, but it is also the transubstantiated bread and wine we consume. Taking it spiritually, is not "Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and Drink His blood, you have not Life in You." So they do not eat His Flesh and drink His blood.

Obviously you don't love truth rather you love tradition and your reasoning.
You love man's tradition more than God's word. "Thou shall not make any image". Catholics make all kinds of images and come up with all kinds of excuses to justify it. Why can't they worship without those images in the first place? Millions do that. Jesus is the ONLY mediator between God and man, so says the Bible. But Catholics have numerous mediators and their number is increasing almost daily. Catholics have all those anti Biblical justification for that too. And it goes on and on...... . Read your Bible and compare all denominations with the truth you see there. A normal human being wouldn't go to Catholicism without giving up his intellectual honesty, forget his love for truth and the Lord.

80% of all “Early Church Fathers” did not agree with Roman teachings, ie the RCC.
If you read Roman dogma, you’ll won’t get the truth. They cherry pick from the church fathers, essentially making them say whatever gives the Roman church power!

To be honest I think most Catholics, most especially those who listen to the Liturgy of the Word regular, which is an excellent way of understanding how the Old Testament is reflected and clarified in the New Testament, know more than they give themselves credit for.
It's kind of like showing your Mam she always knew how to use the remote!
They might be hyper aware that Protestants are Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura, and feel they could be tripped up in some cases, in others they just trust or don't argue because it would 'damage a soul' on their path to God.
However, they should have more confidence to speak with other Christian's and remember what they know...
I remember many years ago saying to my mam, 'Why are you afraid of speaking about Scripture with those who may disagree, why don't you say what you know?' - Very simply she said, 'We're not children of the Book, we're children of the Living God and the only Church He instituted In the Book, let's trust Him!"

For all who have sinned outside of Torah will also perish outside of Torah , and all who have sinned according to Torah will be judged by Torah . For it is not the hearers of Torah who are righteous before God; rather, it is the doers of Torah who will be justified. For when Gentiles, who do not have the Torah , do by nature the things of the Torah , they are a law to themselves even though they do not have the Torah . They show that the work of the Torah is written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts switching between accusing or defending them on the day when God judges the secrets of men according to my Good News through Messiah Yeshua .

Galatians 5:4 refutes that: “You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.” WLC would say that the person who repents and flings himself on the mercy of God by placing their faith in him can be saved. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Also, Romans 11:6 says, “But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.”

ayy Heloo Here are some examples of the law that the New Testament is talking about from James 2:8-11: “If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself,’ you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. For he who said, ‘Do not commit adultery,’ also said, ‘Do not murder.’ If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.” Leviticus 19:18 is referenced along with the 10 commandments (Exodus 20:13-14 and Deuteronomy 5:17-18).
Paul gives some more examples of the law in 1 Timothy 1:8-10: “Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine...”. Here we see a reference to the 10 commandments in addition to some other commandments.
Luke 18:18-20 says, “And a ruler asked him, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’”’ Jesus references the 10 commandments with regard to how one can attain eternal life. So if you keep the commandments perfectly like Jesus did you can merit eternal life. However, we know that Jesus is one only one who kept the commandments and did not sin. Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God...”
So we see that the law at a minimum and includes the 10 commandments. Since nobody has kept the law we are all condemned. However, the good news is this: “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus - "There is but one universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved." (Council of Florence)
Even if a person seams to be non-Catholic, in the end if he is saved, it is only because he has been united to the Catholic Church is a mystical and an outside the ordinary manner (such as through the baptism of desire, inculpable ignorance, the operation of the Holy Ghost leading him in the Faith to the extent which he could possibly know it and live it, etc.) This is the meaning of Bishop Barron's words, interpreted in the light of the infallible teaching of the Church, "non-catholic's can be saved".
This is known to God alone, and if we know that such a great mass of humanity are on the road to perdition, it is incumbent upon us to preach the truth without qualification. Outside the Catholic Church their is NO salvation, because outside of Jesus Christ their is no salvation. And the Church is the continuing operation of Christ's work on earth: to teach and preach the faith (see Matthew 28: 18-20), to sanctify the faithful by bringing them the fruits of Christs redemption (see John 20:23), and to govern them by the power of Christ invested in them (see Matthew 18:18).
Protestants, because of your Love of Jesus Christ you must seek the Truth, and the Catholic Church proclaims to teach the Truth. If you do not take these claims seriously, or ignore them and set them aside, then how can you truly be said to be seeking? Put the claims to the test. Read the Catechism, or listen to a Catholic apologist. You might test the claims of the Church, and do your due diligence, and find it's claims false. But on the other hand, you might find something you weren't expecting. So many people reject the Church for what they think it believes, and not for what it truly teaches.
I was a protestant for many years. I put the claims of the Catholic Church to the test. I listened to the apologists, read the fathers, studied catechism, studied the councils. I found them all in accord with Scripture. I found myself drawn by Christ into His One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

Such a person united to the Catholic Faith could be saved. Baptism by Desire is taught by the Council of Trent "Can. 4. If anyone shall say that the sacraments of the New Law are not necessary for salvation, but are superfluous, and that although all are not necessary for every individual, without them *or without the desire* for them through faith alone men obtain from God the grace of justification; let him be anathema (On the Sacraments in General, Dz. 847). And again: In these words a description of the justification of a sinner is given as being a translation from that state in which man is born a child of the first Adam to the state of grace and of the "adoption of sons" [Rom.8:15] of God through the second Adam, Jesus Christ our Savior; and this translation after the promulgation of the Gospel cannot be effected except through the laver of regeneration *or a desire for it* as it is written: "Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." I agree with just about everything the Bishop said with the exception being that denying Holy Communion to non-Catholics is not only because they don’t believe it’s the real presence of Christ. Someone who is in the RCIA program, for example, who believes wholeheartedly in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, is advised not to receive Him until he is in full communion with the Church by undergoing education in the faith, going to confession, receiving confirmation, and then being allowed to receive the Eucharist. Also, those in a state of mortal sin who believe in the Eucharist are also not to receive the Eucharist (even if they are Catholic) until they go to confession first. This is because receiving the Eucharist is a sign that we are in a state of Grace with God, without any mortal sin (which cuts us off from God) and are in full communion with the Church. Confession allows those who committed a mortal sin and thus cut off from the body of Christ, to be received back into the body of Christ officially through the Sacrament of “Reconciliation” and thus that person may now receive the Eucharist and thus, the promise of eternal life as Christ promised in the Gospel of John Chapter 6 to anyone who eats his body and drinks his blood🙏🏼

Pope Gregory IX, after he had agreed to the death penalty for heretics at the beginning of 1231, attached great importance to the fact that not the state, but a careful ecclesiastical investigation should determine who really was a persistent
Heretic was that he should be handed over to the state for execution, and for this purpose, among others, he created the papal inquisition in November 1231 that same year: an investigative authority that at the same time performed judicial duties and had to watch over the purity of the faith.

bless those who curse you and pray for those who offend you.

It is indeed authoritatively taught in _Lumen Gentium_ 16. But I think many Christians do not realize how far back this teaching goes; St. Justin Martyr in the 2nd century said: "We have been taught that Christ is the first-begotten of God, and we have declared him to be the Logos of which all mankind partakes [John 1:9]. Those, therefore, who lived according to reason [Greek, logos] were really Christians, even though they were thought to be atheists, such as, among the Greeks, Socrates, Heraclitus, and others like them." What I struggle with here, is that those who speak/spoke of the different churches were everyone BUT God and Christ... in Acts, we can see what the apostles and followers who were with Christ personally did. They came together, they broke bread together, they prayed together. That was the church.
Why is it relevant that Paul or any other apostle went on to create what we know today as the catholic church? He is yet but a man, and Jesus was quite clear about the way to him. And it did not involve all of this...

The reason why protestants cannot partake in the TRUE catholic Eucharist is because they do not believe that the bread and the wine is the body and blood of the Lord. The catholic church is the GUARDIAN of the teachings of Jesus and the apostles, the catholic church listens to the WARNING in 1 Corinthians 11:27-29 "Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body."
When you eat the bread you MUST be convinced 100% that it is the Lords body or else you will eat your own Judgement for not recognizing it as such. If you gather to eat simple bread and drink simple wine THEN DO IT IN YOUR HOMES 1 Corinthians 11:22 don't you have homes where you can eat bread and drink wine?
The Lord Jesus said it and his catholic church KEEP His doctrine John 6:48-60
    AMEN

    • @hansreuben1
      @hansreuben1 3 роки тому

I think what the verse means is that if we are unworthy, the more we shd partake the holy communion because we need help .
Notice that yes we shd not partake in an ‘unworthy manner’ , the word unworthy is here being used as an adjective to describe the manner in which we drink , like being excessive n a drunkard , which is not respectful of the ceremony!
      Note the difference .

    • @Scientist_Albert_Einstein
      @Scientist_Albert_Einstein 3 роки тому

@@hansreuben1 Watch the context, "For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body."
The bible is clear. When you eat the bread and drink the wine and you do not believe, discern, recognize, observer, discover, realize that it is the Lords body, then you eat judgement.
That is why 1 Corinthians 11:22 says that if you want to eat bread and drink wine then STAY AT HOME and eat simple bread and drink simple wine.
The Lord was clear when he spoke John 6:51 "I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”
      AMEN
The catholic church is the guardian of Jesus doctrine! We believe Jesus for he is the way, the truth, and the life and nobody goes to the father except through him!
If anybody else teaches you otherwise, DO NOT BELIEVE THEM, FOR THEY ARE NOT the way, the truth and the life.
If Jesus says that he is the bread and that the bread is his flesh, then that is the truth, for he is the truth.
If your pastor says that Jesus is the bread, but that the bread is not his flesh, then your pastor is a liar.
It is up to you, do you want to follow Jesus or your pastor? We Catholics are true Christians, we follow Jesus doctrine for he is the way, the truth, and the life!
John 6:53 "Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him."
      AMEN, AMEN, AMEN, AMEN, AMEN
That is why 1 Corinthians 11:27 gives a strong warning, if you eat the bread without discerning the Lord's body, then you eat your own judgement!
For this reason protestant pastors tell you that what you are eating is just bread and it is! The bread that protestant pastors give you is simple bread. Only the catholic church of Jesus has the authority and the command from Jesus himself to DO the last super.
If you are a protestant and you eat bread in your congregation, then you are eating simple bread and you commit NO sin at all. BUT, BUT, BUT if you are a catholic or a protestant, and you go and eat the TRUE consecrated bread without believing that it is the Lords body, then you eat your own Judgement, because that bread has been consecrated by the one and only church that Jesus founded and what they are giving you is the truth, it is the Lords body and you are disregarding it as simple bread!
For this reason, the catholic church does not give communion to protestants because the catholic church does not want you to eat your own judgement just because you have been deceived by a lying pastor!

    • @hansreuben1
      @hansreuben1 3 роки тому

You must understand from the context it did not say the unworthy cannot partake in the holy communion. I can be unworthy but I discern the bread n the wine as the body n the wine as Jesus body n blood , so surely I’m qualified to partake .
It is only when I partake in a manner which is unworthy ( behavior wise , like being rowdy , excessive drinking) then , judgement will come upon me .
Again I must stress the ‘unworthy’ manner is an adjective to describe the manner in which one partake . It is NOT the same as taking it as an unworthy person !
If one is worthy then why partake !

One problem I had is someone who can be trying to find the truth and its lets say an atheist.
If he just has the Bible as reference and he converts, then he will call himself a Christian without any denomination.
Scripture is the living word of God and we should abide by it.
Catholic churches have some doctrines that are not the Bible.
Some catholics will say, "where in the Bible does it say to only follow scripture"
But to someone who has read the Bible and tries to follow Jesus Christ, would say something along the lines of:
"Thats only if you assume that the Bible (which is the living word of God) is not enough for salvation"
The Bible shows us the Gospel and what we must do. Everything that we need is in the Bible.
This division of Christianity bothers me.
People call themselves catholics or protestant or orthodox.
Before all of that we should call ourselves Christians and trust in Jesus Christ alone.
      Stay safe my friend!

It is a great pity to see all this happened due to the political and abuse of power (Great Schism and Reformation).

All any non-Catholic need do is to pray for God to show him which of the worlds religions is the True Religion and God will be happy to show them that it is the Catholic religion. (That's all that this ex-Methodist did.) If non-Catholics do not convert it is their own fault (ordinarily). If non-Catholics do not convert ot is because they have neither sought the truth nor prayed for it.

This is not my direct response to you. I’m on phone right now, so I’ll just quote my earlier comment and just read it as a response accordingly:
Have you not considered, instead of declaring the Pope and Bishops of Vatican II and those that believe in its teachings are heretical, that perhaps what appears as contradictions could be merely because of our limited understanding - that it is rather our fault. Ex: Maybe when reconciled with more recent teachings, par. 18 rejects the idea that Protestantism is another form true Christian religion (of course it is not, it lacks the fullness of Truth we can find in the Catholic Church and it is not the one Jesus Christ established) or that they are equally pleasing to God (they are not), and nothing more (I don’t see the inconsistency here that salvation is a possibility for some/many of them); or that in par. 17, “good hope” cannot be expected because yes, it would be salvation by “extraordinary means”; in fact, it neither contradicts the teaching that one CAN be part of the “true Church of Christ” even unknowingly; or that par. 15 is more on “reason” as opposed to faith; or that par. 16 perhaps meant that man cannot BY HIS OWN find salvation (even by observance of ANY religion esp. if non-Catholic) - emphasis on the word “any” which includes the Catholic Church to support this interpretation. I would rather not condemn our Popes, Bishops and other believers as heretical, and instead believe that the Holy Spirit continues to guide and protect the Church. The more recent teachings are also more in keeping with the concepts of humility (in not condemning others outright - we’re not God after all), mercy and love that the Bible stresses on and I daresay has put primacy on, particularly with respect to love. I pose this question as an example: How about an unbaptized child in a remote place without any opportunity at all to be introduced to the Catholic Church? Is he destined to eternal damnation? Or let’s even make him an adult. Still? I choose to believe on the infinite goodness and mercifulness of God. And I choose to believe that the Holy Spirit continues to guide and protect the Church, and that the Vatican II documents and the Catechism are something we should adhere to. Tbh, this “exclusivity” (that there can never be an “implied Catholic” for lack of a better term) shows pride and arrogance.

To be a Catholic, is to take Jesus' words seriously to the HEART. We understand people are incredulous, or maybe some don't know what Faith is, although people want to see prove; we have over 10,000 saints and one the contemporaries are St. Mother Teresa, St. Padre Pio ( His body is incorruptible to this day for people to see it) or people can read about the MIRACLES, especially the Eucharistic Miracles, or this one: In 1945 USA dropped 2 Nuclear Bombs to Japan, and each city, Nagasaki and Hiroshima, there was a Catholic church in each city; with their priest inside praying the Holy Rosary, and God spared these 2 churches with all those priest, that not even the radiation affected them, this was testified by 200 scientist. Another Miracle people can read about it is the MIRACLE OF THE MULE in 1223. The evidence is so overwhelming that we as Catholics have to share and instruct the works of the Holy Spirit, and please don't take Holy communion without proper preparation, meaning without the sacraments. People cannot take the Body and Blood of Jesus unworthily, otherwise they would be taking their own judgement, 1 Corinthians 11:23-29. We have to remember that Jesus left His Church and this church gave us the Holy Bible with 73 originals books. It is not the other way around.

I was raised Roman Catholic and left when I was 18yo. At 26yo I went to an Evangelical Church and am now a born-again bible-believing Christian who has been completely transformed. I know spend my time evangelising. I come across hundreds of secular people who identify as Catholic who have no idea about the Gospel and do not believe in many orthodox Christian teachings. From my personal experience for the size of the Catholic church and all the Catholic schools around the world it does not produce believing orthodox Christians.

I agree with you Sarah. The Catholic Church can become a great church in God's eyes if they return to the New testament canon as their anchor of Truth. They started well, just like the Galatians and just as Paul had to rebuke the Galatians they have fallen into the same error.
" OH foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ has been Evidently set forth, Crucified among you?
...did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the SPIRIT, ARE you Now attempting to become perfect in the Flesh?" (Galatians 3:1-3).
The difference with the Galatians is that they fell back on the O.T. rituals that had been fulfilled in Christ.
The problem with the R.C church is that they fell forward into new practices invented by the papacy as the centuries drifted away from the New Testament Church and the earlier church fathers. Somehow the medeival popes was able to convince them that their Words were on the same par with Scripture and the Avalanche began.
But I encourage you to be faithful, fulfil the work of an evangelist and pray for our fellow catholics to return to the purity of the Gospel.

Same here. Raised Roman Catholic but God convicted me about many things regarding it. I used to be proud of the Church and it’s history but now I see it as something that could identify apart from the Gospel. Which isn’t good.
