How do you block a user on UA-cam? Walking through step by step how to remove a nasty comment and block UA-cam channels and users.
I also go thorough how I deal with bad comments on UA-cam. It's difficult. Every comment increases data for the UA-cam algorithm... and I genuinely want to thank every comment, especially if it's letting me know that this video is not for them. But spending any more time than that is a complete waste of time. As creators, and human beings, it's difficult to acknowledge that sometimes.

Excuse me sir if you block a UA-camr user that means they can't never bug you on any of your videos or lifestreams whatever video you post please answer this question when you get the chance to I really appreciate answer?
I don't thing this hide feature is perfect,
it block lot of bots or some wild kids is great
for me only blocked by two youtubers as i leave a lot of great common in both two and other channels,
one is i just say some advance things that he things is stupid and he things just wasting time for reply and see me to delete my common because for it is not a good topic, the finally result is he block me,
the other one also like that, but after 3 mouth for my Cooling-off Period of my angry,
and give her a sc as common for a suggest not for complain or dissatisfied.
she also blocked me before the 3 mouth,
i find the blocked ways is using private mode and login other account leave a common and logout to see
is she or he really block or just waiting for check the common can publish.
I thing youtube should do more fuction setting a cooling-off period as 3 mouth for the blocked user,
if the condition is youtuber evey videos common not more than 500 comments. if over than should block forever.
because lot of common smaller than 500 that youtuber may also more chance to reply the comments.
and if over 500 comment blocking again is waste more time.
and other hand also the function should check that user is that also blocked by other youtubers a lot because it may be the bot.
it may a main account to do lot of bad common
Give human as a changes for reply should be appear,
should not all blocked forever user may not the bad guys.
Now that hide as all account is so bad for wasting my time to common and angry with youtube not youtubers,
and also losing all good comment before that they block. No one can see my good comment at that channel.

I subscribed my friend. Thank you for this video. I am still boggled by the way You Tube got rid of the BLOCK USER option. That doesn't make any sense and I'm tired of people leaving nasty remarks to me. Can you please tell me how officially block people?
They really need to bring the block feature back. I took a one year break from UA-cam, planning my big comeback and woke up this morning to a horrible comment. Not really sure why people feel comfortable hiding behind their phone or computer because I bet they wouldn’t say it to my face.

There is an option to block them from your channel same drop down
It's disgusting, UA-cam needs to do a better job, what if they are predators, looking to stalk you or something? Like, this is totally unacceptable. UA-cam shouldn't even be a thing if this is the way it is. It's almost as if they're endangering us.
The "block user" has disappeared. I went to block a jackass from commenting on my comments and there was no way to block him.

Yeah, especially when it comes to people who beg for likes just to get attention, and to UTTP that claim that their content is better than someone else's (which is not) and they type things that are crimes and sins for society and world itself.

So youtube decided to change some settings between now and a year ago.
Kind of sad that youtube now only limits people from posting messages while still able to see your channel and watch your content.
In the past you could block accounts from even watching your content. Which sometimes is preferred.
Too true - I sometimes wonder if the hide channel does other things like keep your videos away from those users, without it overtly saying, but guess we'll not know. Maybe I should test this...

I suppose there’s a big difference between constructive criticism v abusive content. I wouldn’t block constructive criticism as everyone has a right to an honest opinion but I wouldn’t put up with abusive comments which is a whole different matter.
Unfortunately, most present day social media users haven't quite developed the ability to give constructive criticisms WITHOUT being disrespectful or abusive in their wording. So in the meantime "BLOCK" Party, it is!

Something unexpected happened when I attempted to use this 'blocking' procedure: when I clicked on the three vertical dots, corresponding to the offender's handle, only the 'report' option was available. All of the others, including 'block user' were not present. Did UA-cam change their interface since you posted this? (I'll add the additional detail that this occurred on the page of a third party, not on my page or on the offender's page. Should that make a difference? ...Is there something that a user could adjust in the settings, that would make the 'block user' option available once again?)

I've only seen it bring up "report" as the only option if the video is on someone else's channel.
I don't know if this helps but there is a way to block users on your Google account - not sure if that would stop replies on other peoples videos. The help article is here: support.google.com/accounts/answer/6388749

Same here. You used to be able to go to the users channel, click on "About", and then hit the option "Block User". That was a simple & direct way to deal with haters & abuse. It's now been removed by YT. So I came here to learn how to block a user in 2023. Followed all instructions, but it only offered the hide user from channel option. There was no block available even on my phone. Perhaps hiding this user will be enough? After all, anyone can create a new account if they're determined to spread hate all over YT. I wonder why YT removed the simple feature that was in place for years? I think I've only used it a handful of times since 2008, but it was necessary. What you can do is simply go to the nasty comments and hit hide user from channel next to the dots by their comment.
I have the same problem - it will only let me hide user and can I see this nasty person on other channels I go to and they can see my comments in live streams. So I will probably have to leave a couple of channels I like that helped me. It's not right YT seem to let nasties on and boot off good people or allow good people to be subjected to this now. YT really gone down recently IMO sadly. @@steelyman08
I like that the example of a rude and hurtful commenter was named "Damaged Commenter" because you don't go around abusing people unless someone hurt you.
@kevin weeks some people have a good reason to feel hurt. Like, maybe the person said something bigoted but they didn't know it was bad due to their up bringing. Still, when we comment, we have to try and see things in a better light rather than assuming it was an attack and that they are fully aware of it being hurtful. A lot of people will instead lash out at anything that feels like a threat. But I've learned that if we all remember not everyone grew up the same way and everybody learns at their own pace, you'll often find that if you simply ask for clarification and talk to them gently in a way that isn't abusive or a call out, you can reach understanding.
@@shadowdemonaer I think there's definitely moments of misunderstanding, too. Like the tone or context just doesn't translate that well over text, and people take it the wrong way. It's definitely interesting at times. Chats are like a big social experiment sometimes.
It's probably just a fake comment, like an example. Or maybe it is someone giving him rude feedback. But why say Dad?
Not only people who just say something that describes things they don't like, but there are UTTP who keep claiming that their content is better than someone else's, which is not, and they literally comment things they love to do that are sinful and to automatically answer our question why because they think they claimed their content is better. Those are also example of comments that should be either blocked by UA-camrs or be banned from UA-cam completely.
You are absolutely right. I too have been going down the comment section of someone elses channel. Multiple people kept going in against me because they wanted to force their opinion on me. But it just has no use and my time can find better value. I'm just so into justice. I can't have it when something isn't justified.

Thank you Neil for your advice. Can you tell us, what happens when you hide a user from your channel? Is the user still able to access your channel and comment on it, but his comment is not visible to others? Will the user be aware that you have taken action on him?
Hi thanks for the kind question.
When you hide a user, the user can still see your channel if they search for it.
They can still comment, but neither you nor anyone else ever sees the comment. If they return to the comments section, they won't be able to find it either.
So they might have a hunch that it has been disappeared, if they go looking for it.. but it might equally have been hidden by youtube if it was too offensive.
As they are blocked you wont see anything from them ever in the comments section.

You are so right. When you reply to a bad comment, they come back even nastier. I did that and the commenter blamed me for not being civil when someone disagrees with me. Hmm, I think he needed to read his own comment and then he wouldn’t have to ask why he got the reaction he got. But, rather then give him anymore of my time, I had to hide him because I couldn’t find a “block” option. I searched and couldn’t find it.

I agree with you. Can you please tell me WHY You Tube got rid of its Block feature? This is bothering me as I have to block certain people for hateful remarks. I thought I was the only one that noticed that but thank you for bringing this up. You have a really valid point. It was much easier to have a block option.

Just like how all my efforts to combat the situation have been in absolute vain lately. I wish that I had people who'd listen and be there, yet I'm forced to go it alone.
I'm 76 and a bit of an old....grump. So when I started doing comments I was sometimes quite critical or corrective. As time passed I suddenly realized my comments were either removed or hidden so I could see them but nobody else could. Anyway, today when commenting I do try to be very kind and complimentary or just keep it to myself. Great video by-the-way.

Here are some suggestions that might help.
- Go into this link in desktop:
studio.youtube.com
on the left hand side click on settings
then on the left hand side of that box go to 'community'
Are you in 'hidden users' if so, undelete it by clicking on the cross
- or Contact UA-cam support - a tweet to them @TeamUA-cam
- or can you follow the same steps to block: does it now offer 'show user'? - that's what this support article seems to suggest

I got a comment from someone laughing at me for having health problems and being unable to work. They thought since I can watch a UA-cam video & post a comment about homeless people. It means I should be able to work full-time.

I'm sure their attitude will do a 180 once they get injured in a crash or develop health issues.

Is there a way to block a user once and for all? Not just from my channel but from any channels and any videos so they can't keep harassing you wherever you go? All information I can find are only about blocking user from one's own channel...

Is hidden the same as block is what i want to know although it stops you seeing the comments on the other side would it stop the user from being able to send? I feel like when the word hidden used will never know for sure for them would it still say message sent or message fails to send?
I'm not sure what it fully means - as if they are hidden from us, does youtube stop serving our videos to them...
As for the comments, I've tested this and the message looks like it has sent for the sender. There's no error message, or message to say their comments will be hidden. So they think it's gone through okay and they will not appear on your channel.

Hi, I wish I could've made this work. I couldn't find a way to block someone anywhere. Have they revoked that feature?
You will have to update this information. We are in 2024, and UA-cam does not use the standards that you use. For example, UA-cam does not allow content creators to block anyone. You can hide them from your channel, but you can’t block them. If you can, please make another video showing such. I just followed your directions to discover how I could block a user, and the block option is not available to me.
Why did YT remove the block option, though? It's such a pain..
Hey Neil, thank for the video! Personally I've been looking everywhere on the Internet for a way to hide comments from specific users overall. What I mean by that is that I'd like to not see their comments on the entire website, but this "hide user from channel" option only allows you to hide their comments from *your* channel. I don't understand how that isn't a thing already. I'm sure UA-cam won't add it because they don't like listening to people's requests, but if there was an extension for this I'd be all over it.

I've had so many comments on this video explaining how they've been trolled in the comments on other people's videos and can't do anything to block those replies to their comments.
All we can do is report the comment, and that doesn't seem appropriate in many cases.

@@neilmossey I just got whatever the equivalent of "yelled at" on UA-cam is.. I have absolutely zero idea what I may have said. I don't drink, smoke or swear, so a) I would remember a nasty comment because I don't make them, or b) I used a word that contained something nasty. If I've understood correctly, the comment could be blocked automatically if the channel has a list of words it bans - these words could be anything
And UA-cam hides comments if the AI thinks they should be held for review

So when I hide somebody from my comments do other viewers see the persons comment because thats what im mainly worried about. Or am I the only person that doesnt see it. friends on Face book years ago. He didn't like some post i put on my FB page- he called it conspiracy or whatever. I told him it was my page i could post whatever i wanted to on my own page. he then proceeded to post every nasty disgusting thing he could think of to call me. I blocked him- forward 8 years and now he is leaving comments on my you tube page- had to do a search and found your video on how to block people on you tube. I can't understand what pleasure people get from leaving uncalled for nasty comments on peoples pages. I sure am glad you can block them. have a great day!

Can you see comments from blocked users? I know the people who view your videos are unable to see comments from the blocked user, but can YOU, the channel owner, see comments made by blocked users. Blocked users can see their own comments on a channel they have been blocked on, so the comment resides somewhere on youtube server. Just curious is the owner of the channel can see the comments of blocked users.

When the creator blocks a user, that comment and all past and future comments are disappeared. New comments cannot be seen by the channel creator.
Once the commenter has left the comment, noone can see that comment and if you return to that video, the commenter won't be able to find it either.
All subsequent comments go the same way.

How do you block a user from anywhere I comment? I've already got her blocked from my main channel, but I don't know how to block her from commenting to me personally in another channel. I know they can comment in this person's channel, but is there some way I can block them so I never see what they write to me again? I just want her out of my life - at least so that I don't have to see what she's writing to me anywhere ever again. Hopefully you or someone else can help me do this. It seems UA-cam makes privacy harder by the minute.
So sorry to hear you're dealing with this, and thanks for the kind question. It's too true, it seems harder now. If it were me I'd do 4 things:
Report them for harassment within your channel dashboard if possible. Might not be able to if hidden.
Go to their channel and report them from there - 3 dots on their mobile home page - choose harassment.
And go to every comment and report for harassment.
Hopefully the AI will spot that it is true.
The 4th way is to message youtube support for advice - they have a twitter feed.

I've seen unwanted comments not on my videos. I want to block those people or at least block the comments.
If you've heard of Disqus, I want to be able to do it like they do.
I heard about this from a channel that I used to watch and comment on. The guy said that you can block someone and they won't know they are blocked. They will just be screaming into the void and no one will hear them. That's when I realized I had been blocked. I'm sure I never said anything bad but my comments no longer got any likes or responses.
Sorry to hear this. If you have been hidden, I don't think you'd be able to see the comment after you've left it - if you go back into the comments section I think they go... so you'd only realise if you went hunting for your comments.
You can also block certain words in comments, so if you've used a word that they've chosen to block, that would cause a comment to disappear even if its a nice one... hope this helps and thanks for the comment!
Same thing i can see the comments myself but when i go on my alt account and check the comment isn’t there
I tested it and the new version of delete comment and hide channel are really painful. I deleted one of my alt’s messages went on that alt and i could still see my comment.
Conclusion: only the person who commented can see the comment while it is hidden for the rest of the world. So yes you’re basically screaming in an empty void

I usually comment on my favorite news channel every day, there is this group of 3 users who are always picking on me and commenting rude things on my comments, calling me names, simply because they do not share my political thoughts. I wish there was a way to prevent those users from commenting on my comment.
First I would report their comments but they keep coming back with new fake profiles. 😒
Really sorry to hear this - it's a real problem that we can't stop bad replies other than reporting. Who knows, it might even be 1 user? If it were me, I'd keep reporting because it is a pain setting up new profiles every time. Good luck

How do you see who subscribed to your channel and how can you block them from seeing you, following you and seeing your online activity ( even if they don't post)

how do you restrict which countries can view your content? Can you select to show via region?
Thanks for the great question JlynASMR... I think Geo-blocking or Geo-fencing is only available to UA-cam partners who have access to the UA-cam Studio Content Manager (which I've never heard of).
It's covered in this article here... but I think for regular creators like us, it's not possible...

Unfortunately, you can't block anyone anymore. The "block user" option no longer exists.
I think this girl has hidden me from comments but i think she still reads my comments.
Are hidden comments stored forever or do they go away after 60 days? Thanks
Hi, thanks for the kind question.
Sometimes the creator can choose 'hidden words' so if the word(s) appear in the comment the comment is automatically hidden, so they might not all be manually removed, if that helps.
If the user account is hidden from channel, she wont be able to see any of the comments.
If each comment is manually hidden, they are disappeared immediately - which is annoying if a comment is hidden accidentally, there's no way to retrieve it - but obviously, the comment would be seen to be manually hidden.
Some comments are put into 'hold for review' automatically by youtube and the creator doesn't even know this has happened - the creator would have to go into 'held for review' to see them - and those are only held for 60 days.

"block user" feature has been removed. It's not there anymore.
when I try to paste the URL of the user into that box nothing happens, which is odd. It won't allow me to paste anything, nothing happens.

Hi, has this block feature been removed? I have blocked many but now it seems to have vanished, the option just is not there for me. I do not mean only on your videos, I mean in general if you go to their profile and wish to block a user. I just cannot find it anymore

On mobile, for me, it seems to have changed to "Hide user from channel" on their channel page.
I'd hope that all the people you've blocked in the past are all still there in settings under "Hidden users" in the Community tab.
For these, UA-cam says "Comments and live chat messages from these users won't show up. It may take several days to remove existing comments and live chat messages. These users will not be able to create clips of your videos and live streams."
I'm checking if when you remove a comment it automatically send them to the "Hidden Users"
I wonder if it's still being rolled out at the moment because on some of the comments, when you click the three dots it offers "Hide User from channel" as an option right at the bottom...

@@neilmossey Hi thanks for the detailed response, I do not know why they change things, I think personally sometimes they are so bored with everything running fine that they find things to do even though they do not need doing lol. I like to also block people in general comments on any persons videos I view and just from talking to me altogether in anyway whether reply to something I have said or directly to me but I think that is gone and the option as you say hide user from channel is now it. Perhaps that is not just from your channel in the way of your uploaded videos comments section but it is a way to block anybody altogether from having any correspondence with you.
Maybe I am getting old and grumpy, I just like things to stay as they were lol

Thanks for the good youtube about this subject, it is now 9 months ago.. and already I cannot find the option to block an unknown user to my private youtube channel that suddenly follows me (I dont know if they have good intentions, or are hackers or scammers collecting information about me, or criminals who want to hurt my child whatever. I want to block them from my channel, but the option is ? where now. I tried on mobile, I tried on desktop, in the studio and I cannot seem to be able to do anything but report them or make them invisible, so I cannot see their comments, this is so weird. If you have a solution please make an update video. Thanks. :)

UA-cam changed the wording to 'hide user from channel' but I understand that it unsubscribes them, and means all their comments instantly disappear the moment they post them, so nobody sees them. Can I ask is this what you want it to do? Hope this helps and sorry this isn't ideal
I just had a similar situation. I don't have any videos yet, but I received a response to one of my comments on another video, which clearly did not violate any UA-cam guidelines or those of the channel owner, my comment, I mean, that said, "(My name) I'm coming for you." Well first I clicked it to report it. It's too bad you have to choose between "bullying" and "harassing," because either one of those could sum it up. I wanted to be able to answer "threatening," but that's just not among the dumb limited choices. I clicked on "harassing" and specified, "This person is harassing me." When I clicked on the video later on in my watch history, the response was still there so I just deleted my comment which automatically deletes the response, too. But most likely it was an empty threat anyway, right? I have never told a single soul where I live or given out my email address to anyone. But that doesn't make it okay and I hope UA-cam at least read or will read the response. And can't UA-cam have your back more and contact the authorities if they deem it to be necessary? I don't want to have to go through all that myself just because someone else thinks it's okay or funny to post responses like that!
I did photograph my comment and the response before deleting them. I better learn how to block another user from responding to my comments or posting comments on my videos when I have some just in case this person or anyone else does this again!
Can I ask after blocking can still they watch our video?

Thanks for the kind question - wow that is a really good question. I have no idea. That would be something I would ask UA-cam support, who I've found to be extremely helpful. My gut instinct would be that it does because it overrides the membership, and would be worth doing anyway if they are causing problems for you.
Would love to know what does happen, because if people are using memberships to get to you, I'd hope the hide would offer the protection it should.

I did try hiding the user but had no luck? perhaps its something I have missed here in your instructions? I did report though this was like a couple of days ago. I still would like to block the abusive user. I wish to block the user from my channel. I just use for watching movies and sometimes make comments too.
So sorry to hear this - thanks for the kind question. If the user is in your 'hide user from channel, no new comments should be able to appear from them and you won't see any new comments from them. I wonder if these are old messages which are cached, which sometimes happens in UA-cam so they are actually removed but it's not showing yet on your channel for you.
If the 'hide user' went through okay, it might be worth checking your own videos to see if they are in fact gone, by not logging in or checking on another browser or from another account - if these are comments on your own videos. If they are on someone else's videos, UA-cam is sadly less helpful. Hope this helps though.

Thanks Neil. All of my commenters are lovely, genuine people...except for one. With every video, he comes up with some ridiculous challenge in an attempt to show me up....after I have spent many many hours recording and editing. As you said, he creates nothing other than ill-will. Is this an example of a Troll? I took your advice and Hid the User from my channel. I feel better already!

Apart from clicking on Report - one way might be to contact UA-cam support - maybe a tweet to @teamyoutube
Another way, though they tend not to reply directly is to send it as a feedback, which offers to screenshot your feedback.
You could send a feedback every time it happens:
Click on your avatar in the top right hand corner and scroll down to "send feedback" on desktop and "help and feedback" on mobile.

Does "hidden" comment actually blocks him from commenting on my video or he can still comment but I will not see it, pls?
Thanks for the kind question. 'Hidden' allows him to type the comment and it looks as if it sends as normal, but you and nobody else will get to see the comments ever again.

I think they can... the only upside is that they would have to work out that they are hidden by coming back to look for their comments.
They have no indication they are hidden when they write comments.

youtube seriously needs a actual block button for people you dont want on your channel. simply hiding them isnt going to cut it in the end.

That can cause a lot of problems in itself. Like if a channel owner is too finnicky, or bigoted, or ignorant or a hundred other IFs...can create a ton of ill will.

Just came across your channel, I have had 2 online trolls, that have to leave negative nasty comments, not often but they are out there definitely, nothing better to do, they are a waste of time and energy, thanks for sharing. So what if you get comments on your comments on other channels? People harass people that way as well but I see no way to block them. Most sites let you do that.

Is there a way to block channels all together? Getting so fed up with chefskitchen that I wanna quit UA-cam as a whole. There are loads of channels I don't want to take a part of, drugs, violence, propaganda, crime in general and plain out murder. UA-cam is a scary cesspool and their AI is dogshit. Is there anyway for me to block and not just"don't want to see" we all know that shit ain't working.

Same here - the subscribed button has a bell notification if you click on the subscribe button, and select 'all' but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Hi Elaine thanks for the kind question, it seems not unfortunately, it looks like all we can do now is use the "report" button but this doesn't seem to be very good. Maybe we should click the "send feedback" link in the main youtube menu to let UA-cam know. Sorry I can't be of more help and thanks again.

I have a question about political videos. I am subscribed to a channel that posts videos expressing politics I disagree with. Now when I get in debates with other commenters on that channel the debates do get heated but nothing to report to UA-cam about. At least I've never received a notice from UA-cam I did something naughty. Now lately when I get into a debate I get to post about 5 or so rebuttals, but after that my replys won't show up using guest mode in Chrome even though the replies appear on Firefox where I'm signed in. When I don't see them in guest mode Chrome I assume the reply didn't make it on to the network.
Doesn't matter how polite the reply is it still can't be viewed in guest Chrome.
Anyone know the how my replys get limited in number?

Great question thanks. There could be a few things happening
The channel owner could be manually removing comments or there could be a blanket key word block on their channel.
This automatically hides comments that include the words they've set. Do you think it might be either of these things?
The third way, which seems unlikely is that other people (maybe those who disagree??) may have maliciously hit the report button and they've been quarantined.
Finally the UA-cam algorithm itself sometimes steps in and moves comments to "held for review " without the creator even knowing until they look in that tab on their dashboard.
It's happened to me for some comments left which were completely safe and innocuous.

@@neilmossey Thank you for your quick response! The channel posts at least 3 videos a day with a LOT of comments. It's hard to believe they have someone tracking all those comments. The jargon I use is pretty typical given the subject matter. So it's difficult to think they are censoring out particular words, because they'd be nailing everyone.
The extensive number of replys back and forth would be to their advantage because it would give an illusion of the video being very popular when in fact it's the just the same people replying over and over. Meaning it would be a form of "churning" albeit an innocent one. I wonder if UA-cam was stopping my comments to curtail churning?
